YES Gold medals MATTER

Guys come on, I’m moira and I have 4 gold Medals what are the dps doing?

U should say “context matters”, but saying it in black & white is sure to not divide opinions right?

they should just remove medals entirely OR keep them but allow us to see everyones medals after the round.

Yeah I just know that people like to put unrealistic pressure on DPS players if dealing with a 1v2 situation “McCree, kill the pharah!” when the pharah is pocketed by mercy, 1v2… so I try to (support) the DPS. But yeah, cool story I guess lol sounds about right.

No it doesn’t… It just means you have the highest X. At the end of the match you’re just as bad as every other loser on your team.

Bingo. As to what, who knows. It could be…

Unless their an exceptional widow they aren’t taking down that Pharah if they’re being supported by a good Mercy/Ana/Zen. Also the Tank has no impact on what the Pharah does outside briefly block some damage.

You’re absolutely free to pick whatever you want, but you’re actively choosing not to deal with whatever the problem the team is facing than your kinda just cutting your nose off to spite your face. If your ok with taking the loss fair enough (I’ve played plenty of Zarya alongside Mr Insta Hog/Ball), but don’t try and justify it by trying to make up some nonsense about the medals.

Gold medals legit mean nothing out of context.

That tank that’s bragging about having gold elims and is trashing that Widow on their team might not realize that eventhough the Widow doesn’t have many kills, the enemies she’s taking out have more impact on the fight than the actual amount of people she’s killed. If she can take out that support in the back so the other DPS and the tank can go in then she’s just as valuable to the team, eventhough she doesn’t have a gold medal.
Gold damage is quite literally the most useless stat as well, damage means nothing if it’s just spammed into the enemies. Ironically enough, a match in which your team has low stats is better than the one with high stats because it means you know who to kill, when to kill, when to back off and when to go on.

All of these people act like they do not understand why dps do what they do. I am just providing insight. And they never want to hear it. Obviously you are not the problem if you actually help. I was just piggy backing off of you because it was more relevant to my point.

If people want hitscan to stay on hitscan and/or win the match-up, even the odds. Pharah does not lose that MU to any hitscan nearly as hard as people pretend. Widow is the hardest for her to deal with, but also the easiest to dive bomb.

Hitscan is not an “I win” solution to Pharah. Maybe if you run double hitscan. But if you have two of them and Pharah is still dominating, even the most inept tanks or supports finally start helping. So it is kind of a non issue.

It depends the hero, the composition and the situation.

It’s the easiest thing in the world to get full golds with Soldier or bastion if there’s basic communication in the team. The reason? It’s impossible not to be able to deliver a single shot on the target of focus to get +1 elim and you have much more survivability than most of the dps.

However, neither of those heroes can win you a fight realistically. Bastion needs babysitting, while soldier can be outhealed if the tank or the other dps do not help.

What about a widow that converts every single fight to a 5v6 with an entry kill? She is much more valuable than a soldier, but she’s never going to get any gold if she doesn’t focus the wrong targets (i.e. tanks). A good widow is the one that one shots supports and dps, not the one that headshots a hog at full health.

If you’re consistently getting multiple golds and still losing, vod reviews are an excellent way to review what you’re doing wrong and improve. (Note: Until 4400 or so, you are doing it at least partially wrong. No exceptions.) Perhaps your kills are on non vital fights away from the main battle. Perhaps they’re harassment kills after your team has lost the fight and need to regroup. Perhaps it’s just that nothing is dying because of a lack of total DPS.

why would they switch to mei to counter phara lol? i dont think you know what you’re talking about

WRONG! You’re the best person on your team regardless of medals, PunkySpotato! You shouldn’t switch because you’re actually carrying, and the only reason some schlubs on your team have all the medals is because they’re getting lucky hits in.

because that pharah is annoying every other person on your team so they can not do anything about it.

Overwatch is a team based game. Having all the gold medals and then complaining about your team is gettig you nowhere but losing the game.
You can’t just take a 6man on your own. You should rather think about, what’s the reason your team mates don’t have these gold medals?

…And no, it’s not because they are bad. They are the same skill as you are.

You are a Lucio, and have gold healing, but not the ana?
Look at the ana. When she is dying all the time, it’s not her fault. Try peeling your ana. This is how you have to think.

By your scenario, I think you are wrong. The pharah holds your whole team back, so you can not push to the payload. Tank’s stuck protecting everyone and healers are too much under pressure by pharah.

Technically it means you are the least bad. A gold medal does not tell you how much better you could be doing if you switched, mainly because it doesn’t show that enemy pharah’s damage value being twice as high as your precious tracer’s.

End cards do that. And I often get end cards as long as they do not run some corny Junkrat or something. This ego did not randomly inflate itself. I am the plat elder God of dps.

Diamond kind of humbles me a bit. Just a bit. But I am plat again, I think. So that is basically the least bad of my rank.

I do agree that gold medals matter, but it HIGHLY depends on the context, and which medals. For example, you’re playing main support. your team complains about not getting healing, so you respond with “I have gold healing”. well no duh, you’re competing with one other person, and its an off support. In this case, the medal doesnt matter, but the number does. you cant just say “i have gold” and feel like you said something useful. an example of proper usage, however, would be if youre playing zenyatta, and you have a baptiste, tracer, and genji. youre calling out discords, and everything. you have gold damage AND healing. you definitely have a right to complain here, as you, as a zen, are healing more than bap, and still able to deal more damage than both your flankers. you have been doing your job, AND someone elses job better than they are.

Clearly you havent seen my plat tracer gameplay

Only 4 gold medals as moira and not 5? I am clearly the alpha moira because medals mean everything! Why should I help the team when I can flank, throw damage orbs that tickle the enemy and feed enemy supports, die first and then complain that my dps are bad?

Again, not hard to get gold medal as sombra if you go up against double shield, and the other dps is Mccree.

Anyone who claims gold medals matter is usually a noob. Gold medals are rarely indicative of performance.

In that sort of game though if your Baptiste is bad/struggling or dpsing, you could switch to another healer to help your team more. Maybe you are doing more dps than the dps because they are struggling to survive and both supports have decided that there is nothing they could do to change the outcome of the game.

I agree context matters though. Some people will get excited that they have gold healing on zen forgetting that they just used their ultimate to heal their whole team through a grav/dragon. They could even do more heals if their friendly ana naded the whole team too.
