Adepts Glaive bounce upgrade

Is there a reason that Blizzard got rid of the original adept upgrade that let the adept attack bounce between targets? I know that was the original design and I don’t see why that would be an OP ability. I could see there being a problem with worker harass, but I think it would be a good way to buff the adept later game. It would give toss a slight form of AOE outside of disruptors, colossus, and storm. It would also make up for some of the damage that has been taken away from the zealot charge nerf.

That’s not surprising. But I still don’t see why it would affect it too much. The bounce would only affect marines for the most part. Maybe ghosts, but at that stage I would think adepts would be phased out.

Playing against Bio terran in PvT is so boring at this point. As a toss you know you chance to survive is if you can get out some sort of splash as fast as possible. If you don’t you lose. And now that ghosts are even better and zealots are even worse the chances of holding are so much harder. I for one enjoy the match up far more that mech has become a much more viable strategy.

2 reasons.

1 being overlap with the Mutalisk concept; bouncing attacks. They wanted something unique, not an borrowed concept from another race.

2 being that it mauled Marines waaaaaaay too hard.

I think the Adept should have an upgrade to increase it’s damage but AoE or bouncing is probably not the way to do it.

Maybe have any enemy unit shade passes through receive -1 or 2 armor for a few seconds? Gives Shade more utility, doesn’t require Shade to complete, supports the Protoss army later on, etc.

Any protoss nerf can be summed up in two words:

Marines aren’t supposed to be good against everything. and after they get combat shield (around the time this upgrade would come into play) wouldn’t they offset essentially. The marine is allowed to scale but the adept can’t?

Regardless it seems like it would be a decent way to fix the problem with the adept

They could also just let Adepts shoot up. Simple change that wouldn’t be gamebreaking but would give Adepts some mid game utility.

You are wrong in one thing: the bounce only would happened when the target die, not on each attack like mutalisk. It is a different concept.

I do think the adept shooting up would be less valuable than people think as the units they would be fighting (phoenix, mutas, ravens, banshees) would all be significantly faster than the adept and adepts only have a range of 4. Adepts can shade but that can only do so much (see for example how hard it is for one adept to keep up with a reaper. It’d be even worse with a flying unit). I guess the best case scenario would be if they were kept on hold position or something.

I dont see them being very useful shooting air either. But it would be better than nothing and I’d like to see it tested at least

Stalkers are terrible vs light air units and they cost more.

Adepts would provide an alternative and complement if they could attack air.

Am I the only one resigned to the Adept being basically the reaper? Useful for early game scout but that’s pretty much it.

Yes. You are like that 1 swarmhost that gets accidentally built when players are trying to build Infestors.

It was supposed to a core gateway unit though

Bio Terrans whine about Toss and Toss gets nerfed.

Toss struggles vs Zerg heavily.

Zerg gets nerfed.

Bio Terrans still whine.

Ok but remove shade … and make it front line unit… with shade it will be broken as hell … Terran splash dmg do FF they will need siege tanks to fight this new adept
