Why I Have Yet to Not Despise Mercy's Current State

So you’re saying that in a 6v1, I can just “pop in, EMP, kill both supports (who are not crippled because they can’t use their abilities) before translocating away”?

Stick to Mercy threads,

How about you think about a 50 health Zenyatta and an Ana.

It also wouldn’t be a 6v1 it would be 6v6. No Sombra is that stupid to do 6v1 with her Peashooter.

The point is that it is in sombra s abilities. It’s not easy or likely, but the value and potential exists. Mercy does not benefit herself from chain beams…dmg boost does not apply to her
Emp can stop an enemy ult. That’s value. Mercy can heal and dmg boost and get none if her team is really good or really bad.

Which is usually the case. 5 teammates is most risky, while 1-3 has high chance of them getting wiped all over. Have to account for some of resurrected teammates dying again, too.

That’s why 4 seems to be optimal number: you can afford losing 1-2 teammates after resurrect, and you still have one teammate to protect you during resurrect.

Hi!

I’ve read this whole thread and think it is very sound.

I am curious to know if you would be open to other reworks to Mercy that aren’t this one.

Because preventing a snowball from forming is far easier than trying to stop a snowball after it’s already rolled over your team.

The risk of this with the proposed rework is significantly lower than on live servers for two reasons:

  • Shorter cast time. 1 second rather than 1.75.
  • AoE burst heal. Critical-health targets are healed for a large portion of, if not their entire missing health. From a mathematical standpoint, using Resurrect would actually do better to keep teammates alive over that period than just sticking to Mercy’s healing beam; 150 health after a 1-second delay is a lot more than 60 health/second over that 1 second.
  • The actual Resurrection occurs after the cast time, so any hero that dies while Resurrect is being cast will be revived upon completion, assuming they are within range and LoS.

Let’s just say, that I don’t have any faith in my teammates, so if there is mass resurrect, I will always delay it’s use until it’s absolutely necessary. Snowball will form either way, sooner or later, but if I attempt to stop it rolling, I will waste my only way to make it roll all way back.

It would probably not work in theory, but it’s fun to think about.

What if during Valk res turned into an anti-res. Same cast time and what not, but instead of res’ing an ally, you can 1hit KO any enemy.

That just encourages battle mercy 24/7

For mass resurrect as ult, I rez the number that gives me the numbers advantage mid-way between their spawn and your spawn, maintaining numbers equality is okay as long as your team has the spawn advantage. I think the point of tempo rez is trying to maintain man advantage at all times, so the number of players resurrected is irrelevant – it’s more the allied team vs. enemy team player count that matters. That’s why when I was playing old Mercy (and playing my usual tank heroes), I kept a close eye on the kill feed a lot.

Valkyrie-style 2-man insta-rez + 1-man insta-rez E-ability on cooldown is probably OP (and made Mercy a must-pick for quite some time). I wish Blizzard got rid of that rez E-ability on cooldown instead of removing the Valk resurrects first – I think Blizzard is so hellbent on making Mercy a pocket hero instead of someone who multiplies her presence at all times. Annoying, really, but it makes it easier for pros to use her because in OWL a Mercy that GAs a lot between tanks and backline heroes dies a lot – prompting an Ana switch with one hero to keep an eye on her. The typical Ana bodyguards are Lucio, Brigitte, DVa, or S76.

That’s called killing. It’s something every hero can do without the 1.75s cooldown.

They did what amounts to that by making Valk have increased pistol fire rate and movement speed – Ana-boosted Mercy team wiped the enemy team in PTR. Everyone knew it had to be toned down, the one time DPS and Mercy mains agreed on something.

So, no, just no.

It baffles me that they approved of that broken mess in place of Mass Rez which wasn’t near as much of a problem as valk.

Could be fixed by increasing GA speed. It’s nearly impossible to hit Genji during his swift strike.

Mass rez has never been consistently viable in pro-play, only insta-rez and the current iteration of rez that makes Mercy horribly immobile for quite some time. The way Mercy has been balanced implies that “pro-play > casual play”. Honestly, I don’t mind not ever seeing Mercy in Contenders/OWL as long as she’s fun to play, but Blizzard has other ideas.

Surprisingly enough, it doesn’t baffle me. At the beginning of this mess, they promised Mercy players an ultimate that was fun and engaging.

Valkyrie 1.0 was that.

The problem was that Valkyrie had and still has at least 4 different passive buffs that don’t necessarily feel powerful but are incredibly powerful. To get Valkyrie to feel engaging despite that… it had to be absolutely bonkers.

When they saw that valk was too powerful, they should’ve taken a step back and tried again. They essentially slapped vet Mercy players in the face with what she is now.

Oh I agree. They handled the Mercy rework incredibly poorly.

And don’t forget – a mechanic to make her GA reset multiple times.

Have you seen how good Kragie aims? I think that’s the norm in OWL rather than the exception, she’ll definitely still get killed often enough to make her inconsistent on teams moving in formation.

IMHO, any other support are “safe” because they project occasional overwhelming threat – Zen with his discord and right click, Ana with her sleep dart, etc.etc. The changes proposed in the OP introduces threat to Mercy. Agree with it or not, it would definitely change the way Mercy is used.

IN MY OPINION, that really depends on the movement. What Mercy gets for movement during Rez barely qualifies, and even if there isn’t a sniper in the match you’re still more likely to get killed during Rez than not, especially if by chance you leave the escort of your tanks. That leads to a feeling of not being able to use a full third of your kit without help, and that even with help, you’re probably gonna die.
