Why forced 222 is bad for the game

ive seen a ton of posts for ppl being pro 222 meta. while im someone who flexes and plays whatever i feel like, im not strictly /only/ a support player or dps or tank.

forced 222 encourages one tricking as well as forces people to play a role repeatably. this will cause people to get burnt out of the role they play (support players more likely than others)

what happens when that support player wants to tank for a change? then the tank player will have to play support and you can see how this will unfold. This system will just collapse on its self. Its better to just have ā€˜freedom’ to pick and choose and swap what you want instead of being forced to run the same person or playing the same class repeatedly.

edit: plus there are team compositions that synergize with each other. So if you have a zarya, hammond, zen, lucio, pharah, and a mccree, that obviously is not the best comp but because its 2/2/2 its gonna work right? wrong

I don’t like the idea because a lot of times depending on the team we needed 3 dps or something like 1 healer and an extra tank. Not every team is best with the 2-2-2.

jeff stated 222 was an idea because the majority of players specialize in roles on 2-3 heros, the game was designed for switching but most dont so they are evolving the game to fit the majority of the playerbase

I’m not sure you are addressing what people are asking for. A locked 2-2-2 would require a role queue. If you grew weary of playing support, you would just queue for a different role. There wouldn’t be any tank player having to support, because they queued for a tank role.

The roles would have separate MMRs. The current system actually discourages switching to different roles and encourages one tricking by tying your SR/MMR together between all 3 roles. Mastering one is currently more beneficial than dabbling in all 3.

yeah so, that’s what the current role queue is for right? why are people still asking for a locked 222 on forums then? genuine question

Then they queue up for tank.

yep, roleQ is the tool to get 2-2-2 comps happening.

There is a lot wrong with it, but, the things which are wrong with it, are the same things people have been asking for, for a long long time.

I’d be keen to see it, but, I have my own reasons for that.

I’m a flex player by nature and pro 2/2/2 with role queue. Last night I had a game where I had to flex to off tank. Off tank is my least played and worst role and yet no one else wanted to do it. I tried to go something different, but my team asked me to go off tank even though I warned them… it wasn’t good. DPS and Support are what I play well at my current SR. My tank is probably lower. This nets me more losses when flexing to tank. Role queue with separate role SR would ensure everyone is playing on the same skill level with their roles.

they que tank or support, and then get qued with others tthat also decided they wanted to play the role they qued for.

we have this and worse now. its like me saying ā€œso you have a hog, brig, torb, symm, sombra, hanzo, thats going to work because it wasnt forced 2-2-2, wrong.ā€

the only way i would be on board with forcing 222 is to make it so that LFG or groups dont have to be restrained. If you solo queue thru a team based game, you are forced into a 222 Role Queue. BUT if you groups up with your friends, or by using the LFG … then you can play anything you want.

The salt from that!

It would be funny to see, that is for sure.

im a flex too but as a flex, its important to be able to play at least one main tank/healer and off tank/healer. idk how to play hog but i know how to play zarya and dva and etc

either you need more practice for preparation for the times you need to off tank or…

not to compare the two of us together but i do understand the mmr for certain heroes you dont play but ive overcome this problem before… again, not impossible but its still achievable to be a full flex

Then the healer queues for tank next game for the SR they play tank at, this applies to every person playing any role. Yes mid game role switches will be gone but they can still swap in role and not many people will ā€œBurnoutā€ from a role mid game. Everyone will get to play what they wanted to play at the start of the match.

As for the non-synergistic 2/2/2 comps it’s a non-issue considering how it can only help make more ā€œbalancedā€ (not particularly good) team comps, Bad synergy games will replace 4-5 DPS games. I’m willing to make that trade.

Playing every role in the game at the same skill level is near impossible. Sure you can have a few you are comfortable with, but why should you be forced to play those heroes? Why in a game where you’re trying to defeat the enemy team through skill and strategy is it ever a good option to choose a hero you play sub-optimal for your skill level? You shouldn’t have to be a jack of all trades to play this game. You should be able to specialize and hone your skills instead of spreading yourself too thin.

As for SoloQ vs TeamQ style… I don’t see why grouped up people shouldn’t be allowed to run stupid comps…
Yet then a lot of the positives that 2/2/2 will bring, like easier balancing would be blown out the window (unless we’d get strict Team modes) as people could still run maxi comps like current Goats… which would be even stronger if the balancing was going towards a 2/2/2 model. Like Brig would have to be buffed to be any use in 2/2/2… and that would absolutely break Goats comps.
I don’t think that would work out at all.

it’s definitely not impossible. you see it many times in owl

even now, in masters and gm, people will flex any role for the sake of 222 actually. you’re not forced to play any specific hero but if you actually want to be of use to your team, i say you should practice that role or at least know enough to not be considered throwing.

What I want to know is what do pro-forced 2/2/2 people actually want to fix?

Because this will NOT fix people picking whatever they like, playing selfishly and feeding.

Still, why is flexing the optimal way to play this game instead of role queue? When you end up with 4 support mains on the same team, having them flex is almost a detriment unless they are flex players. If players are already flexing at the highest levels for 2/2/2, why not just skip the middle man and let people play the roles they actually want to play?

The only reason you would need a comp like that is because there is no role queue. So you have 3 DPS mains on one team.

A decent comp is guaranteed. You will have 2 tanks and 2 healers. Everyone will play their roles at the same skill level. No more 4 people insta-locking dps because that’s what they want to play. If you queue for a role, then you ensure you play that role and have the pleasure of playing with a balanced team.
