Why is Mystery Heroes still hot garbage 3 years later?

  • Limit roles to 3 max. 4 tanks breaks the game and is an instant-win. There’s a reason we have role queue.
  • I thought Arcade was going to use MMR as well. What happened? Why are literal silvers in my games?
  • I thought MH was limited to 1 of each hero. I saw 2 sigmas in my last game. Was that a bug?

It was never limited in any capacity, other than that you won’t respawn as the hero you just died playing as.

Mystery Heroes can have duplicate heroes, that’s an intended feature. Makes it more chaotic and more “mysterious” considering you can’t use process of elimination to see who you’re not going to get.

There’s actually “Balanced Mystery Heroes” as a developer-made Custom Workshop gamemode, where I believe they limit the amount of certain roles to ensure you don’t end up with cycling between 6 DPS while the enemy has the meta 2/2/2 comp. I much preferred it, though that’s not saying much considering I despise Mystery Heroes as one of my least favorite Arcade modes.

And I don’t know man, I’ve fought against Masters to Top 500s in my Team Deathmatch games while I’m hardstuck gold. Good practice to test my hitscan skills though.

hero stacking needs to go. I know devs were torn about it when bringing it up, but it’s getting old and with some heroes more oppressive than ever, it’s just horrible to have more than one.
I don’t mind not role limit, long as stacking is not there.

Also I want them to remove changing heroes between rounds.
If I survived the round with a hero, or barely changed hero as a round ends, and next screen I’m playing someone else, then Mystery Heroes does not reward me for surviving anymore. Which is the interest of the mode, being rewarded for not getting killed/getting your ult.

Also give us actual random heroes.
Not a predetermined set of heroes the game will give you for your entire play session.

Not true. Without suicide it can still happen. I spawned twice as ana recently.

Back to back, dying to enemy fire rather than your own suicide? If so, it’s bugged, because respawning as the hero you were just killed playing as was removed from the mode years ago. The only way you respawn as the same hero you just died as is if you suicide, and that was left in because folks kept jumping off the map repeatedly until they got a hero they liked, which goes against the spirit of the mode.

I am really really sure that this happened to me in Hanamura defense recently. And I did not jump off. Ana has no way to kill herself otherwise on this map. Strange if you say that they removed this.

I knew that they changec the suicide thing because people killed themselves for their desired hero.

No, they never patched that, its an intended feature. You can respawn as the same hero you were after being killed, but you lose all your ult charge still.

no no no no no no NO

This is the one thing they added that keeps me from ragequitting every KotH map when we get rolled by a stupid cheese comp for the first round

Oh boy this is awkward … this mode works just like it has ever worked and it is the most used in Arcade so yeah, not a “hot garbage” pal:

  • RNG is RNG, if you limit roles you will have sometimes only 7 possible choices so the randomness would make zero sense.
  • Arcade has NEVER had MMR as a priority. They just try to balance the teams on the spot ( to not have 4 masters + 2 GM vs 3 plats and 3 golds for example) but no, you will never see that.
  • Not a bug, working as intended. Thats how MH worked since forever. The “Locked” version or unique hero also takes 5 heroes out of the equation of the RNG. Would be fine if there were like 60 but with 31 nah.

Honestly the only change they need to make is some fine tuning to the last major change they made. The suicide-hero swap prevention should be in a place during the preparation phase and then 30 seconds after every spawn for the rest of the game. What I tend to see more, is people abusing the suicide anti-swap to retain a character when they’re about to lose a point or be killed (very common on Ilios).

But this is also the only thing that prevents anyone from turning the tides.

If I jump to my death or elm myself will it re generate a new hero? Or keep me as that same hero until a opposing player dose me in?

Because it’s one of the most popular modes in the arcade, and the devs don’t want to fix what isn’t broken. Mystery almost always has very short queue times, despite always being available in the arcade.

As long as people keep playing tons of mystery heroes, the devs aren’t going to risk making changes.

No.
You don’t understand
I need my 4 bastion teem.
I need my autobots.

Never heard that.

If you can work together, you can get it. Target one at a time to take them down. It’s how we were able to get hell team (AKA 3 orisas and a bastion) down.

I do have to say, getting actual comps in Mystery Hero is quite fun. Enjoy our accidental bunker on the payload!

Same hero. You can’t suicide yourself until you get a hero you like.

Because for 3 years now blizz has not made the 1 change that the game mode has always needed…

we have replay now…its even easier to notice how impactful it is…it does not work in the game mode…and the fix is REALLY easy

it does have an MMR…the thing is that its its own MMR for THAT game mode…just cause someone is a diamond player in comp doesnt mean theyre ANY good in MH…especially when people only play certain heroes…i generally play against way better rated people on average than i do in comp…im just better at that game mode (most of my time is spent there)

and that hot garbage btw is STILL the best game mode in the game in spite of this

A “balanced” version of mystery heroes exists in the workshop.

Ever wonder why it isn’t popular?
