SLANG TERMS AND UNOFFICIAL TERMINOLOGY
Aimbot (Cheating)
Terminology - An unauthorized third-party program designed to automate controls for a player to instantly aim at opponents. Use of such programs will result immediate severe disciplinary actions including full account closure of all related accounts.
Aimbot (Tactical Visor)
Slang Term - A slang term for Solider: 76’s Tactical Visor
Area on Effect (AOE)
Terminology - Refers to an action such as dealing damage or providing healing to the surrounding area from the point of emission.
Away from Keyboard (AFK)
Slang Term - A slang term for being inactive in the game or the menus.
2-2-2
Team Composition - A team composition that consists of typically two DPS, 2 Tanks, and 2 Healers intended as a balanced formation for most combat situations but can be easily exploited with unorthodox strategies.
Backcap
Slang Term - A slang term of the act of a player inflitrating past enemy defenses and succesfully capture an objective point or push the payload to the checkpoint or destination without being noticed.
Baiting
Terminology - Mindgaming the enemy in order to make them do certain things that benefit your team and harm theirs (eg. Making someone waste ult, overextending and kiting back so you punish kill chasers, etc).
Beyblade
Slang Term - The combination of Ana’s Nano Boost ultimate and Reaper’s Death Blossom ultimate.
Boop
Slang Term - The act of using Crowd Control abilities to displace players of the enemy team. Mostly effective booping includes launching players into pits or off of cliffs.
Boosting
Slang Term - The act of deliberately attempting to manipulates another player’s skill rating to increase ranks in Competitive with minimal or no effort from that player either through grouping up or account sharing.
Buff
Slang Term - The act of a balance change to a hero in a recent patch that is perceived to make the hero more viable in the game.
C9
Slang Term - A slang term of the act of when the attacking team is successful in defeating the defending team but fails to resume control of the objective causing the round to end.
Counter
Slang Term - The act of playing a hero or strategy that is designed to make an opposing hero or strategy ineffective in the match.
Crowd Control (CC)
Terminology - An ability or effect that manipulates a hero’s movement. For example Pharah’s concussive blast moves either herself or any of her opponents when detonated in a direction outward from the blast.
Damage per Second (DPS)
Terminology - An unofficial statistic to measure the rate of damage over time.
Dive Comp
Team Composition - A team composition that consist of mobile and fast moving heroes designed to eliminate a specific hero (usually a healer) as fast as possible in order to win the team fight.
DPS or Damage Hero
Hero Class - An unofficial classification to designate any hero who deals primary deals damage to other heroes.
Deathball
Team Composition - A team composition and strategy intended to move toward an objective or target in a tight formation and deal eliminations as quickly as possible.
Feeding
Slang Term - The act of deliberately dying to opponents by engaging them in a no-win scenario.
Fill
Slang Term - The act to select any hero the team requests in a team composition even if that hero is not to that player’s ability.
Flex
Slang Term - The ability to select a hero a player perfers that balances the team composition.
Griefing
Terminology - The act of deliberately harming another player’s experience in any online video game for personal entertainment or intent.
Grouping Up
Slang Term - The act of retreating and regrouping with all members of your own team.
Headshot
Slang Term - A slang term for dealing damage to the critical hitbox of an opponent which deals double damage.
Healing per Second (HPS)
Terminology - An unofficial statistic to measure the rate of healing over time.
Hidden Matchmaking Rating (MMR)
Terminology - A term for the actual statistic that control the player’s skill rating in each game mode of Overwatch.
Indirect buff
Slang Term - The act of a balance change to a hero in a recent patch that makes another hero more viable without the intent of “buffing” that hero.
Indirect nerf
Slang Term - The act of a balance change to a hero in a recent patch that makes another hero less viable without the intent of “nerfing” that hero.
Insta-locking
Slang Term - The act of selecting a hero immediately without a second thought.
Kill/Death Ratio
Statistic - An unofficial comparison to how many eliminations the player has in comparison to their own deaths.
Main
Slang Term - A primary hero that a player perfers to play. Not synonymous with “one-trick.”
Nanoblade
Slang Term - The combination of Ana’s Nano Boost ultimate and Genji’s Dragonblade ultimate.
Nanovisor
Slang Term - The combination of Ana’s Nano Boost ultimate and Solider: 76’s Tactical Visor ultimate.
Nerf
Slang Term - The act of a balance change to a hero in a recent patch that is perceived to make the hero less viable in the game.
One Trick
Slang Term - A slang term to describe a player who only plays one hero exclusively in the game regardless of consequence. Not synonymous with “main.”
OTP
Slang Term - One Trick Pony. See One Trick.
Peel
Slang Term - Peeling is the process of protecting your vulnerable teammates by removing threats.
Pick
Slang Term - An instance an elimination has the ability to instigate a team fight where that team now has the advantage.
Reset
Slang Term - The end of a team fight where one team must regroup after losing that team fight.
Slambulance
Team Composition - A quaduruple tank formation and strategy intended to move onto the objective point as fast as possible and engage the opponents directly on the objective point.
Smurf
Slang Term - The act of own an alternate account for the purpose of deliberately playing at a rank below that player’s true skill level in the game.
Stacked Ultimates
Slang Term - The act of using two ultimates together.
Stream Sniping
Slang Term - The act of monitoring a player’s live stream of a video game in attempt grief their gameplay.
Tactical Suicide
Slang Term - The act of deliberately falling off the map or feed into the enemy for the purposes of grouping up faster, not griefing.
Tanking
Slang Term - The act of deliberately attempting to manipulates one’s own skill rating to drop down to lower ranks in Competitive.
Tick
Slang Term - The 33.3% mark of an Assault Percentage meter. Once capture percentage reaches that mark, it cannot be lost.
Team Comms
Slang Term - See Team Voice Chat.
Team Fight
Slang Term - The instance where both teams engage each other during the course of a match.
Throw
Slang Term - The act of deliberately attempting to lose the match.
Trash Kill
Slang Term - An instance an elimination has zero impact toward winning the team fight or getting an elimination when the team fight is already lost.
Triggerbot (Cheating)

Triple Tank
Team Composition - A team composition that consists of typically three tanks, 1 DPS, and 2 Healers intended for brawling or close quarter combat.
Ultimate Advantage
Slang Term - An instance where one team has more ultimates to use versus the opponents.
Ultimate Economy
Slang Term - The ability to maintain an ultimate advantage over the opponents over the course of the game.
Wallhacks (Cheating)
Terminology - An unauthorized third-party program designed to manipulate the textures of the game and reveal the location of opponents. Use of such programs will result immediate severe disciplinary actions including full account closure of all related accounts.

Wombo Combo
Slang Term - Pairing of two key Ultimate abilities with the intent of wiping out most of the enemy team, such as a Zayra Graviton Surge and a Tracer Pulse Bomb.
