Putting some thoughts and a perspective.
I do prefere sc over aoe personally, but I think the best thing I could do to support the classical real-time strategy genre is to purchase aoe4.
I browsed through youtube yesterday and it’s widly accepted that RTS is a no-profit market by all companies except for Microsoft. If Microsoft’s AOE4 doesn’t sell, then I see no chance for the genre. Other companies would give up on classical RTS for a long time.
But if it sold succesuful it would have the oppositve effect on companies…

There are two companies (Tencent and Frost Giant) whose staff have years of RTS experience currently working on some next gen RTS games.

the thing is that I do not think it is just Microsoft, other companies tried making RTS. It is Blizzard the ones who do not want to invest, if you gave starcraft IP to other company you must be sure a new game would be in the making in less than one month.RTS market is niche but it has some following. It is simply Blizzards fault, they do not want to invest in something that requires developement time when they can get money from lootboxes or something else that requires less investment. They are really greedy. Microsoft is doing what other company would do if they had a recognizable franchise, milking it by making more titles and keeping the franchise going.

Microsoft and games lol if they r as bad as their updates that bring new bugs. But ofc when they give to Indians, cheap labor to do things half S-ed. Have u seen online support of Microsoft,? Some volunteers that have zero clue where to find the problem and answer with completely unrelated nonsense
I like AoE and SC2. I’ll definitely be buying AoE 4.
I have generally preferred Blizzard RTS but objectively AoE 2 is a great game. AoE3 is trash objectively speaking but personally I kind of like it.
Both AoE2 and AoE3 have gotten new expansions recently. I thought Dawn of Dukes new campaigns were fantastic, the new civs themselves were pretty cool.

I don’t trust big corporations to produce quality games. There is a meme that is a caricature of what they think players like and which is wildly detached from what players actually like. While hyper-realistic graphics were being pushed by clowns in EA with absolute garbage game play, for example, a block based game with zero graphics called “Minecraft” was taking over the market.
So if you want to see a good video game, find indie developers who are passionate about making a fun RTS game. To these people, the money is a secondary bonus. Graphics are usually last on their priority list since the #1 priority is making a fun, functional game and since they are pinched on cash they have to prioritize.
I’ve been following this game for a long time. There haven’t been updates in a couple years. It happens frequently with independent projects since life gets busy and the developers sponsoring the project don’t find time for it. The thing that caught my eye was the fully 3D terrain, and also deformable terrain. So explosions deform the terrain, bulldozers deform the terrain, etc. If a unit can spot the highground depends on how high the ground is and how tall the unit is. I believe it also has full fluid simulations, so the water & lava can actually flow from a higher point to a lower point. It’s a cool concept:

Perhaps I put to much faith into Microsoft. I really hope any of your suggestions will be a hit & big enough to re-ignite the genre and to blow away the mainstream !
