Automated Tournament - How was I eliminated?

I signed up for a tournament starting at 16:00. My opponent did not ready up for the first map, I advanced. I checked the rules and they said 25 minute rounds with 5 minute breaks, meaning my next game would be at 16:30 I assumed. At 16:28-16:29 I came back to my computer to see the screen “You have been eliminated from this tournament”. And yes, I know my computer’s time is synced with bnet’s time, it lined up perfectly for the first game.

This experience overall was a massive waste of my time, between waiting forever for game 1 to start and having my opponent not ready up, to then waiting half an hour for game 2 and coming back to being eliminated. There really should be some more clarity on how these tournaments work. But regardless of that, what on earth happened here? How was I eliminated before it was even time to start my game!?

The 25 minute match rule means matches are limited to 25 minutes. If the match on the other side of the bracket finished 1 minute after you got up (let’s say at 16:01 for the sake of explanation) your next match would start at 16:06. I’m guessing you were eliminated because the match finished well before 16:25 and you weren’t there to verify your participation for the next round.

Thanks.

What god awful design. Seems automated tournaments are actually a complete waste of time.

The round tends to end early if everyone is ready. Don’t give up on the tourny’s the 6 round is pretty fun, later one though is better attended.

Why, because you cant go AFK for 15 minutes and still expect to be able to play? Is your opponent just supposed to wait for you to get back?

they really are, and it’s just a over glorified ladder match, if they had a special tournament stats i might be inclined to play, but if you win it just goes on your ladder stats… who cares?

and the fact people can play ladder games in between instead of readying up or waiting is just stupid, i used to play them when they were introduced but quit quickly after my time had been wasted a few too many times. some people are so ignorant when it comes to tournaments and being courteous of other people.

I agree with some of your points, it definitely needs a more tournament field.

For example Bo3, map vetoes maybe with the potential for casters.

that’s a little too much for automated tournaments, but tournament stats would be a good start, and forcing people to only play those matches once they sign up.

Nah, I think you make it different from the ladder. Right now only the 6 round group stage actually feels different.

I think that tournaments at my level would be cool to watch.
Don’t you get a trophy if u win?

Yeah a trophy, but it should be more about the experience. People will join and always show up for community tournaments that can last for 4 hours plus. but the experience is what people show up for.

ya but what’s a digital trophy in sc2 really do for ya? not a whole lot lol, i have like 7 or 8 tourny wins from when they started, doesn’t exactly do anything for me, y’know?

That’s literally why I am arguing for changing the experience of playing in a tourny and also not catering just to the winner or final match.

What digital money do for you? About the same, tbh
You’re playing a game.

i do not see your point here

What do they game really do for ya?
There trophy, digital or otherwise, is simply representative of your skill in a game.

i thought that’s what MMR was for.

Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh… I don’t think so

crazy. what’s MMR for then?

Mmr fluctuates depending on your performance, right? Winning the trophy is a permanent fixture of your ability, even if you got two bys and one win in a tourney
