And on top of timing you also have to think about how long it will take you to recharge, what ult’s are used, which ult’s will be up soon, which ult’s have your team ready/soon, positioning of you and the enemy as well as your team and setting priorities.
Sure it’s easier to use, but way harder to use effectively.
E res is that:
Is it save? Res everything you can. It’s not save? Res nothing.
Valkyrie is that:
You lost the overview of the fight? Use Valkyrie.
That’s it in terms of things you have to think about with Val and E res.
While Mass Res already has far more things going for it alone.
Look, if you think Mercy is fun with Val and the overall rework… That’s fine. It’s also fine that i maybe can’t change your opinion. We are only humans at the end of the day.
But seriously, as someone which played her in matches from Master up to T500…
She is way less skillful to play now than before her rework.
It compared the two rez types and what you actually had to think about for it to succeed. And did it numerically as well.
People rate this thread so highly because for many of them, this is the truth they understand through experience.
If a rez is likely to result in your death, you won’t do it.
In E Rez, you are that close to the target that if you don’t die getting them up, then they should at least be able to return to the fight before dying again, not guaranteed depending on how bad the player you revived is.
Mass rez, actually paying attention to enemy ultimates to make sure the ones that endanger your team upon their return to the fight does not wipe them all over again. Making sure you live and helping your team get back into a decent coordination so they aren’t wiped again. The choice of tempo rezzing over going for a big rez to perhaps save that ult fight later by having your fellow support or other tank back ASAP. Surviving on your own or surviving with less team mates around because that means you have less GA options until you can ult. Judging the battlefield and not popping rez too soon in case one more falls in the mean time, maximizing value in a small moment.
But yeah, player experience on the skills they developed as Mercy count for nothing.
Because of the very small amount of situations in which you can use it and the very thin thought process behind that.
Mercy could be 100% unable to move, with the need to look at the dead teammate and it would still be less skillful.
Difficult to use isn’t equal to skillful. I agree with you: current resurrect could be made even harder to use, but it will remain less skillful than mass rez.
It simply lacks different degrees of impact: you either succeed or you don’t. With mass rez, your success was somewhere between “failed to resurrect anyone” and “resurrected 5 teammates, they captured objective, we won”.
It doesn’t take more skill to get close to a dead teammate than it takes to stay further away. You’re just more likely to be killed.
It doesn’t take more skill to be slow than it takes to be fast. You’re just more likely to be killed.
It doesn’t take more skill to wait for 1.75 seconds than it takes to not wait for 1.75 seconds. You’re just more likely to be killed.
It all boils down to how skilled you are at evaluating whether trying to resurrect someone is likely to get you killed.
If you don’t find enemy Genji spawncamping you, which was rather common.
Like, for real: you just casually walk to the point, and not a single enemy tries to stop you? Had no idea Mercy could borrow invisibility from Sombra.
Breaking news: Witch Mercy isn’t costume, it’s her real self. Experts claim, that they couldn’t do anything to stop her, due to use of black magic. /s
Sure, not dying is important. That’s exactly the reason why it is so easy to use.
An ability which is better used not used can hardly be called skillful, especially considering that if it’s used, you also have most of the time close to no risk to die.
Then add the power of one res on top of that and you have an ability which is very easy to get value out. Nothing skillful or versatile.
So you’re implying all that Ressurect was is to press Q after respawning?
Now, which one is it?
Also, how much skill does it take to “worry about dying”, exactly? It sure sounds complicated - I bet most players charge into every enemy ult combo they possibly can before mastering the art of not wanting to be shredded!
Maybe next time they will make an actual buff, instead playing with that lackluster “ultimate”. Because when they REALLY want, they are able to make something good, like Hog changes.
Do you know how rare those actually were? EXTREMELY
Much less how often they FAILED because someone had gained an Ult while you were running back from spawn and then proceeded to Re-Wipe your team? Often, VERY often.
Listen, if you don’t like discussing going back to ORIGINAL “Huge Rez” (mass res) that’s fine. Just stop already with “It is more SKILLED now” when it is not. It’s just a whole lot easier to die with current Rez with 1.75 second cast time (the LONGEST cast time in the game) and 75% slow (also the ONLY ability that does this in the entire game). The way Rez is set up now it is PUNISHING. An since the majority of Mass Rez was NOT “Hide and Rez” though it was an option (a very BAD one) I feel everyone who plays Mercy is being PUNISHED for something the majority of us NEVER did in the first place. The way this punishment “feels” it’s like being sent to bed without dinner or Apple Pie Ala Mode for dessert for something I got blamed for when one of my sisters did the actual crime.
Back with original Rez you had OPTIONS, you could Rez 1-5 people if need be and actually have a HERO Moment. Now there is NO Hero moment for Mercy unless she goes Battle Mercy AND more than likely gets REPORTED for doing that.
Who here likes getting frozen by Mei? Well then, have we got a Mercy ability with your name on it!!
Slow your gameplay to a grinding halt with the press of a button! Are you able to hide behind a pillar/wall/shield and press a single button every thirty seconds? Congratulations! You have now mastered this skillful** ability and are ready for the big leagues! Go get ‘em, tiger!
