4th race but make them underdogs

It would be nice to have a major refresh with the game in the form of a new race. But make them underdogs so you don’t have to worry about balance concerns but players could play it for the challenge and it would be fun to add a new dynamic.

yeah but the question is story wise what would it be? It couldn’t be the Xel 'Naga because they are more powerful than the protoss! Maybe it could be the primals…like more powerful than normal zerg I don’t know. Or it could be off some neutral creatures but the zerg have been killing them and stealing their essence in SC2.

But what it it’s only 1 dude making a whole bunch of buildings and constructs? If you cheapest units cost 1000/1000, then you can make them pretty strong and still be garbage.

But more realistically, you make the new race the infested.

story/lore doesnt matter when it comes to balance

in the lore a carrier can destroy multiple battlecruisers, a zealot can kill an ultralisk 1v1, an archon can destroy anything, etc

but in the game carriers are hard countered by BCs, ultralisks counter zealots, and archons have low damage output

Actually… lorewise absolutely none of these are true.

In Lore even smaller than BC ships are enough to threaten anything, and BCs are scary to anything shy of a mothership. Not that protoss and Zerg don’t have anti-capital ship weaponry, but lore carrier definately dies to lore BC.

Youre wrong. They are true. And lore carriers dominate lore BCs

Gantrithor wiped out battlecruiser fleets when the protoss were glassing infested terran planets. it didnt matter if the fleet had “hero” battlecruisers or not either

In “queen of blades” a carrier was one shotting several of raynor’s ships with purification beam (although not all were battlecruisers)

In “shadow of the xel naga,” after the terran Alpha Squadron, the strongest terran squadron, surprise attacked the Protoss and Zerg that were already engaged in combat, 5 carriers were sent to engage the 15 battlecruisers and 2 science vessels. the result was that two battlecruisers were immediately destroyed by interceptors of a single carrier and the Alpha squadron had to retreat. This is keeping in mind that the Alpha Squadron was led by “hero” battlecruiser the Norad III

also in the “mothership” short story, a mothership quickly wiped out a squadron of BCs

Infested terrans are pretty worthless though. In SCII they are terrible. But in SC1 theyre not bad they do good damage as suicide units. Still I can’t really see story wise how infested terrans could be called their own race. Even with Stukov leading them. I think your idea is to make them the night elves from Warcraft but story wise in SCII to me it does not make sense…I know everybody is going to disagree with me but that’s my opinion. As Stukov, Hanson, and Kerrigan all aluded to in the campaign being infested is a torturous process where the terran does not maintain their free will. And the protoss dont consider them a threat at all. But whatever dont listen to me. Kids are going to turn the whole story into a big cl uster fuc k…well we saw how well that worked out in Street Fighter V…which was a game that had a real story and then they veered off course with all of the new characters and it only worked because kids accepted it but true fans didnt.

A new race would have to be the Xel’naga. There just aren’t any other races in SC2, Unless you mean different Factions, like Primal Zerg/Mercenary Terrans/Tal’Darim Protoss, or Nerazim/UED/Leviathan Brood.

Imagine how much more the whiners would whine once they find out that that their race is underpowered when you gave them an actually underpowered race.

well technically the protoss and zerg are just lower level off shoots of the Xel 'Naga. Maybe what could happen is because Amon or whatever created the zerg and protoss. Maybe Artanis as a protoss could create two lesser races weaker than the protoss and Zagara could create two races weaker than the zerg. That way you could have more races but they would be weaker than protoss and zerg rather than more powerful like the Xel 'Naga. Blizzard would have to think seriously about these decisions as balance has always been a big issue in SC2.

You’re clearly new here. You can’t just introduce a new race, make them intentionally bad, and maintain a healthy MMR environment where playing that race doesn’t just mean free MMR for everyone not playing that race.

Make a mod for it. I’m not saying it can’t happen, I’m saying it shouldn’t happen on ladder because it ruins the point of the ladder and inflates the value of MMR.
