What is the point of having only 3 regions to pick from if every other time I login I have a random chance of randomly being assigned to some 300ms ping sub region and other games I have 90ms, all in one session. Logging in and out works 1/10 times MAYBE. I only play in EU and half my games is literally unplayable at random.
Why cant Blizzard just add sub region options to the game like any other game and then you can pick the most stable one that shows you the ping status in ms to that server BEFORE you search for a game where you end up of no use to your team and its a waste of time for everyone at no fault of your own, this is system design issue, A MASSIVE ONE- DO YOU NOT THINK LATENCY IS ONE OF THE MOST IMORPTANT OPTIONS TO PROVIDE TO YOUR PLAYER BASE??
Let me give you another example of how terrible this region auto-picking is.
I can choose the EU region, then I can get assigned to a server in UAE, which is in a whole other damn actual region and COUNTRY - completely out of my control, or I can get thrown into actual EU regions, and GOD knows the other random countries or regions I have been thrown into that’s in other countries, but my region is “EU”.
Why can every other game on this planet get server\region selection right except blizzard, does your network and infrastructure team not understand this concept? Do you not learn from successful game companies? Do YOU want more money? Fix your infrastructure Blizzard and you will make more money guaranteed, BECAUSE your player base will actually have a proper experience.
You are probably right about the login server, but I have a suspicious it uses it has bias to make server decisions, I just cant imagine Blizzard being around for more than 20 years, and still not give the user the option to pick servers or sub regions based on their actual connections status.
My suspicion is that they have automatic server scaling function which scales up and down based on demand and it has an algorithm based on how how many players are closest to a dormant server\active server, then it chooses the more cost efficient option and spins up that server or cluster of servers that is closer to the majority of players and rather throw the fewer player to the higher latency server that makes more economically sense for them. I really think this is about greed rather than sheer incompetency and technical capability, but hey you never know. Seems more like a cultural management doctrine being pushed down employees throats.
Employees sees these posts and management rarely does - that’s the sad reality of most of these posts.
I highly doubt, ever other game I play doesn’t have this problem at all - no correlation at all. I am a network engineer and cloud service architect, I have tested my connections when connecting to servers - this is a Blizzard infrastructure design problem for the player base, its a more cost efficient way for them to save money, would be my guess.
Region select does nothing it was removed years ago
we’re on a worldwide server, for soon to be 2 years. I used to play American servers only, but since their changed I am forced to my local region so it made me not enjoy playing competitive anymore. Funny enough one of the slogans for the change was to “meet people from all over the world” or something like that meanwhile it’s region locked by IP lol unless you block those server IPs
Here is the thread, also the devs said they were “looking into” letting us select but it was just an attempt to hush.
I just logged into OW2 after restarting the Blizzard client and I can usually tell from the ping status in the custom games list if I have been moved to some sub region that makes no sense, all off my custom game lobbies are currently in red status and looks like Korean? (Not sure) This usually coincides with my competitive servers also being 300ms +. Completely unplayable, if my custom game lobbies have orange ping my comp server will be playable @ 90ms - 120ms no problem at all. It is the absolute inconsistency that drives me crazy.
Side rant: I wanted to add a link to imgur of a screenshot of my custom lobby, why tf would you have a “insert link” option if you cant post it - wtf blizzard.
