Honestly of all the issues, PB isnt one of them It’s actually relatively well designed as it does damage over a long period of time (7 seconds) and doesnt stack damage the way it used to. This means that if you cast 3 PBs on a super clumped group, two of those are a waste of energy. Realistically, the only true nitpick that I have is that when it is cast it can be difficult to detect which unit PB has been cast on directly if you want to move or land them. This is exacerbated by fungal growth (which frankly is a bigger issue IMO - that is a spell that is poorly designed) because of the similar colouration of the spell.
Honestly if the viper had one problem, it would be Consume. This effectively makes it near impossible to have vipers without energy, the same way ghosts, infestors and templar can run out of energy.
The spuds have claimed that Terran players land their Vikings to get out of PB “frequently”. That means they should have NO TROUBLE pointing to a match where this is the case… because frequently indicates that it happens most of the time that Parasitic Bomb is in play… So let’s see it, guys.
Nope. I’m not. I’m suggesting that Zerg are overtuned… and that Parasitic Bomb is one ability that could stand to be nerfed. I’ve demonstrated how it can destroy a Viking army… and you’ve as much admitted that the best way to deal with PB is to take the Viking out of the air… making it a ground unit. LOL
Im not so sure - frankly Zerg is still very strong. IMO most of that is related to economy - specifically how easy it is for them to defend early game and get that crazy economy and production - and map size. Larger maps inherently favour Zerg. The question is how do you tone it down without making them underpowered? Arguably the queen is the linchpin, since it isnt uncommon for zerg players to use queens and minimal numbers of units, which means more in the way of drones and therefore more econ.
The colorations are intentional. Also, you’re now walking back your assertion that “landing the affected Viking” is the best solution…
Landing the Vikings means adding them to the ground army and subtracting them from the air army, which means you’re putting your air army at a disadvantage.
Staying in the air means you either have to struggle to find which of your Vikings is affected and fly it out of combat… which, in the middle of a fight is harder than you’re suggesting it is, even with 500 APM of a top GM.
If there are THREE PBs, they are spread out, because no competent player is going to stack PBs, but the BENEFIT of stacking them is that now you have a clump of Vikings and you have to move THREE of them out of the clump… OR you’re forced to land ALL of your Vikings, meaning Zerg gets AIR SUPERIORITY.
So, what you’re basically saying is… Parasitic Bomb is overtuned.
Okay, I’m NOT going to argue this, because a lot of this is 100% right on. It is kind of baked into Zerg macro mechanics… which is where Zerg has a huge advantage over Terran and Protoss.
The Queen mechanics are something to consider, but Queens aren’t really that big of a factor in the late game. Vipers (and Infestors and Corruptors) are, however.
I don’t think there’s a serious balance issue for Zerg early and mid game. I think Zerg probably needs more flexibility in the early game. They are forced to play defensive, unless they are going for some kind of all-in cheese.
Mid game, Zerg has a lot of flexibility, with a lot of Roach/Hydra timing attacks, Mutalisk harass needs a buff, but Infestors come out pretty early, and they give a lot of flexibility for defense. Zerg’s late game is ridiculously overtuned. It’s painful watching TvZ and PvZ, because it’s always a slow grind of Brood Lords and Hydra Abducts… until they climax in a big onesided Neural Parasite smash, then the T or P GG’s out.
