Why unlock FPS to 400 when no GPU can match (SOLVED)

No GPU on the market can maintain 360fps stable. I have a Nvidia 3090, 7700k @5.0Ghz, and RAM DDR4-4266MHz. With this I can just barely hold 240Hz stable. I hope OW2 has a lighter engine because the new 360Hz monitors have zero purpose for this game as it stands.

Edit: Turns out Overwatch can take advantage of more than 4 cores.

I9-10900k should do it at low settings.

2bh, this game is too poorly optimized for both systems and competitive play. I was actually wondering if the engine was the reason why the original titan failed to deliver and we got this salvaged product.

That said, it’s more likely that the CPU is the bottleneck than GPU for this game, so…well, get a server spec PC to play this I guess.

But can’t that only do 5.3Ghz all cores? I don’t think OW can even make use of more than two cores at most?

Not sure. Have you tried 50% render scale?

Yeah, it didn’t seem to have any effect unfortunately. I’ll try that again. Yeah for sure. I’m getting like 30% GPU utilization at most.

It should be capped at 9,000fps

I’ve seen OW populating all of my 12 threads. Not only Overwatch makes good use of multiple cores, but it’s also one of the few games that can use virtual threads.

Well, one of the main reasons they put a “2” to this being a sequel instead of a DLC is that they were doing a major overhaul of the graphics engine. Hopefully it’ll be better.

7700k is no match to any modern CPU lol even $200 ones.
And OW is heavily-cpu performance depended.

Get rid of that ancient technology.

I assume you’re talking 1080p, in which case your cpu is actually the problem. That things 3.5+ years old now and despite decent clocks the ipc gains in that time have been significant. If you’ve got the money for a 3090, no reason you shouldn’t be upgrading your entire pc from that 7700 to actually make the most of the gpu.

I sit right around 400fps on low settings 1440p with a 3080 and 5800x. As others have said, its a cpu bound game.

I dont really understand why people say this. OW is easily one of the most optimized game engines I’ve seen.

Server CPUs perform very bad in games.

Laughs in not considering that as a working game

Well that comes to my ignorance, my apologies.

I’d say game like this usually don’t let CPU handle most of the workload?

360 sounds like over kill for this game.

It is… Higher fps to reduce your input lag can only go so far. I’m betting over 240 can’t even be noticed let alone any better.

People who rely on higher FPS to try to get better aren’t going to get better. Look at the pros, they are fine at 144 or 240 tops.
