Good thing those don’t conflict.
If double shield wasn’t a thing I think Sigma would’ve been a popular main tank, he’s quite fun to play.
Why start a real discussion in the “General Discussion” section if you can just write some baseless bs
Just wait. Monkey ball is the tank duo that can destroy Orisa and Simba. It will take time for players to learn more difficult heroes and how to effectively use them. Also please bear in mind that shields are extremely effective against snipers, and if there’s double snipers you just simply need double shields or at least one shield and a hamster.
Also, I personally enjoy the double barrier meta-I think some players are just projecting their dislike for the barrier spam because they don’t know how to break it. Consider Baptiste, SOMBRA and Symmetra as viable break options
Hanzo:
- Storm arrow reduced to 3 arrows
- Can’t animation cancel into stormarrows
- Head hitbox isn’t stupidly broken
Widowmaker
- Slower NonLinear charging rate for scoped shots
- Faster charging rate while airborne after grapple.
Maybe intoduce hero ban?
Other than that: I play mystrey heroes often and double barrier comes up like 1x in every game. It’s a difficult comp , sure. But, maybe try Bastion? He can melt shields and 1 of your hated shieldbearer can protect him. I got him 1x and we cheeeesed through the enemy double barrier.
I think Hanzo’s storm arrows would be fine if they couldn’t crit.
Because very few heroes are playable without Sigma and Orisa.
Or more accurately, their barriers.
Tell me, what’s the counter play to snipers?
Shields
What’s the counterplay to cc?
Shields.
What’s the counterplay to burst damage?
Shields
What’s the counterplay to the enemy dumping all their ults on you at once?
You’re gonna need a lotta shields.
Most DPS heroes have gotten buffs that lowered their TTK to “blink and you’re dead”.
There’s significantly more cc with barely any way to defend against it.
And all the ults and abilities that used to be a reliable counter to ult spam have since been removed.
“Elite” players complaining about X or Y “getting in the way of their kills” until it gets removed from the game has led us to this point. Barrier shields are the only thing left to protect them from matches turning into instagibb CoD “whoeverz aims gooder gets teh win” clownfests.
It’s viable because it reduces the chance of getting one-shot by double sniper, which you could previously avoid just by stacking tanks. Nerf overtuned DPS (and nerf healing too) then we can talk about nerfing shields.
I prefer less arrows, since it removes Hanzo’s shield burning capability.
He should be worse than Soldier and Junkrat at doing that.
People play Snipers and high burst characters because they are simply better by design. Nerfing Healing will not solve the sniper problem because people will still play Widow due to the simple and extremely obvious fact that a hitscan, any range one-shot every 1-ish seconds (with the added bonus of a mobility tool and multiple wallhacks) will always be better than any other dps kit unless it can shoot faster or require less aim for the ohk.
Even if they removed all healing abilities, as long as you can aim, Widow would still be played and be better than characters like S76 due to the frequency of which she can dish out so much damage from any range.
Widow leaves absolutely no room for counterplay which is the best thing you can do. Her stats should be absolutely horrible in this meta, however…
I don’t know how people are going to endure a year of this.
I kind of hope that when OW2 comes out its accompanied by a huge “balance everything” patch.
I would love to see the reduce DPS across the board by 25-35%. Increase TTKs without headshots to 1.6-2 seconds.
Reduce support healing by 50% from “I can heal you through that” to “I can buy you a few seconds, and then you’re going to have to take cover or something” even through the reduced damage.
Reduce tank health pools to keep their TTKs by solo DPS around 3.5-4 seconds without headshots.
Then reduce barrier health, and barrier effectiveness overall to keep games moving forward.
If it were me I would do the following…
Overall barrier health is reduced by 10-15%.
Damage Type | Barrier Health | Effect On Barrier | Effect Through Barrier |
---|---|---|---|
Hitscan | 100%-40% | Full Damage | No Penetration |
Hitscan | 39-1% | 50% Damage | 50% Penetrates Through |
Projectile | 100%-40% | Full Damage | No Penetration |
Projectile | 39%-1% | Full Damage | No Penetration |
Explosive | 100%-40% | Full Damage | No Penetration |
Explosive | 39%-1% | +25% Damage | 50% Penetrates Through |
Beam | 100%-40% | Full Damage | No Penetration |
Beam | 39%-1% | Full Damage | No Penetration |
These inherent limitations to barriers would also allow for new kinds of barriers in the future that react to different kinds of damage in new ways.
what was diferent with other stale metas?
dive was terrible to play against… same than goats.
the problem is not one meta, the problem is play the same meta for more than two months.
People keep saying this, what if I told you that supports and tanks kept complaining about dying that they kept getting buffed to the point where the only viable DPS were the ones that could 1 shot?
And a lot of them were buffed offensively too. It is crazy how people try to distort the narrative. I want to believe it is intentional, but I do not really think they are bright enough for that.
We also don’t control our teammates, and many heroes are just not suited to focusing on shield break. This kind of thing is precisely why 2/2/2 required a major rebalancing of the hero roster, yet we didn’t get it. The game was designed around switching, yet now we can’t switch and the balance is supposed to be more or less the same?
I think the problem is that the deployable shields, particularly when doubled up, became a substitute for real cover and not a temporary means to safely push/move/displace. A team with no cover vs a team with cover they can shoot through is at a massive disadvantage, so of course both sides will run double shield; you can’t afford not to.
The right combo can burn them down, but with many other combos the shields simply stay there, infinitely refreshed in your face no matter where you go on the map. It doesn’t make for much of a dynamic game experience.
I wish beam weapons would disperse over the entire size of the barrier. so that anyone crossing it would take damage. Block their view. The weaker the barrier gets.
Woah, steady on there. I think the game has enough visual clutter in it already. Plus, how would that work on a shield like winstons? That would look awful, and would just make beam characters the meta, and discourage taking any shield whatsoever.
