You win, and you NEEED to lose

The matchmaker is so obviously rigged. They see your stats, and instead of better opponents, you get worse teammates.
This piece of trash will make OW2 not worth playing.

Im so annoyed with people saying this

THERE IS NO RIGGING OF GAMES
YOU DETERMINE THE OUTCOME OF THE GAME

WHY TF WOULD BLIZZ RIG GAMES?

THERE IS NO NEED TO

Really? Even owl players like Super makes fun about this 50/50.
So Idk, maybe it is true.

It is just funny how I have won like 5 or 6 games in a row and then the next 5 games I have 3 or 4 new players on my team (not smurfs or alts) but the other team has silver and golden borders. Sorry, it is like a bad joke

Maybe, just maybe, stop after an hour or two, you need to take frequent breaks

Unless it´s competetive I don´t really care? Why are people so obsessed with winning every game? The point is to enjoy the game. Relax…

It’s not necessarily that they’re rigging games, the competitive system is just designed to keep you playing, it’s not actually designed as a fair system to put the best players at the top. Pretty much everyone in masters + gets there by grouping up with other good players which is the only way to get around the garbage matchmaking system.

Here’s how it works. If the matchmaking bot puts 6 players with good stats on the same team it flags it and says “this team is too good”. It then removes 3 of those good players and replaces them with 3 players with poor stats. It does this for both teams to try and force a 50% chance to win for both teams. This is a terrible system because it guarantees that every game some good players will lose and some bad players will win. It uses skilled players as carries. They do this because they want to keep people addicted and if bad players are losing every game they’d just quit so they use skilled players to carry bad players so they don’t lose all the time.

An actual fair competitive system would just do random matchmaking within 500 sr.

As another forum user once said if you watch all your replays in comp you’re guaranteed to find at least one person on your team underperforming every game and if you can’t find them, it’s you. This checks out.

Well, one upside of 5v5 is that matchmaking gets a lot better.

Thanks for the tip

No need to be rude

and that can be reported as trolling (even the part you kept, plus the mods can see edit history)

There are some elements of this that are accurate. The primary goal of a matchmaking system is to give you a fun and even match, as well and as often as possible, not to give the best players the highest win percentage.

It’s essentially automating the same thing everyone did in friendly LAN groups in the days before online matchmaking became the norm: You’d look at your group of players/friends and try your best to divide them in a way that gives both teams a similar combined skill level, so that everyone can have fun and compete with each other in a reasonably even match.

Of course, the visible score (SR) in Overwatch ranked play inherently encourages people to measure themselves by that number and want to increase it, but scoring individual players in a team game is nothing better than an aggregation of results. A more meaningful assessment of skill in a team game would be applied to a team, not to an individual, but organized teams don’t have their own league/ladder in-game.

I literally just had a game against a smurf 6 stack and i had 3 kids who just bought the game on my team and people say overwatch’s matchmaking is “good”

For probably past entire year quick play matchmaker gives me quite consistent streaks of 10-12 wins where occasionally 1 or 2 might as well be losses and then after that exactly same, or sometimes even longer streak of losses where 1-2 might still be wins. And most of those games are just complete steamrolls that have no signs of competition or anything. Literally, after winning a bunch of non challenging and not entertaining games the game goes into fight for your life mode and gives me teammates with bricks instead of hands and no ears and no eyes who have no basic knowledge of counterpicking even or tanks that don’t understand what they can pick and when. It takes absolutely absurd forms, and I do humbly doubt that a matchmaker can be more poor than it currently is. Literally streaks of 10-12 losses make my brain matter boil slowly and somehow I do also have 9 toxicity bans for my 3 years of play. I wonder how these two things are connected and could it be that Blizzard made a perfect system that builds up toxicity on its own. I can’t call this matchmaker anything but a inner self sabotage by Blizzard, along with their pitiful anticheat system and never ending stream of sales to let poor banned for cheats kids have a brand new account for five dollars just. Do we have any reason to think that things are going to change with release of OW2? Absolutely not.

It isn’t the match maker that’s the issue. This is the problem.

I have like an 80% torb winrate this season across like 30+ games.
So obviously you’re doing something wrong.

I actually read this exact post and follow it to this day. It’s such a great post that isn’t saying “my teammates bring me down” but more “the matchmaking is garbage lit on fire”

Swap roles others will call you a conspiracy nut, but it’s true if you are on a win streak the match maker will go out of its way to find the worst players or players having a worse day in your rank and put in your game to have you carry them so they can feel better. If you some how carry them the next batches will be obvious throwers and leavers.

If you quickly swap role after the first garbage team the matchmaker puts you in to secure the L, you will immediately see in the other role matchmaker is fine, then after a few matches if you swap back to original role you won’t get garbage teams.

It’s not about winning but about not having throwers leavers, players who are having a trash day contributing to a garbage one sided match experience despite both teams being same ranks.

There’s a patent on Blizzard’s mm that specifies this. The mm absolutely does put you in a team with worse teammates if you perform well. It’s their way of balancing, but it’s also quite moronic in that it forces you to carry games every match. It’s exhausting.

30 games is a small sample size go another 30 and come back I will bet a virtual hats off of you manage to keep it above 70%.

If you go a hundred games I’m sure you will get to 56 ish percentage.

Mathematically, no.

The average “SR” that you get in QP or comp will be lower and more restricted then that of a 6-team comp.

It only takes one person to screw up who is versing who.
