I had multiple games yesterday where a diamond/gold duo ruined the match for everyone else. It’s a: the gold being carried, b: the diamond being boosted, c: the rest of us being dragged down.
Not only is the gold being carried, but the diamond is boosted too meaning BOTH are manipulating the matchmaker for gain. The Diamond gets to play against plats and get more SR because they get easier games. They keep climbing in Diamond, while their opponents are averaging lower than diamond.
Meanwhile I as a diamond tank have to make up for the gold and the plats the matchmaker burped up because of the manipulation of this duo.
One thing that excites me about 5v5 and OW2, both having a larger population and better mix of tanks and other roles in queue, I think matchmaking will be better. In solo queue. But as soon as people start duoqueuing with people 1000 SR below them, that benefit would go out the window. So I would hope the SR span will be lowered along with the better queue times not necessitating such a huge spread.
I think there still should be a way to by-pass this sr restriction, people will anyways want to play with their friends. Playing as a 6-stack should ignore all SR restrictions and/or there should be an actual unranked gamemode
Imo its straight up boosting. the max rank difference should never be over one rank above or below, with max sr 300 to keep a competitive integrity. Usually its the smurf which is getting pocketed by a Mercy. Another fail from Blizzard to not minimize the gap between queuing players.
As much as I hate the 1000SR bracket for people queuing together and understand how badly it busts the game up, I’d never be able to play with any of my friends without it.
Why do you think the only possible reasons people play together have to do with their rank and ignore the obvious answer: people play together because they enjoy playing together.
There was a group of 6 people in South America that would queue up during off hours. Because there were no other 6 stacks playing, the game would match them with solo players. The 6-stack would just crush the pugs.
In OW2, a diamond can play PVE with their gold friends. I see no legitimate reason not to require stacks to do some soloqueuing for ranking up, and yeah to have to catch up with their friends before they can queue with them again. That’s all reducing the spread means, that some times if your friend falls too far behind they’ll have to roll up their sleeves and soloqueue to catch up.
I mean, what’s the problem with this? Did they reach ranks top 1-6? In the end that 6 stack won’t beat the best in the world. If they do then they deserve it.
Team rank queue would also be answer for this, people could get their tank from how good their team/clan does against other teams. Or a tournament mode like in league of legends would be great.
This is one of the biggest reasons why players make smurf accounts. People always want to play with their friends. One of the solutions to this would be to make playing as a full 6-stack ignore sr restictions.
And yeah OW comp is the only game mode, where you can play the full game. Unranked mode is missing compeletely, QP is not unranked as you can’t guarantee a KOTH map
i have no idea what you’re talking about. QP is unranked. if you think people smurfing to queue with their friends 2000 SR below them is going to convince me that 1000 SR range is small enough, it won’t. that just convinces me that not only should queuing with people that far away from you be made harder, but rankings should be soloqueue only so these people get catapulted past their friends and waste their money.
anyways
they just need to fix this 1000 sr thing
its dumb
crank it down to 500 or make it so if your bronze you can only que with silvers, silvers only que with bronze or golds not both golds only silvers or plats
etc etc
oops just accidentally deleted this
anyways
I think outside of grouping you can keep the infinite range to try and help people get games but just know
when you put diamonds in gold games, nobody is having fun
gold players are getting rolled and diamond players are playing people way below their skill level
That’s the most notorious example, but the actual reason that GMs can’t stack anymore is because early in the OWL league’s first season, teams would six stack and “practice” on ladder, mashing all the GMs they could match up against. It got to the point where people would tell their friends as soon as they saw an OWL stack and suddenly t500 was a ghost town, because even t500s like fair matches.
