If they have the separate SR and locked roles then the switching isn’t an issue. If a support wants to play some tank and they are placed at that role then they can just queue for tank and go.
It isn’t forcing you to play a role if you willingly queue to play one role.
For most of MMing a 2-2-2 is better than 3 DPS players and a tank that isn’t actually a tank player, they just didn’t get their DPS hero and filled onto it. While having absolutely no idea what they are doing.
With the matchmaker able to use the SR of the people role they are picking, it can place them better in matches - so they get higher quality matches.
With teams running similar setups, they will get consistent, higher quality matches.
With the dev team being able to balance heroes for 2-2-2 rather than try to deal with all cases, then we get better balanced heroes, and which leads to higher quality games.
A LOT of Tank and Support mains, are hating on having to solo, and this solves that too.
There is a lot of goodness to be had here.
They are willing to throw the DPS mains under the queue time bus to get it. But, that has been a long time coming.
yeah so, if it was all dps players it’ll have the same affect towards the game. flexing in this game is important because the game doesn’t allow for individual achievement (except for a really good widow killing half your team) like, it’s a team based game obviously so you need healers in order to sustain the team and you also need tanks to absorb the damage and so on. still not advocating for a forced 222 but it’s essential. but not always necessary
if i play mei at a GM level but my zen is a plat level, it’ll put me in a low ranked game based on what role i queue for?
what if my mercy is decently better than my zen, let’s say masters level but it’ll still put me in a low ranking game for my zen? this is where forced 222 and or role q becomes flawed. esp with separate MMRs for heroes you don’t play
I honestly see your point and all player’s views on this are valid which is why Blizz is sort of in a catch 22. Whatever they choose, there will be people that aren’t happy.
I want a game where I can specialize in a role and hone my skills in that area with a team comp balanced through matchmaking. I know there are people that don’t want that though, and I respect their opinion of the game just as much.
If you are a support or tank, your queue times will improve.
It is only DPS plays which get thrown under the queue time bus, and that is only because Tanking or Supporting isn’t as fun, so there are less of them.
idk he’s saying for each individual hero. so if i queue for a support role but my mercy is masters but my zen is plat, how will it go about then? either way i will be placed in an unbalanced game if we’re going off what this person says.
No… because one of the main advantages of a 2-2-2 system is that it frees the devs to only have to balance the game only around scenarios with two of each class.
If you allow people to avoid it by grouping with friends they could have an unfair advantage through stacked healing, shields or damage that isn’t available to the other team.
Look, I’m not advocating for any of this, because of the problems it will cause.
If it goes ahead, I’ll laugh my booty off AT those problems, because people have basically been begging to have those problems happen to them.
But, roleQ is just a step towards more consistent, better matched up games, at the expense of DPS players getting thrown HARD under the queue time bus.
In reality, 2/2/2 is probably only bad for the forum, as it’ll likely never happen anyways. Personally, I’m for 2/2/2, but I’m also anticipating that they’ll finally get around to doing it a couple years from now after I’ve moved on entirely. Moved on, not because “OW is dying” or whatever, I’ve just been playing since launch and I’m getting bored of the same crap different day dps-slog.
that wont work and ill tell you why. one of the best things about 2-2-2 is balancing around only 2 tanks, or only 2 supports. so if lfg let you work around 2-2-2, you would have super goats. and you would have to play super goats if you used lfg.
this is due to the fact that the match maker would have to account for the fact that the lfg team could run super goats. thus a lfg team would have to be matched with much better solo que players. they did this before with teams just to outweigh the communication. now because they can play a super OP comp against people who cant, they may have to match golds against plats for example. which would leave to groups being forced to play super goats or lose horribly.
