Abathur was buffed

Symboites now target rocks, so you can expand faster with your leviathans!

They buffed everyone then bc they made rocks be hostile after the patch.

It’s just that, so you can place canons, spores, send inf civs, etc w/o having to target rocks, even workers with a-move will attack them.

Pretty sure he’s nerfed, since it’s now a little bit harder to do a full rock HP Abathur Brutal TotP solo.

Those rocks that block the enemy waves are flagged as friendly units unless I am mistaken.

In full rock HP Abathur Brutal TotP you don’t break any rocks.

So don’t A-move past expo rocks?

before this patch you couldn’t attack the rocks with symboites even if you attack moved on the rocks

This really hurts my soul to think about.

So you mean to tell me you wait to have brutalisks or leviathans before breaking expansion rocks?

I don’t use Brutalisk to break rocks myself. Usually invest 200min on Sunken. I find the time is better spent pulling units onto Nests to maximize Biomass, for early 3x Brutalisk. Although there is something to be considered to simply pop 3x Brutalisk over to break expansion rocks, meanwhile focus more on tech’ing up for Leviathans (cuz 200min can be a spire or a Hive cost for minerals).

Brutalisk expand is actually a thing. On most non-mutation maps, you tank your economy to rush 6 Ultimates. Only then do you expand, if the game somehow isn’t over by that time.

How does tanking your economy help with getting UEs? Do you open with mutas instead of roaches or something?

Arrin is referring to Roach into 3 x Brutalisk then tech’ing straight to Spire for Mutalisk into 3 Leviathans.

The power creep of getting each Ultimate Evolution is unmatched. It is part of the reason why a lot of speed runs have Abathur, solo are possible as Abathur, brutations by Abathur. The early boost and execution give him a huge advantage in many maps.

You open with 3 of each as quickly as possible.

I’m still confused. Does he go for spire and his first mutas before breaking the rocks?

Usually, when playing Abathur I break the rocks before I even have a lair, let alone the leviathan he mentioned. Or any roaches for that matter. First roach comes out for the attack wave to collect biomass but the rocks are usually done by that time.

Yeah, it is especially more prevalent now that the rocks are hostile. You can break them much faster than investing the early Sunken and Hatchery only to get the economy started.

By luring existing units on the map into nests, you can typically have an ultimate evolution or two before the first attack wave. This investment in both resources (for earliest roach possible) and apm leads to a much greater snowball than investing into an early expansion as abathur. It continues as you tech up to lair to obtain 3 leviathans asap.

With this said, Yuri’s post is still mostly a joke. Clearing the expo rocks with ulimate evos is usually/probably not optimal because they’re better off doing things on the map while you’re expanding. As Arrin pointed out, except for difficult mutations on longer maps, expanding at all as Abathur isn’t really necessary.

Just want to say to anyone who doesn’t recognise Yuri or Arrin please go and search their runs (speed runs, solo mutation runs, etc. you name it) on youtube, their way to play can definitely amaze you and show you some great tips on using all commanders; also, Yuri has a post that has a link to all current world records on all the maps and these 2 guys actually hold most of the records.

Thank god somebody noticed the piss-taking.

If you put it that way I guess it could be considered a buff. Though I have just heard of this strat just now. I also get all 6 UEs but that’s by mid game. I usually rush expos so I can churn out resources for vipers, hosts or mutalisk morphs. UE’s are good by themselves but they are near unstoppable when properly supported by biomassed queens and vipers.
