Win-rate is a useless analysis stat

I like to view it more like “I’ve correctly identified more design features that make it into the game than the entire rest of the player community combined”.

The hard thing to tell for me is what is the objective. It sounds like the the team is striving for an even distribution in pick rate.

I’m not sure how they fathom to adjust win rate for the situations as mentioned of people swap off immediately when not working.

No offense but I don’t know if you noticed but Overwatch isn’t this beloved game. Basically it is only us sadists that have decided to stick with it all this time.

A lot of decisions made by the devs have slowly been killing this game. If you are coming up with similar design features to the devs, I wouldn’t wear it as a badge of honour because I bet the devs don’t.

This 5v5 with role passive idea better be a good one! If Overwatch 2 truly becomes successful and gets all the attention it deserved. I could kiss you and say you are truly a person with genius foresight.

I am skeptical, I think Overwatch has more fundamental issues which will make OW2 follow a very similar path to current Overwatch. I might be wrong. I hope I am wrong.

It’s shouldn’t be the corner stone to build on either. Win rates will depend on what your opponents are using, what your team is using and who is using what character. I may be a tank main playing dps and that would throw the numbers off. All matches were also QP. Who takes those serious??

Yup, GOATs could have been avoided.

❌ OWL could disallow GOATs if needed

And I spent like 400 hours trying to figure out how to fix Tanks and Role Queue. And 5v5 is way better than the other 2-to-4 options I ended up with.

That said, I do think Quickplay should be a mode with midgame Role Switching, but a maximum of 1Tank/2DPS.

So that Quickplay is actually Quick, without allowing for UltraGOATs.

Im talking historically pal. They historically are terrible at using stats to do anything. Remember how long Brig 1.0 went unfixed even though she was picked at like 95 percent in GM?

You know stuff like that seems obvious to me and you, I have wondered why a similar feature hasn’t already been implemented. QP by no means is quick and it seems like a quick solution that would improve queue times but I guess the devs have their reasons. Hopefully not incompetence.

Heck, I figure they should also implement a DPS-only mode. Possibly with competitive SR.

Maybe only with symmetrical KotH/Push maps, or make some new game mode:

Or maybe copy the 5CP style maps from TF2

The funny thing is that it would probably be an immensely popular gamemode but I think it goes against the devs philsophy. They have an image of what Overwatch should be and will refuse to stray too far from it, even at their own detriment.

I understand it to an extent but it is a sure fire way to kill the game in the long run. You need to cut away what doesn’t work and keep what does.

5v5 seems to be in the right direction to me, maybe in OW2 they will be a little more open to different gamemodes.

I’d argue it fits with the philosophy, because they are trying to drain out excess DPS players without getting rid of role queue.

A mode like this enhances queue speeds for role queue

that’s the scary part with blizzard

I agree that win-rate is often used too seriously as a stat to justifying people stating “this hero is too powerful” or “this hero is too weak” when most of the time said hero is simply used wrongly (or with weak synergies with other heroes).

Moreover, depending on the team you’re matched with, your win-rate can decrease because of other players as it takes 6 players to have an impact on said win-rate (and sometimes even boosting it if you team carries you hard).

I wouldn’t go as far as saying win-rates are useless but I agree that it is ineffective in showing the strength of a hero if we rely on that very stat only. Most people on the forums use win-rates to try and validate their biases towards specific heroes but I think most of them don’t even get what they’re talking about… but that’s a common thing in here (oftentimes it’s just them parrotting streamers or pro players) :man_shrugging:
