Widowmaker mains (Help)

Yeah I really need to improve on these things I’m really too dependant on Flanker type DPS.

Genji, Echo, Tracer, Sombra somewhat Hanzo and Cassidy/Ashe but only when I’m absolutely forced to

If Cassidy and Ashe were my only viable heroes I’d probably only be low masters cass and ashe are alot easier for me than Widow though lol if widow was the only hero I could play I’d go straight down to low diamond maybe plat.

ah see i was the opposite.

i was widow, cass and soldier. then after ashe was released her as well lol

so i basically never flanked and i only ever focused on ranged hitscans and mechanics+positioning.

ive grown tired of that so now im learning and climbing support lol

I used to be alot better at probably high Masters instead of low masters for hitscan but I’ve almost completely neglected hitscan type aim so my skill level on those characters has decreased so much.

=====================

I’ve been playing alot of tank recently ramattra fun as heck try him same with the winton when you’re playing crazy

honestly your aim will come back its just a matter of getting used too it. tracer/sombra aim at a different range then the normal hitscans and really they’ll also use there own movement to aim alot more then someone shooting at 15-20m which is where the disconnect usually is.

also, winton.

I feel like every DPS player who gets to Masters+ mostly playing Flankers eventually realizes just how much they need to expand their hero pool because of how limited Flankers truly are in spite of the forum opinion. I essentially one tricked Tracer (with a small peppering of Cass) once I picked her up in OW1, which came back to bite me extremely hard when Rally got added to the game. I picked up Widow for a small period, then mostly quit playing the game because I was too bored and felt forced to play her.

Since coming back in OW2 though I’ve severely expanded my hero pool on the DPS side of things. It’s actually kind of silly now that I think about it, in OW1 I could play more of the Support roster than I could the DPS roster. Now the only DPS I don’t really like to play is Mei. >_>

Pretty crap advice in my experience. Every time I would do this, they wouldn’t walk into my crosshair and would just walk further left or right.

I found what helped me was tracking enemies and then doing small flicks to their heads.

I’m not an amazing widow at all but that tip I gave provided instant results.

  1. If there is an enemy Widowmaker never give away your location. Always go off angles.
  2. AD spam is the hardest thing to hit. Aim for the middle, or aim for a different target completely. Or grapple shot to get to the head.
  3. Pre-aim at areas before you peek. Pull the trigger when you see red. (Especially with ultimate. I won so many Widow vs Widow dual due to this.)

Yeah that works in plat, not in gm.

Well no one will ever just conveniently walk into my crosshair and I doubt that’s going to change regardless of rank

Also, I got this tip from watching Kenzo watch someone else’s gameplay and comment on how their aim is good because they do this.

Create an alt widow one trick account and play nonstop until you hit your target skill level.

Its good advice and I would totally do it if not for the phone requirement…

yes, that’s what they’re going to do.
of course you have to turn on your brain and think about where your opponent is going next.
simply blindly aiming somewhere is of course of no use.
and I mean, you yourself say you’re not a top widow player, several widow mains give this tip here and also, believe that it was the case, surefore also gives this tip in his video.
so there will probably be something to it.

that was the one that played widow in plat for years right?

In my experience, I wait for a moment, they don’t walk into my crosshair, then I have to flick to them before I die. And the whole point of that technique is to avoid relying on lucky flicks.

This tracking method does kind of wait for them to walk into your crosshair, but if they don’t walk to it exactly then you just do a flick. And since you’re tracking them, there is less of a chance that you will have to do a wide flick to them.

Sitting there with your crosshair in the middle of their strafe just does not work most of the time for me. I do think it depends on how far away from you they are though, as well as how wide their strafe is. I’m just saying what helped me aim better. My aim still needs training but in just a day or two of doing the method I described, I was landing headshots more frequently when doing aim warm ups and this carried over to the game as well.

The thing about aim training is you need to be consistent. I haven’t been so I can’t tell you if this works extremely well or not, but I do know that I got fast results.

How about you don’t abuse widowmaker thinking you are cool thanks.

Well sometimes you have to use widowmaker on maps like Havana otherwise you just get diffed by their widowmaker.

You also cannot call yourself a truly good player if you can’t play widow, like most OWL players can probably play widow and tracer quite well.

For me I normally play sombra to go against widow but in GM it just doesn’t work sometimes because they get peeled, pocketed etc.

So you have to rely on organized dives and it just doesn’t happen sometimes.

Also ironic considering you seem to like roadhog quite abit based on your post history.

If widow ever gets nerfed enough I’ll have no reason to learn her but untill then I have to play her because shes almost in every game.

I have over 1,000 hours with widow. She’s the only hero i play. But, haven’t played since october so lol

Practice.

There’s no quick magic formula. Everyone improves at different rates.

Play other shooters. Focus on all types of shots. From no scope, quick scope, strafe tracking, corner peeking, and so on.

Know your Widow dmg math.

It ain’t always about getting that max charge. Sometimes just need enough for chip damage body shot to assist in finishing up off an enemy.

Breath and don’t get frustrated by a miss. Take your time.

Aim ain’t the most crucial skill for Widow, communication is. You got the layout be the tes eyes ears. If you can scare or bait the enemy to a section where your team can flank them go for it.

Some matches if you don’t have it or the enemy is not giving you sight lines ain’t no shame switching to Ashe, McCree, Soldier, Sojourn or whatever dps.
