If you put two Nexus near each other doesn’t that mean you have infinite energy if you just keep recharging the other nexus?
True. This 1 range nerf will win me some mmr!
I have a confession to make. Never have i built a tempest in 1v1 ranked. Either im dying in the early game or im dying in the midgame or im dying in the extended midgame. Or im dying with carriers. There is no room for tempests.
Suck it!
Blah. If you had it your way and they buff the colossus to hots levels you’d be making them in PvP. That’s where the real power of the sentry comes in. A hallucinated colossus takes all the shots off the real ones so they could use their laser beams.
YES
And in the meantime fix pvp. Btw didnt they invent shield bat overcharge to make pvp playable? When they remove it they make pvp a cheesefest again. Which it is still but at least its kinda doable.
They could give me the ability to “super hallucinate” a unit that becomes the actual unit for a short time (idk costs 150 or 200 energy). That way protoss could survive in pvp.
okok i just said that because i want to build like 3 sentries to make a timing attack with hallucinated voids to replay the iconic huk vs idra moment.
but seriously. we need a fix for early/midgame pvp again and at least everything i would propose would still be better than everything this sh!t council has ever done ![]()
YEEEES! Fun times ![]()
The old lore that everyone forgot. Yep, the overcharge battery was to stop proxy robo builds and to have defenders advantage in PvP. Harstem had to learn that again in his playthrough on the PTR against Astrea when he realized that it is definitely possible to hold terran builds without it. He even found the magic of opening sentry in PvT despite doing it all the time in PvP.
Naaaaah not buying that. Both guys are known traitors. Its just a show. Its like when mommy did the airplane with broccoli to your favorite toy and said yummy yummy.
Harstem switched career to entertaining. He cant win with protoss even when protoss would be op so he needs other ways to make money. Thats why he plays on all sides and tries to appeal to zerg and terran.
But yeah. I should maybe build a sentry in pvt
but how am i supposed to still dt expand then?
Have you considered that it’s just because he’s not some weirdo who ties his whole identity to whether or not a race in a game he plays is strong?
Someone who is reasonable would try to appeal to all players, because it’s a healthier mindset. And yes, because he’s also an entertainer, and a pretty good one at that, if you ask me.
Im pretty much memeing at this point because i switched races a few patches ago because of balance council. The balance patch is obviously not good and im glad that overcharge is gone so maybe they will give protoss something in the future to compensate that. I hope its the colossus revert to hots era and delete the disruptor.
BUT
on reddit there are some interesting youtube videos with quotes. for example where heromarine straight up said he would completly favor terran as hes a terran pro and wants to make money with terran. and other races should try the same. there are quotes from dns and pig saying its exactly whats happening in council meetings. Harstem is a nice guy and his approach would be correct in a fair and ideal world. However this is sadly not the case here.
I wish the balance council would be full of harstems of all races.
Funnily enough, heromarine is the exact pro I think of when I think of a balance whiner lol
Yeah exactly. And because there are many many whiny pros the people who scream the loudest will win in balance council. From what ive seen you were afk for some time? Did you know that 2 patches ago (1 year ago), the balance council said something like: Hey we know protoss needs help in pvt but here is a cyclone rework. The cyclone started in ptr from being completly bananas like a warhound 2.0 countering every unit to getting a nerfed but still hella bananas. Meaning that a 3k player named akrij reached 5k after harstem did a funny cheese video where he did some kind of cyclone all in. Turns out akrij saw that, refined it a tiny bit and gained +2k mmr. After him getting famous and his cyclone all in was known by nearly everyone, everyone knew the counter and blindcountered him. He stopped playing terran and is now 3k zerg. I still got my free masters with terran with a couple of accounts even after everyone knew, beating a 5.1k mmr guy in the process. Rumor has it that spirit wanted a cyclone rework so badly.
The cyclone got nerfed some time after.
Another story is that observers got nerfed 2 times because they were frustrating to deal with (frustrating to see and frustrating when they fly away after you scanned). Rumor has it that special was behind the nerfs.
And now shield bat overcharge got removed because it was frustrating to deal with.
So maybe that explains why all hell broke loose and people (especially protoss) got fed up by constant protoss nerfs and terran buffs (and excuuuuse meee? ghosts werent touched??). Im all for changes to make the game more healthy, but if there is a clear bias of pro players, then its just not fun nor healthy anymore.
and the meme is going to be full circle when the council only targets snipe against Zerg as a ghost nerf.
I would applaud the balance council and quit the game. They would have successfully played everyone. ggwp!
Speak for yourself. I’m definitely going to switch to Zerg and Toss in team games. Energy overcharge to get more microbial shroud? EZPZ.
This is a lot to digest, I only play vs AI (harder), and don’t see much in the way of shield batteries/overcharge, Motherships, and forcefields. I do see another range decrease for Libs, even w/the area increase, which will make them more vulnerable. Terrans, as a race, are pretty averse to seeing their comrades die en masse, and to those of you who don’t like turtling, too bad. It’s just what Terrans do to eventually get an edge, as opposed to the ‘over the top, soldier’ mentality so many of you want.
I think that you don’t realize that with the Tempest, you will be able to easily get 5 for the supply of 4 (currently). Which means that your structures will evaporate w/the Tempest upgrade. Also, no change in the range for the Viper’s special air attack, will decimate sieged Libs v. Zerg.
I think that the Colossus should be able to be sieged for a +2 range (or so), and the damage path for the beams be just a smidge wider. For Zerg, just like Terran structures in the air are air units, unsieged spores and crawlers should be able to be targeted as ground units by Libs, so Zerg players must be a bit more careful about moving them to counter Libs.
Too much sequential reduction in ranges for Terran stuff, and the sticky Microbial Shroud will make fighting off Ultras a nightmare.
Yeah, I know, I am an idiot, but help me understand the PTR changes for an ordinary player.
Did you not notice the idea of infinite energy? Two Nexus near each other if you can target the other nexus. 50 Energy into 100 Energy. Repeat the process on the other Nexus. Infinite energy. Infinite chronos/storms/hallucinations. Unless a Nexus cannot target another Nexus protoss might have become broken.
you have to be pretty fair into the game and rather ahead to be able to afford 2 nexus next to each other. Also keep in mind that the energy overcharge has a global cooldown of 1 minute. Meaning actually exploiting infinite energy or exploiting the mechanic to the degree that one could call it broken would take ages. I think the mechanic is good enough as it is for midgame or later stages since you will always have some energy left and giving ht or something +100 energy is worth more than a chrono.
Nobody can. Im sorry. Not even the balance council understands it.
On a more serious note: They have some valid points across the board but saying the want to nerf the turtle style and only remove shield battery overcharge and buff every other static d or turtle mechanic in existence pretty contradictory (especially if they further buff the most turtle race in turtleing). Also that they state, hey we want to make protoss better for pros and then…just nerf them?
Like sure, we need better spines and spores. Suuuuure we need better liberator for camping. Meanwhile ghosts stay untouched meaning you can now camp better behind your liberators. Wonder if there are some maps where you could abuse the new supply calldown buff. Terran tends to waste so much energy with a bazillion scans anyways, but i dont think so, because you can just invest 150 minerals for 1k hp barracks anyways if you want to shut down narrow choke.
GGWP!
Speaking of DTs and I’m going to lmao when this happens. There will be a time where a dt is swiping a depot to get inside the terran’s main and the correct response will be to use the supply drop instead of a scan. It’s going to happen in a 50 minute Gumiho vs Showtime game and I’m going to feel so sorry for the dude.
Omggggg. you are right. didnt think about that.
Balance council actually actively tries to nerf me and my strats ![]()
Trust me when I say, after testing this change out - that liberator area increase cannot go through. It would be insane to do so. It’s brokenly strong, and I say that as a Terran player myself.
IMO I think the tempest change is good; making it easier to break turtling players is not a bad thing, and improving micro for them is even better because skill can actually play a better part in its usage.
Turtling also tends to lead to boring and stale gameplay; I think the changes - reducing PF armour and sensor tower range definitely leans into trying to make turtling less viable. The liberator change feels like it kinda directly contradicts that idea though.
Honestly, this was rarely ever an issue, especially given that ghosts didn’t get touched - which I’m genuinely surprised they didn’t do.
Interesting idea; I wouldn’t be opposed to it, though I could see some potential problems cropping up with it.
Slippery slope; I really, really don’t think this is necessary at all - libs being unable to target buildings is on of the factors that balances them in the first place, and this would effectively remove that balancing factor vs Zerg.
Not gonna lie, this does concern me, but ghosts still remain a strong counter to ultras, despite ultras being improved significantly in this patch.
Yeah, I don’t see this really being a thing tbh.
I think this is a bit on the nose; there are definitely some things that I do think were uncalled for; the disruptor nerf primarily, even if it’s partially “offset” by the range reversion. There’s no reason this should have gone through in its current state, and I hope we see more changes and alterations during this testing phase.
However, I do think that the potential Energy Overcharge actually has for strategic plays and possible defense options certainly outweighs the more binary Shield Overcharge currently - I do think something for batteries might be needed aside from the health buff (I’d like to see an increased healing rate for the same current energy cost, or more maximum energy on the shield batteries).
I do think it’s going to make oracle openers extremely good given the large swath of energy oracles will have both for scouting and for defending early pushes with pulsar beam’s generally high damage output now lasting significantly longer because of it.
The tempest changes I think are genuinely great, the mothership changes are good in isolation but I feel like it needs more HP or keep the current MS cost of the live patch in tandem with the new HP/Shield on the current PTR patch.
Spines, fine - especially given the cost of the queen has increased, making queen defenses harder to pull off, I feel like this is warranted. Spores didn’t need changes at all IMO.
As I’ve previously stated, the liberator change is absurd and shouldn’t be in the game.
Eh, this is an odd one. I’m not exactly opposed to the change but it does feel a little weird and completely unnecessary.
Only once they have the Iron Bank, and getting scans is the majority of the reason to get it.
