Balance Update ideas

Hello, I thought about a lot of small changes that could be great for the game. Please don’t consider I want to see all of them into the game. I just want your opinion about it. If you find something good, or not, and why.

I know how this forum is but please try to be constructive and not only think at how your own race should get freewin vs the others.

  1. Zerg

I don’t think Zerg is in a good spot atm. I propose changes to help them defend their bases and also increases late game units efficiency while nerfing what Zergs are spamming because Zerg tech is really imbalanced.

  • Baneling :

-Weapon damage changed from 16 (+19 vs light) to 18 (+17 vs light).

  • Lurker :

-Lurker burrow time increased from 2 to 2.5 seconds
-Adaptive Talons : Reduces Lurker burrow time from 2.5 to 1.25 seconds (was 0.7 seconds)

  • Viper :

-Now requires a Spire (no longer requires a Hive)
-Abduct : is now a Spire upgrade which requires a Hive. Cost : 100 minerals / 100 gas (59 seconds)

  • Ultralisk :

-Range increased from 1 to 2
-Model size reduced by 10%

  • Broodlord :

-Speed upgrade added for the Greater Spire : Increase Broodlord’s speed from 1.9 to 2.62 (same as overseer without speed or a carrier) : Cost 150/150 (57 seconds)

  • Hydralisk :

-Grooved Spine : Increases the attack range of Hydralisks by +2 (was +1).

  • Infestor :

-Microbial Shroud reworked : The shroud now gives a buff to any ground unit that crosses the shroud. It persists when the unit is outside the shroud. All damage taken are reduced by 50%. The buff lasts 8 seconds. There is also a 20 seconds cooldown before the same unit can get the buff again. The shroud lasts 11 seconds (no change). Cost increased from 75 to 100 energy.

  • Greater Spire is now morphed from the Drone instead of the Spire. Greater Spire also have Flyer Attack and Flyer Carapace upgrades

  • Creep tumor :

-Creep tumor can now be canceled again

  • Hatchery : New Upgrade : Increase Hatchery, Lair and Hive base armor from 1 to 3. Increase Regeneration for all building from 0.38 hps to 1.5 hps. Requires a Hive. Cost 200/200 (67 seconds)

  • Spine Crawler :

-Cost reduced from 100 to 75
-Root duration reduced from 9 to 4 seconds
(Spore and Spine are now the same)

  • Nydus Network :

-Nydus Network and Nydus Worm initial unload delay decreased from 0.36 to 0.18.
-Nydus Network and Nydus Worm load period decreased from 0.18 to 0.09.
-Nydus Network and Nydus Worm unload period decreased from 0.36 to 0.18.
(back to before nerf for the loading/unloading)

  1. Terran

I have very few ideas for terran. Because I think Terran is the strongest race if you are skilled enough, and I don’t think it would be good to lower the terran skillcap. However I agree that mech may need a rework or a buff to make it viable more often yet I have no idea how. Bio looks fine.

  • Medivac :

-Moved the Rapid Re-Ignition System upgrade from the Fusion Core to the Starport Tech Lab .
-Cost decreased from 100/100 to 75/75
-Research time decreased from 57 to 42 seconds

  • Bunker :

-Is no longer upgraded by Neosteel armor upgrade. Instead, when a bunker is placed within a 15 range around a Command Center, an Orbital or a Planetary Fortress, it gets the buff previously given by Neosteel armor (+2 cargo space and +2 armor).

  • Tank :

-When a tank is within a 15 range around a Command Center, an Orbital or a Planetary Fortress, siege and unsiege duration are decreased by 50%.

  • Raven :

-Speed increased from 4.13 to 4.8

  • Banshee :

-Cloak upgrade

  1. Protoss
  • Battery Overcharge

-Battery overcharge becomes Battery Recharge : Recharge a target Shield Battery near a Nexus, recharging its energy at a 1:1 ratio. Battery Recharge recharges 10 points of energy per second. It can be canceled and it has no cooldown. While a battery is recharging, it cannot heal shields.

  • Carrier :

-Range decreased from 8 to 7
-Interceptor range decreased from 2 to 1

  • Void Ray :

-Void Ray build time increased from 37 to 40 seconds (it was 43s before buff)
-Movement speed decreased from 3.85 to 3.65 (it was 3.5 before buff).

  • Stalker :

-Blink cooldown reduced from 7 to 6 seconds

  • Disruptor :

-Purification Nova now lasts 3.5 seconds (was 2.1)
-Purification Nova can now be manually detonated after 1.5 seconds
-Purification Nova movement speed decreased from 5.95 to 4.7.

  • Observer :

-Gravitic booster upgrade no longer exists.
-Observer speed and acceleration increased by 50% (= upgraded by default)
-Observer is no longer permanently cloaked. Instead, Observer starts with 100/100 energy, use 25 energy to cloak and then it consumes 1.26 energy per seconds to stay cloaked (like ghost or banshee)

  • High Templar :

-Psionic Storm damage over time decreased from 80 to 50.
-When a unit is affected by Psionic storm, it receives 20% more damage from all the other sources.

  • Nexus :

-Strategic Recall : You can now recall a maximum of 5 units (however, Mass Recall of the mothership stay the same)

  • Dark Templar :

-Dark Templar now starts with 100/100 energy and their cloaking ability works like banshee or ghost

  • Mothership :

-Cost decreased from 400/400 to 325/325
-Supply reduced from 8 to 6

-Cloaking Field is no longer permanent and now works like ghost or banshee cloaking, consuming Energy.

-New ability : Evade : Activating Evade grants the mothership a boost of speed and acceleration of 100% for 2.5 seconds. No energy cost. Cooldown 30 seconds.

Another overnerf for protoss buff for other not even test how it gonna work just simple observer cloack nerf means no too scouting mother ship itself not worth to be made he was usless

What a bunch of rubbish. Your post translates best as:

“Boohoohoo, every protoss unit gets nerfed, protoss as a whole gets nerfed into the ground, and every zerg and terran unit gets buffed. " Go take a hike. Nobody with a true passion for the game and legit intentions is interested in this sort of 'balance updates.”

Edit: after reading it I went to the profile and wooptiedoo guess what: we have ourself a terran and zergplayer stuck in diamond, who even never played protoss but wants to ‘balance’ it.

Absolutely not. It means that you can’t just send an observer and have permanent free vision. You have to manage it carefully. It’s harder yes, but it’s the same for the other races.

Furthermore the 50% speed boost by default would greatly help protoss to defend vs cloaked or burrowed units.

For a good player, this change is a huge buff to the observer, but maybe you are not one of them.

Meh dude you show your self by upper post last sentence about protoss get free win against other and yes protoss player more skillful and nothing gets free

Where do I say something about Protoss get freewin?

The changes I suggest on Protoss aim to make the race a little bit harder to play, with more APM and ressources management.

The nerf of carrier and void ray are just because it’s stupid A-moving unit. Battery overcharge rework because it’s vastly OP (but toss need something to have a good defense so I thought about this Battery Recharge).

And Stalkers got a huge buff.

I wish Ghost received same “buff” as high templar did.

I think pretty much all of these are bad. Also I think in general balance patches should be one small change per race not 12 huge changes at once. They also should be focused on what we see at the highest levels of play (ie tournaments) not what we see on the ladder.

Protoss
Charge does 2+ damage and scales +1 with each attack upgrade. Otherwise the race is basically fine.

Terran
Could give +20 HP to cyclones in the mid game via an upgrade.
I’d increase stim research time from 100 to 110. Was formerly 120 and decreased to 100 in a patch about a year ago. 100 right now makes 3 rax a free win vs Stargate openers in PVT. Stargate is playable in PVT even against a 3rax but at the highest levels it’s a free win for the terran because it’s very very hard for the toss to transition out of Stargate by 430 to hold it. Many tourney casters have acknowledged this issue
Otherwise the race is fine.

Zerg
Give ultra colossus style pathing where they can walk over units both enemy and friendly. A zergling shouldnt be able to stop an ultralisk from walking where it wants neither should an enemy marine. It’d also help ultras run away because right now they all die in retreat due to bad pathing and sim cities.

I’d rather see a massive OP buff on stalker or oracle or sentry than this.

Chargelots are the most stupid A-moving units in the game. They are already strong because they are so easy to play with. Never buff them.

Ah you not know how counter that mine maradure and ghost also old zealot made damage in impact

I can show you ESL replays on this issue. Or you can see GSL code with dream vs creator from just this weekend. All 3 games dream went 3 rax and creator opened SG in 2 if them and got blown out of the water. The last game was absolutely pathetic when creator went phoenix. Basically vs a marine heavy 3rax that hits on time (should hit at 430 to 440 at latest), the SG and first unit is wasted. If you open Stargate you can first confirm a 3 rax at 330 assuming you chrono the first unit and sent it right over. Then you have 1 min to get 3 gates and have enough units to hold it and it’s hard. If you open phoenix is even worse. creator opened phoenix in game 5 and it was a joke vs the 3 rax. You basically need to have opened oracle and then hope you land stasis traps as well and be very very good with forcefields. Batteries are good but again a lot of 3 rax players scan the 3rd and if they see batteries go for the natural. I think a small nerf to 110 seconds is good to keep builds viable. If you want to see less blink stalker play in PVT, this is a change in that direction because the fear of 3 rax matching up vs Stargate is one of the reasons at the highest levels you see a lot of blink stalker play.

Just if watch King cobra it somehow work

Op is an perfect example of people who go set whatever options they can in which direction they can. Just because they think it makes them feel calm abit. To behonest i dont even want to know whats inside their mind.

Only way to stop them making chaos is just isolate them into their own sandbox where they cant do any harm.

First of all, you never played protoss on ladder so you pretty much have not a single clue what playing protoss feels like. You merley have a faulty ignorant opinion of it. Also stop trolling because it’s kind of a pathetic behaviour.

In your ‘balance patch’ you nerfed:

  • voidrays
  • carriers
  • high templars (storm)
  • recallability to defend
  • DT’s making them almost obsolete
  • observers
  • disruptors

Your ‘huge buff’ decreased the blink time by 1 second. All this to make it “a little harder to play protoss”. Wow… epic. If you think toss is that OP go play it. You are going to have a wonderful time…

As the ‘noble gentlemen with true intentions’ you are, you apparently also wants to buff zerg slightly by buffing:

  • banelings
  • tech tier time for vipers
  • ultralisks with range 2
  • broodlord speed upgrade
  • greater spire is now instantly morphed from drones
  • building regeneration because apparently transfuse doesn’t cut it for this specimen
  • nydus networks

You can make a similar summary for your ‘terran balance adaptations’.

Here are some of my changes that also ‘could be great for the game’ as you interprete it.

  • Artanis, Kerrigan and Reynor spawn instantly in your mineral line resetting your drone/scv/probes and larva count to 0.
  • Overlords now require 1 supply and only provide 1 supply. Additional hatcheries don’t provide supply.
  • MULES now mine negative minerals deducting the minerals they mine from the terran bank, medivacs and widowmines get removed from the game and supply depots now cost 250 minerals.

All of these suggestions are of course to prevent some races having free wins vs others while they are a-moving their units. To make it completely fair these changes won’t apply to me whenever I’m having fun playing zerg or terran.

LOL. You said I’m a terran and zerg player who never played Protoss. So I can assure you you haven’t seen my profile. I’m a barcode on EU ladder so good luck to find me.

high templars (storm)

Storm damage decrease for a +20% damage for stormed unit? And it’s a nerf you think? lol.
It makes storm less effective for AoE damage on the other hand, storm becomes a far more versatile spell because you can use it to kill high health point unit faster.

recallability to defend

Recall should have never existed in the first place. Why Protoss is the only race who can have garbage positionning, engage, or decision and erase its mistake with a single ability?

It’s not fair. All the pros are telling it. All but Protoss.

observers

it’s a huge buff band you don’t even realize it.

disruptors

I know your feeling : what the hell I now have to micro my purification nova and detonate it manually it’s stupid. Please let it like before where I can just hit my head on keyboard and delete armies with 2 novas.

banelings

Canceling the last nerf. Baneling have been hard nerfed (3 times in a row at least). And it doesn’t concern Protoss but Terran.

tech tier time for vipers

If you go for a mid game spire it’s usually for mutalisks so you don’t really need Vipers. Especially Vipers without abduct. It’s a huge nerf to Vipers but once again, your game knowledge seems very limited.

ultralisks with range 2

A small buff considering how bad this unit is. Yet Sunburn suggestion is better and it would be a far bigger buff to ultras.

broodlord speed upgrade

It’s speed or range. Broodlords are very bad nowadays. Just watch pro players please.

greater spire is now instantly morphed from drones

Who said it’s instant? It’s the same change than for hydralisk den and lurker den.

building regeneration because apparently transfuse doesn’t cut it for this specimen

End game upgrade because hatcheries get deleted by very small +3 units runby.

nydus networks

Considering nydus network has also been nerfed with the cost of nydus worm, and the cooldown on nydus worm, canceling one of the nerf seems fine.
