I complain about all sorts of talentless behavior, and DPS’s dont make it out of that.
Why is one of the most terribly designed abilities still in this game. Mag nade is a failure. No one likes using it, its not satisfying to use, and not a single soul thinks its fair or deserved to be hit by 90% of the time.
Wildly inconsistent and undeserved have to be the two most fitting words for this ability. Sometimes the tracking feels non-existent, other times its capable of making 90+ degree turns or even 180’s to stick on someone 10 meters away, and this is one of the rare times where its not hyperbole. Theres no memes there, thats genuinely what it does. No forum exaggerations.
No one really liked getting hit by Flashbang either but at least it had genuine consistent and obvious counterplay, and made match ups like Cree v Tracer a skill off. Now its just either she blinks and it tracks through it and auto sticks, or it gets 2 feet away from her before she blinks away and it just decides it doesnt want to anymore.
Theres no consistency, its either useless against Tracer most times or overtuned against characters like Doom (as much as I hate Doom, its still not good game design) and there are even cases where mag nade will just go around deflect which is hilarious but disgusting.
So whys it still here 10 seasons later? Its pathetic.

I really dislike moves where all you do is hit the button to get value.
It’s like Sojourn nade, only with slightly higher skill expression: save it if they have a Tracer. Otherwise, you just use both off cooldown.
Because giving the cowboy a lasso is too much of a conceptual stretch, apparently.

If I had to choose between predictable moves that are “press button, get value” or unpredictable ones, Im choosing predictable.
As much as I despise Sojourn for existing, I call her nade better designed than Mag Nade because it at least works the same way every single time without fail.
No guess work goes into how Sojourn nade is gonna work. However every fight with a Cree as a mobile character, or when vs’ing a mobile character is “will this mag nade spaz out or not?” and its genuinely subhuman game design
His literal win-con for so many fights is a coin flip regardless of your skill level, and its absurd

Oh yea, no I know what you mean.
I was mainly stating as if it worked the same way every time. The bugs and unpredictability are separate from the core of the ability, but I probably shouldn’t have ignored them since currently they are so entrenched in how he plays.
But, also, I’m completely biased because I seem to get hit by it all the time no matter what. lmao
Because you guys complained just as hard about Flashbang, so what do you want them to do? Turn every Damage hero into a burst damage machine?
You’d then cry that there’s no variety in playstyles in the Damage role. So, regardless which direction they go, you’ll complain because something doesn’t suit you.

Just give us flashbang back.

I agree. I play a lot of McCree and I absolutely hate this ability.
McCrack definitely doesn’t need a Roadhog hook or ranged projectile Junkrat trap

for the same reason why is sombra stilll allowed on the game. trash team balance
Remove Venture, Tracer, Sombra, Ball, and Doom and mag can go.

OR MAybe dont put trash hero desings like sombra and now you can balance ball and doom?

the reason it exists, is because high mobility heros exist
its not even a “Good” option to stop them… its just better than nothing

Mag Nade is necessary because Blizzard is hellbent on avoiding nerfing high mobility heroes.

Caltrops wouldn’t be a bad shout, just slap em down and prevent the tracer from comming into her kill range
and if genji lands on them, he can’t double jump or dash, etc etc
have them last on the ground for 10 seconds, and people who come into the zone get “Hindered” and can’t use movement abilities

Because it’s good enough, the team can’t work on everything at the same time, and there are heroes with much bigger problems than this
So this is pretty braindead to read- let me just point out that you’re essentially saying “someone will be upset anyway, so why bother”
Which applies to literally any, every, and all changes Overwatch has ever and will ever make. Naturally I dont think you believe Overwatch should just stop changing, so all I can say is never use “youll complain anyway” as an argument ever again. Its beyond stupid, and entirely pointless to say.
And frankly, you dont know me. I never complained about flashbang. And its literally fact that players prefer interacting with consistent predictable things than with coin flips in Overwatch. It quite literally guarantees competitive integrity.
Mag nade is the opposite of consistent and predictable. Neither the Cree nor the enemy can know whats going to happen in large part when this ability is thrown. Its terrible.
Whoever designed it and whoever approved it should probably be fired or at least demoted, its that atrocious. Thats half a joke and half not, because this ability really showcases the design skills of whoever came up with it, and its at a level that should never be allowed.
Literally neither side has a positive experience after mag nade has been used. Its not satisfying for anyone, its inconsistent, and its not even good at what it was designed to do thanks to that level of inconsistency.

that’s how i know you’re exaggerating. any good player knows deflect isnt a front back hitbox it just checks to see if the genji is facing whoever shot him, even if a projectile hits him in the back if the genji is facing whoever shot the projectile it will get deflected.
my actual opinion on mag nade tho is it sucks, they improved it over time but it still sucks, its the reason i stopped playing mccree. it doesnt due the job of flashbang well, it doesnt provide cohesion in his kit, its inconsistent still and was even more inconsistent when it first released, hindered is a rather confusing status on what it stops and doesnt like it doesnt stop coach gun for some reason?? any sort of ability disabling is usually unfun to fight against just like hack. to lessen cc they shouldve just made flash apply the rooted effect rather than stun so it doesnt stop active ults or anything just holds the enemy in place then they could look more into fan the hammer to make it more fun because it just isnt.
this
it’s pretty terrible with the damage nerf that it got by proxy when they increased hp pools
