I’m GM tracer/sombra probably high master/low GM other characters
But my widow is like lowkey plat tier probably. I can destroy in widow FFA my flicks clean but I just cannot hit these AD strafes against like soldier for example.
I either hit everything because I flick and hit or miss quite literally everything because strafes.
and try to hit targets that don’t know you’re shooting at them.
this is the difference between easy and hard shots. see surefores aim turtorial for that
Don’t try and become an expert marksman, become an expert opportunist.
Become fast and dangerous- at selecting and discovering opportune (easy) kills.
Be quick about finding a surprise angle on that Ana or brig and delete them.
There are two types of powerful snipers- those with deadly aim, and those with deadly strategy. An effective sniper frequently attacks from an unknown, changing angle. That’s why she has a grapple. It’s a poor, lengthy escape, but that 12 second is about the max you should spend shooting from one angle before it becomes ineffective.
Also consider the map. Map knowledge is huge for a sniper. Know the layout, and study your enemy. Learn their habits so you can predict and position to capitalize on their (planned) ignorance.
A good widow doesn’t necessarily have to have god aim, if she just finds opportune picks. That’s more than enough, and it’s just as effective.
Well. Unless you’re a potato and can’t hit unaware targets who aren’t strafing non stop. In which case just practice Lol.
You play YATFFA right (If not that’s better than Widow HS lobbies tbh)? The Widows in it and High Elo all just let people run into their crosshair then pull the trigger, crazy flick shots are cool and all, but there is consistency in simplicity. Just work on base crosshair placement and get your hours on her up. Cuz Widow Duels are a hell of a lot easier to hit the shots in than almost anyone AD crouch spamming lol.
the mistake ppl make is they flick way more then they should. there is actually a streamer/youtuber that can help you alot with this.
arrge. he has an aiming series that explains how to aim better as hanzo but some of it can be applied too widow.
tl;dr, aim at ppl who are unaware of your existence or dont think you are going to shoot them, change position if you have too. take your time to aim your shot. stand still when you fire
I would recommend widow for DM. It’s not going to be pretty, but it might improve your skill with the rifle in case you’re caught at close quarters which you will be eventually. Defense gives an opportunity to set up your sniping position before the match begins. Also, no matter what happens, it’s best to try to remain calm. Sniping is more difficult if you get upset. Good luck and happy hunting!
I don’t really understand how it works I see people do it, what if they kill me before they run into that spot or they’re just strafing the other way.
Just change where I’m holding until they walk into it?
I’m in a decent rank so the strafe patterns are pretty good and I’m not really used to playing characters like Widow so I’m kind of trash at this kind of thing.
so its a bit predictive but if your playing widow realistically speaking most ppl shouldnt be able to kill you half as fast as you can kill them.
you need to land 1 shot to the head, they might need to land 2 shots even with 175 hp so you still have that goin for you. this gives you time to aim and kill them, how much will depend on if the person is pre-aiming your location and the hero they are playing.
but its generally better to just not shoot at someone thats a-d strafing, but if you are going to shoot at them you do placed shots (you let em walk into your crosshair) with maybe a tiny micro flick. the larger you flick the less consistent it’ll be, micro flicks are fine. its just a matter of practice.
but widow is like 50/50 aim and positioning.
the way that i learned it, was that you have “hard shots” and “easy shots”, hard shots are basically big flicks you typically only need to do either for style points or because you are being very hard focused and have 0.1 second to fire between shots else you die. these shots are very inconsistent and it makes the player very streaky.
while easy shots are the much slower and methodical shots that give you consistency during most of the match. these shots can be taken when you are not directly being fired at and being threatened.
so the idea is too need to take as few hard shots (but to be able to take them when needed) as possible so you can land those easy shots and win. swapping your angle can help alot with this since if they dont see where you are you can keep em guessing.
imagine you are playing widow in gold, you arnt afraid of them killing you so you take your time and go 50-0 and hard stomp. you do the exact same thing against really good players but you simply have a much lower window for “taking your time”, but the best widows are used too that pacing and can aim very accurately very quickly.
if you are playing widow v widow, the last thing you want to do is ego peak. if you think the widow is holding the angle to kill you then you dont peak and you instead swap position and hope you either hit the shot or they miss the flick. if you want to push yourself you can infact try to peak it but…your in GM and your going to get queued up with some very nasty widow players.
so an example of this would be something like
you are playing widow and you peak and get a kill but a soldier starts shooting you while strafing. his movement is really good so you aim to his left and he predicts you and moves right. so you back out and if you are full hp and healthy you can repeak and try again maybe you predict him this time and he dies. but lets say he doesnt, so you back out and you swap your angle, now he has no idea where you are so he cant strafe you. and boom, he dies. this fight all happened in the span of 5-10 seconds and you killed 2 people.
sometimes you just have to get into the head of the enemy, the soldier in this scenario could kill you if you peaked long enough so you backed out when he didnt make it easy for you so that you wernt needlessly risking anything.
in a perfect world you would never shoot a strafing target because hitting good movement is kinda impossible without landing a nutty shot. but we dont live in a perfect world
