Why healers and tanks are so unappealing?

I have recently lost ton of ranked games only due fact ppl wont play tanks nor healers even if it means losing, Im main mercy but there is little he can do if no one is actually willing to take the tank role.

Now i would love to fix the appeal of tanks by introducing new tank champ that is not boring, But im not working for blizz so.

Tanks aren’t boring, people just don’t like being easy CC targets

Healers also aren’t that boring, it’s just some people would rather go pew pew

they are so unappealing because they aren’t dps. you don’t have the chance to hit that one shot as widow, or get some genji potg, plus you have to actually stick with your team or rely on your team to do good. (i main tank, just saying)

As a healer main we get blamed for everything that goes wrong. It’s highly depressing.

I’ve taken to mostly playing entirely tanks lately. Know what is the worst thing?

It’s not the constant CC aimed at me.
It’s not being focused most of the time.

It’s my damn group NOT standing behind my Rein shield. I am SO SICK of watching Hanzos and now Ashes stand JUST outside of my shield to poke, and get head shot. It ages me far more than getting targeted by a Doomfist and Brig combo simultaneously.

I know from watching my kids play they would rather go pew pew screaming like there making a damn YouTube video than do anything else so that could be an issue.

Most people just want to kill things.

Most tanks and supports don’t facilitate that kind of gameplay style.

Because being the easy CC target sucks the fun out of the game.

I love playing healer. Healers can carry a game pretty easily, but can ruin the game just as easily.

I love healing

I actually see healers get locked in just as fast as dps. As for playing tanks it’s really frustrating because you’re running the risk of trying to make room for your dps to do something, and they either do their job and you win, or they don’t and you spend the game getting focused to death over and over. You can do everything perfect, and still lose. Damage just has a much higher carry potential so is more attractive to people trying to climb.

Tanks and supports require teamwork to get the best out of their kits. Unfortunately, there are too many players who are out only for personal glory and gratification, and don’t care about teammates. It’s easier to lone wolf a damage character and get that gratification than to do the same with a tank or support. Hence, more damage players.

The ironic part is that damage characters function optimally when working with a team, just like tanks and supports.

It’s not that they’re unappealing, it’s just that in a shooter it’s unrealistic to expect 4 out of 6 players to play supportive roles.

Only shooting a third of the time wears thin.

I guess it’s just a personality thing.
Some people just want to protect and lead teammates to victory.
Some people just want to heal and help others.
Some people are experimental and and can be a jack of all trades.
Aaaand some just want to destroy everything they see.

I guess from being an FPS game, you expect that an incredibly high percentage of players being DPS mains, since most popular FPS games don’t have multiple roles aside from “kill literally everyone you see”.

Especially in QP, You have people instalock 3 dps and they either do absolutely nothing in terms of kills and the objective, or they do! I remember playing a QP game where we had a full team of DPS and we won!

While simultaneously never getting recognized by PoTG (unless everyone did nothing) or the not so covetted gold healing card as a solo healer.

I think a lot of the problem is DPS is so unused to having a healer they simply don’t know how to play with a comp that has one.

they aren’t

for some odd reason there is this myth around this community that “dps heroes are the easiest to climb with or they carry games”

the higher up you go in ranks, the more support and tank players there are because they understand how important they are

I think this really is a deeper issue than it may seem. The game is literally telling you that the DPS players did the best things in the game, on some level.

They’re only unappealing to people who don’t know how to do it properly, and most don’t take the time to learn it.

I used to hate Reinhardt. I figured him out, and now I have a blast playing him.

thats odd, literally every game rein gets potg

i rarely get potg with mccree, widow etc because the tanks always manage to kill many atleast once
