They do. Im sorry you never get them, but it means something when you have a gold medal, and even more when you have multiple. So no im not going to switch off tracer to counter the pharah, when hog can go dva or the other dps can go mei. If i have 2 or more gold medals it clearly means im the best person currently on the team. Why would i stop doing everything right just because my team makes a bad suggestion?
(The only exception being a gold Elim moira. Dont be that guy)
I mean
If you have gold dmg as sombra and your DPS is mccree
Something’s wrong
BUT
if sigma has gold dmg and the DPS are sombra Mei, then duh
Or gold healing as zen and your other hero is moira. Its rarely on the person with the medals
Corrected. Unless it’s objective kill + healing done.
Depends. I was on comp as Ana a while ago. Stopped a lot of ults by sleeping people, made a lot of game changing nanos. However, because the other healer had gold and not me, I was called useless lol
They really dont.
Stats dont matter without context.
If the team needs a pharah counter, that’s 100% up to one of the two DPS to counter that or else the team fails.
Did you team lose? Well, there we go, we found the problem, the DPS of the team failed the team. Whether it was you, or the other DPS.
The problem is right there. If you won? then it worked out!
So someone could say you’re the best person to get that Pharah out of the air?
Then keep your gold medal and take the loss.
I rather have a win than a gold medal.
You can be the worst player on the team and still get a gold medal. You can have the most kills but also the most deaths. No one will know you are feeding the whole game just because you got a gold medal.
It’s easy to farm a gold medal while ignoring your team or what needs to be done to win.
Gold medal don’t win matches.
I can get multiple gold’s if I ignore me team and just play deathmatch all game. Doesn’t mean anything if we lose.
That’s why we need a real scoreboard.
this is why hiding stats is terrible.
grats on having gold elims with 4 while the phara on the other team has 20 and wins. you did great.
Without context - no. They do not matter.
The one and only thing that matters the most - impact. It’s not a statistical thing and can’t be measured in numbers. But this is the only thing that can help you change the tide of the match.
You can be the best at countering pharah even as Junkrat or Torb. It just depends on your skill, which equals your impact on the match. It’s just sometimes harder to get on some heroes on certain situations of the match. Sure, you can go Junk and try to snipe pharah with grenades, but it would be easier done as other long range hitscan heroes.
With that said, gold medals might show your impact on the match, but without any context, they lose their value. You can have gold medal for damage as Sombra just because you EMPd their lucio beat. But it doesn’t show your actual damage to them. It just shows how much number of their additional health changed. Oh! And you might even have gold kills as Moira. But even though, all you were doing is just throwing an orb into a group of people and tickled them for 20 damage then got the credit for kill.
I would say it’s only 50%
Tank can go dva for a 25% and support can go ana/Moira for the other 25%
Gold Medals only really matter IN CONTEXT.
If I have Gold healing on Zen when we have a Moira, that sounds bad. But what if I now told you our Tanks were just that good at keeping us safe that Moira had nothing to heal that I couldn’t get to first? It’s not so bad then.
Or if Mei has gold damage. She could just be a stupidly good at Mei or she’s just spamming into the enemy Tanks while everyone else gets bodied by the DPS.
Context is important.
The best thing about picking pharah is the team falls apart in terms of comp usually.
They start with Rein / Zarya / Mei / Reaper / Moira / Brig
Some full blown meta comp, then you pick Pharah and now they have some trash comp that most people can’t play great like
Rein / D.VA / McCree / Widowmaker / Mercy / Baptiste
switch the whole team just to counter a pharah (or pharah-mercy)
At higher levels even pharah-mercy do so well that people switch and still can’t kill it. According to overbuff (not super accurate but all we got), at masters, pharah holds a 56.85% win rate, highest of all DPS (including defense/symmetra).
The win rate is high but not because they can’t kill the pharah, it’s because they switch their comp up so dramatically that once they kill the pharah, they now have to kill with a comp that doesn’t do well to things that’s not pharah.
If I get zero support, I tell the tanks to go Dva and leave it at that. They can have fun in the 2v1 if they want. I am not going to take any part in that, though. Well… If they get toxic. I do not mind the challenge if my worthless team keeps their mouth shut.
I’m a support main, usually I switch to mercy to counter pharah-mercy, usually pocketing a McCree / Widowmaker at this point, etc.
Just my personal thing I do against Pharah-mercy comps.
The actual smart thing to do is not switch whole comps up or switch to hitscan (unless you’re really good with hitscan) but to switch to pharah-mercy on your team as well and mirror match it.
if you think that you are one of the best in the team, why not help your team dealing with the best of the other team?.
I got gold heals as Roadhog thrice in the past (in comp). Can you blame my pick?
I get them all the time, mostly on Tank and Support…
I am usually already on hitscan. But I will swap to a flanker A$AP if anyone questions why I am somehow not killing Pharah in a duel. First of all, they do not even understand how to counter Pharmercy. You do not kill Pharah. That is pointless. You kill the Mercy. So I already know they are stupid which makes me lose respect for them regardless. I do not like going out of my way for stupid people.
I digress, if I see an Ana pocketing a tank who is pretending that Pharah does not exist… I just lose the will to try anyways. I need a mental reset just to decide not to throw.
I will stay hitscan if I randomly get a pocket. But do you know how many times people like you actually helped me? Twice. Once was a toxic Mercy pretending I could not land shots, but whatever, we got it done because they stayed on me. No damage boost either. Not that I need it, because I can aim. I would rather have the heals, so they helped even though I am not sure they wanted to.
The other one was an angel. Great healer before they brought out the Pharah. She was really nice too.
Without assistance, I am more likely to kill Pharah as a Tracer/Genji/Doom if my team ignores me because I am no longer being hard focused. Real talk.
