Yeah, that's not my Phreak

Wild that they manage to fumble such a cool looking character and a cool sounding name all in one go. He looks so lame too, like some All-might action figure knockoff. Don’t even get me started on the animation quality either.

All they had to do was follow the concept art and they would’ve had one of the best looking characters in the game, but even that is too much to ask.

It was never a cool sounding name.

That’s certainly an opinion. A wrong one, but an opinion.

Phreak is leagues better than the generic “Hazard” they went with.

This also seems a somewhat inconsistent opinion.

I was not impressed. The trailer was an ‘into the spiderverse’ knockoff (no epilepsy warning either. Does the art team know how downright awful and dangerous that is?)

But visuals aside: WHY SHOULD I CARE ABOUT THIS CHARACTER??? There was absolutely no narrative hook! I left this teaser with no idea as to who this character was.

It wasn’t that I was ‘left wanting more’, I was left wanting literally anything of substance.

I think what Sassay is getting at is the original concept image we saw vs the final product.

What? You didn’t understand it? Okay, let me clarify.

Uh.

Okay. You ever seen the power rangers movie with the purple ooze that makes everyone stronger?

Yeah. That.

He gets some purple ooze and becomes stronger. I think.

Edit: now that I think about it, did the purple ooze make people stronger? I don’t remember. Something about purple ooze though. That’s the story.

Meh. Phreak sounds too much like someone trying too hard to be different. The name an emo attention hoor would give themselves. Hazard sounds much cooler to me. Though I agree he looks lame, also like they tried too hard to make him look cool but ended up with a Fortnite-looking reject. :woman_shrugging:t4:

Lol, thank you for the elaboration. I feel enlightened.

I’m not entirely sold on ‘I put the mcguffin into me’ counting as character development. They’re really hurting from a lack of narrative driven development on Team 4. But I guess that’s what happens when one guts their creative team.

From what I gather he decided from a name and some spray paint what the hero should look and act like and is now disappointed that the hero is not that.

I think he’s hot,but they should’ve definitely kept the green mohawk.

Hazard is just a word. Like venture’s name was bad but hazard comes across worse

You can scream “Phreak” so much better than “Hazard”, that’s my only gripe so far

Yup… the lore handling has been really unfortunate. I’ve just accepted that there really is no story whatsoever and moved on.

the backlash on youtube comments is massive… oh dear… there’s 2 questions to ask:

  1. How can they regain our trust.
  2. How can we regain their trust.

Franchise is losing itself in an endless stream of community distrust, development hell and inevitable financial handbreaks. I think it’s clear now what we can expect going forward.

OW is on the path of turning into Fortnite and loosing it’s identity.
It is still mind boggling how you could squander such a treasure.

Cool sounding name? Phreak was just as lame as Hazard. Sounds like a name a 6-yr old would come up with

Scottish/punk/muscle dude will sell skins I guess

Is not ‘concept art’.

It’s a caricature. It’s also a tiny, tiny icon.

Stop being a negative hater!
Clearly the original image we all saw was concept art, it wasn’t going to be the official look.
Hazard doesn’t even look bad at all.
He’s hawt in his own way.
He’s a good character.
