Why healers and tanks are so unappealing?

The game is based around 6 people attacking as a team, where everyone except Mercy is expected to literally attack the enemy at some point. But tanks and supports get shafted a little bit harder when that doesn’t happen, and let’s be honest that never happens.

You’ve hit on one of the biggest issues in Overwatch: It’s a team game that encourages and rewards solo play. It’s literally at war with itself. Medals, PotG, and SR are all individual rewards. What group rewards are there outside of a small XP boost for grouping up?

Team play is the true key to success in this game. If the game design actually encouraged it, so many issues would simply disappear.

I play Lucio and will only pick DPS if we already have tanks and healers. Is it common for teams in gold and above full of DPS mains to run without any healers or do people switch? Also if you run without healers at higher levels surely you just get destroyed?

i like playing healers. when Ana first came out i played the crap out of her to where she became matched with my most played hero at the time @ 69hrs i think.

but tanks is another story. I just cant find playing them fun personally. even when im doing well.

What usually happens in my experience is people instalock either dps or healer and once all 4 slots are taken the last two to pick just sit there in shock that they might have to fill as Reinhardt for the 5th game in a row.
