Why is a forced 50% win rate a thing in this game?

I mean, its bad enough that this game has the worst matchmaking system in any current fps; that ive played anyways; but then the chance of a winning streak or getting into fair games consistently doesnt even exist?

I mean, sure I could go play Competitive but no self-respecting player in this day and age takes OW competitive seriously except our OWL brethren. Also, why should I be forced into a specific type of game mode just to get fair games? Can we not get it across ALL game modes? Is it really that hard to fix and implement or has too many of our beloved dev team been purged from existence?

There was a time when this game used to be fair and fun and something one would look forward to logging into everyday; but in the last year? year and a half i would say; its just taken a HUGE turn down. Losing isnt fun, i dont care who you are or what you say about it; it isnt fun. At all. I know it happens in a 6v6 or whatever environment, but man; you get anymore than maybe 3 games won in a row and BAM; thrown into games with people who vastly outskill you in every aspect; over and over and over and over again until the desire to play is gone. Its almost like the game is designed to weed out the toxicity and the players with anger issues, etc. I dont know…

Im sure there have been many topics in this over the years, and thats fine; but I just needed to get it off my chest. I dont play Competitive anymore just because of the garbage matchmaking and the lack of incentive. Golden weapons are all well and good; but grinding out those CP’s… yeesh.

To any new players reading this; I warn you now, you are in for a world of hurt in your journey to Level 25. I would say enjoy, but… no. Its not enjoyable. I love this game, have since the beginning; it just makes me sad to see the sad state its in now. And with such a blatant and obvious problem that any other competitive fps game fixes almost right away… i just dont get it.

cheers! <3

50% winrate means you’re hardstuck and need to improve to climb again.

Losing is ok, when the game is good. The stomps that happen either way prove that the match maker is trash. A 2600 DPS isn’t equivalent to a 2600 support, which isn’t a 2600 tank. But the matchmaker says it is… and thats why you get stomps.

I honestly don’t believe in forced 50-50. When I’m in my rational form and not tilted, I notice every game I win, usually I made good plays or enabled my team to win. When I lose, it’s usually because I fed or just had no impact and caused us to lose. Now I will not deny there are games where I could literally do everything right and I would still lose, and games where I can go AFK and still win.

But those games are in the minority, and USUALLY the win/lose can be under my control

ā€œForced 50% win rateā€ exists because every match you play is handicapped.

There is no forced 50% winrate

the devs need 5 more years to figure this out…
don’t tell them that a diamond dps with a gold mercy pocket is not like 2 plats. they wont believe you.

It’s not, 50% win rate means that you just have to get better.

I’m with the OP, it’s absolutely crazy that we can’t all win more than 50% of the time. Everyone should at least win 75% of the time. Why can’t Blizzard just make that happen? What’s the problem?!

Forced 50% means actual matchmaking. Its hard to make something that good. The game has the worst matchmaking ever. Dont forget they use mmr instead of sr because…reasons.

Forced 50% means rigging, not matchmaking. Forcing a 50% win rate would require the matchmaker to selectively place individuals on teams that are guaranteed to win or lose to purposely force out an even distribution of wins and losses.

Actual matchmaking means a 50% chance of winning - meaning it selected players where it believes both teams have an equal chance of winning. That’s a completely different concept.

Because it isn’t a thing, that’s why.

is the diamond dps stuck at diamond due to the 50% win rate?

He’s talking about quick match.

Theres no such thing as team being guaranteed to win.

Of course not, but you can certainly stack the odds very heavily in favor of it. Plat player? Stick you + 5 GMs vs 6 silver players. Essentially impossible to lose.

You wouldn’t need to guarantee it, just provide high enough probability that it’s very very likely to happen.

It’s not. They don’t force you to win 50% of your games. The matchmaker puts you in matches where you have 50/50 odds of winning. If it was wrong about you, you’d win more matches and rank up.

What I have noticed though is the matchmaker seems a bit quick to try to test you with a harder games after a win streak. They should probably stop rating you higher because you won like 3 games, and let things play out more organically. But that’s not really the same thing. It takes you might be a better player and puts you in a game it thinks you have 50/50 odds of winning. Or at least it seemed like that the last time I played comp, which was ages ago. :woman_shrugging:t6:

It seems that you never played paladins.

We really need to get rid off handicapped matchmaking or tune it down very drastically. The fact that your 50% winrate is achieved by 4/5 games being complete stomps one way or another being slightly effected by your game history makes the game really not fun to play individually without stacking up with friends and considering how many players already got fedup with this and the devs coming out for practising toxic hero favoritism, it’s really hard to find any kind of groups in the game so it’s not even an option most of the time :frowning:

It is not forced in the way you seem to think it is. It ends up that way because if the matchmaker is finding games that match your skill level you will have a 50% win rate in those matches. The matchmaker you decry as terrible is actually doing its job by finding you games that are perfect for your skill level with teammates who average out to be of the same skill level (I think the algorithm is a little looser in QP about not making everyone be exactly 3100 for instance).
