Adjustable game-speed

Game speed should be a separate option from difficulty.
I’m getting bored being forced to play normal because I can’t stand the faster game speed.
Or what ever the heck it is.
Trying to keep up with the game when it’s on fast-forward literally hurts have to spend all of what little APM I can muster on just building units because I can only play deathball at that speed on top of the more dangerous AI armies.

I think it interferes with trigger timings. As in the objectives and waves are unable to adjust with ingame speed (this time) adjustment.

The more you play, it’ll get easier.

Nope.

Hard “used” to be played at the same speed as “normal” (which I think, officially, is “fast” instead of “faster”), but was accelerated to the “faster” speed because of player complaints that A: when a “brutal” player expected the faster speed but the game “downshifted” because the matchmaker pulled in a “hard” player, the player’s timings / patterns were thrown off and B: too many people felt the leap from “fast” hard to “faster” brutal and the extra enemy abilities etc. was “too steep” a jump, so moving the “faster” jump to the “hard” level gave players a chance to “focus on moving faster” while not having to face all the tricks of brutal. (IIRC, the only “trick” the enemy gets on hard but not normal is stealth)

OP: I’m a bit of a “low APM” player myself. Like averaging 20 APM slow. Yeah, I’d love to be able to adjust the game speed, too, but how would I be allowed to do so and still, if I random queued, not “slow down” that brutal guy that I get matchmade with?

Thusly, I’ve taken to relying on the game’s “tricks” and automation to “effectively multiply” my lacking APM. To wit:

Say I have my “defense building SCV” on hotkey 3. I can put the back wall of DoN “on screen” during day 2, then push 3, B-U (for Flamer), hold down shift then click out a line of flamers. SCV starts travelling from wherever he was to the first flamer and starts building it. Let up shift (to remove the flamer build order) the press B-G-Shift and now you can click down a row of gun turrets to follow the construction of the flamers. Move a cluster of “idle” SCVs near these lines, the automatic assist system kicks in and they will “group build” a turret, then the “helpers” go back to their original deployment area till they realize the next turret is being built - yeah, it’s not as “efficient” as microing them, but it lets the power function while I’m off doing something else (like setting up another defense wall, double checking for losses at main, etc.)
During, say, OE, I’ll frequently use Karax. I can hotkey the gateway to 4, 2xStarports to 6, and set the rally points for both groups near the south pair of tracks - this way, when I want a couple of energizers or carriers to help reinforce my clusters of cannons/monoliths, 4,E,E or 6,V,V gets me 2 energizers or carriers “on order” to report to the tracks as soon as they arrive - without me ever looking at main base.

Practice your system till you’re rocking it hard on “normal”, then give “hard” another try…

I overall prefer Hard to be on fastest. However, exception is some HARDtations are frantic enough that being on the slower speed has been appreciated (although can’t cry about that now. And I tell myself FWIW, I have gotten better since then, even if I still struggle with Brutations).

Also, why hotkey Gateways? They’re already hotkeyed to ‘W’ when you turn them into Warp Gates.

Custom mutations have wider game speed options as far as I know. Or you can try arcade maps.

Having game speed as a separate option to difficulty means there would be
number of game speeds * number of difficulties matchmaking queues. And that’s no-go.

Honestly, I’ve been using the same “core groupings” since my SC I days, and in all this time I’ve come to think of the sequences involved as “how the game works in my eyes”. So when I’m posting on how I use hotkeys, out comes “my” habitual patterns…

Also, “gateway group, unit, unit” doesn’t work when they’re warp gates, it’d be “gateway group / W, unit, click click”… sorta betrays when I tend to buy the warp gate upgrade during OE…
