You can’t afford a phone?

Man, I am ashamed you share the name of my favourite pokemon. There past circumstances that might prevent someone from getting a phone plan that they’ve dealt with previously but are feeling the impacts of today.

But I have a phone except my number doesn’t work for some reason. In addition to paying $60 for Overwatch (plus whatever priced I payed to get it on PC too), I’ll now have to get a new cell phone plan if I want to play the game I bought?

I’ve said this before, but I’m impressed at how down hill Overwatch is going. When’s the good news going to happen?

Me, my dude. I’ve had cricket for years and my number is perfectly fine and reliable for everything. I can tether it to my laptop for great internet on the go, and I seem to get good coverage no matter where I am. I realized how good this service is when I was on a 10 hour car ride, and still had endless content to watch thanks to youtube and HBO Max.

My point is that this is Blizzard’s problem. My phone’s great, my plan’s great, and I shouldn’t have to adjust and pay for a potentially worse provider just to play a game I already bought years ago.

Blocks then from… competitive mode.

OP gives me the vibes of a very fat, jovial man being hand fed grapes by 10 women and scoffs at the poor who bring up issues, because he himself do not experience said things.
this has been a debate for years; poor people deserve fun and have things. Just because im on government assistance, it doesnt mean i have to sit in bed all day with nothing. human life is about experiences and fun, art and creativity. people like op probably make fun of people for not having skins on these games too. lmao

youre funny, vin. if you so much as scroll a bit around the OW forums you can see, multiple threads of multiple different people complaining. its also ‘concern’, not ‘corcern’. but its ok, i too typo when im starting arguments on the internet.
but to help aid you in finding people; I have a pc. built it from the stimmy checks that came out. I have a phone, my grandma bought it for me with money she won from a lawsuit settlement. I also have a switch. A Day one switch. That i got from the extra funds i get from my college. and yet, even having a good computer, and having a switch, and having a samsung galaxy 21, my family is still on cricket. and cricket, is not allowed

I mean… can I be that one example? I don’t have the health to go out much, so I do all my things from my computer. I haven’t had a working cell phone in years. My phone is an iphone 5s, so far out dated, that it can’t even download from the itunes app store or whatever it’s called. Because it demands an IOS version newer than my phone even supports. No sim card, no service, 32 gigs of space. I haven’t really needed a new phone because I don’t go out or make calls. Nor do I really have the money for maintaining phone service.

well all the other steps they also implemented and will implement and the ones they wont tell us about to limit circumvention.

and of course a quick basic google search shows how to circumvent.

then youve got a little over 30 years experience of how blizzard deals with these issues before

  1. dont tell people then they cant circumvent
  2. allow it to run catch a wide net then issue waves

i kinda thought it was an obvious line to draw the conclusion they clearly dont think a single line of defence is going to get this done. if it were that simple they would of cleaned up OW1 or any other acti/blizz shooter

besides this is all happening before launch attempting to solve theoretical problems with presumptive ideas, its just not how anyone engineers an actual solution to anything.

it is though how you do PR and that is what this is.

This post got ratioed hard.

LOL, maybe people can afford any phone service they want but choose not to because it’s not worth. I’m sitting here posting on my prepaid. Only difference is I’m not under contract. Maybe suckering you into financing a phone with your overpriced plan is sort of a poor tax. Or maybe you just like to pay for the convenience. I just buy a phone outright and buy a plan.

I can’t drive so I rarely leave the house, and I get no cell service at my home. So why would I have a phone?

I did get one only four years ago just to play Pokemon Go and for emergencies, but it’s stupid expensive and it’s something I could (and should) totally live without.

My point is, not everyone has a phone, and there are a ton of valid reasons for not owning one. I feel really bad for the folks who get screwed over by this.

Truly does sound like a 12 year old on mom’s credit card.

Gaslighting into absolute stupidity is a result of this post.

What is wrong with some people?

Some people use certain providers or plans or pre-paid or whatever because of a multitude of reasons. You don’t know peoples circumstances.

People should not have to change provider or swap contracts just because Blizzard have deemed their provider or plan not good enough.

Blizzard need to address this and not stay silent.

You’re talking about others being salty, while you probably make up 80% of the Red Sea.

Some people can’t afford phones. I didn’t have one till a year ago. Not all people can get good paying jobs, and inflation is very much a thing everywhere.

Appreciate what you have, instead of ripping into others cause they can’t afford ‘a decent phone’ when you have no idea what their financial situation is like. And whether people can afford them or not, limiting this new entry system or whatever to owned phones, which I’m just assuming is what’s going on, is a scummy move regardless. It’s a good idea to have some kind of limiting barrier of entry to stop the high amount of smurfs in the game, but there’s likely better ways it could’ve been resolved in the game.

My favourite part besides the narrow-mindedness of OP is referencing having a “decent phone” at the end of his post, rather than phone plan/provider…

Prepaid doesn’t mean poor in many countries. Straight up, you don’t understand how different countries work.

This is more of you problem (if you don’t have a phone or selected provider)rather then a blizzard problem.

I know it sounds bad but it’s the true.

1.if you can’t afford it you should not be playing videos games.

2.If you don’t want to swicht providers then to bad.Cry about it to your provider not us.

Also, there are people on prepaid plans with expensive phones, so I don’t know what they mean by “prepaid phone”
