Are hellions broken in TVP?

Protoss has no real defense. Hellions are light armor and faster than zealots, stalkers, adepts, and sentries. With reactors you can have 4 hellions out on the map at 3:20 with a second command center mining in the background. At that same time point protoss might be able to field one air unit but at best mostly gateway units. In facts its pretty hard to get an air unit out generally before 3:30 (the fastest proxy oracle can hit at like 3:40)

I don’t think simply trying to prevent them from getting into the base works either because they can be dropped in by medivacs or the reaper bounce. In fact the 4 hellion drop in the main has become the new way to crush protoss rapidly.

I’ve just been thinking more and more about my hellion losses and even when I know it’s coming I can’t stop it. If I place a stasis in the natural, they drop in the main. Looking at TY vs hurricane that just happened today it seems to confirm my suspicion that there really is no good cost effective defense to 4 hellion harass in the PVT matchup. I’m not really sure what can be done balance wise to address it either.

Hellions are probably terran’s best BO win right now. You should hold it fine with stargate and a wall off.

No they are not, you can scout that with adept and block entrance with stalker. And if it is 1 base hellion drop, than you just camp in your main. If it is 2 base. You just put 1-2 stalkers between pylon and gateway, or use sentry. However if you do mistake you can get punished soo hard. Game is cancer nowadays, it is only about killings workers. Hurricane did mistake letting hellions in and he got instant loss. But it may as well do nothing. It is so cancer, because it doesn’t matter who is better player anymore. It is just about who kills more workers first, that’s it…

Just wall your Nat and you will be fine vs Hellions

Not entirely, You also need secondary walls behind your mineral lines to restrict Hellion movement.

And in the case of a drop, split probes x3, 1/3rd attack the hellions, the other 2 run in opposite directions while you clean up.

I would like to add that Hellion drop build is also extremely fragile vs an All in. Hellions and medivac provide no firepower (compared to bio openers) versus an 2 base all in from Toss. If you notice Terran did this build, just all in him with 2 base and it should be an easy win.

Love these balance claims from someone’s l2p issues. Put 1-2 stalker, if you dont even know how to position and run after the units like a dog trying to bite its tail no wonder will look broken…

Fun fact: Best cost efficiency Hellbat can get while fighting Zealots is 2X it oscilates between 2X and 1.5X depending on upgrades. Helions can uder no circumstances other than camping in choke point do better than 1X.

Had a Terran do this to me yesterday. So I just marches across the map and killed him while using warp ins to clean up. I smelled Hellion Banshee so I already had 1 cannon per mineral line.

Early game it is all about building placement, so that hellions (and reapers) can’t freely run circles around your nexus, and unit placement, such as blocking the ramp with a stalker. Make sure you don’t line all the probes up trying to run away.
