20?
Jonny IS the best choice. I love him. But so is his Brazilian VA, he’s also very talented. Like i’m not demanding they change Jonny for Daniel Müller. No please. Again, I respect Jonny’s work a lot. But it wouldn’t hurt to add a few lines that already exist.
Voices that are from a brazilian actor, who plays a brazilian character.
This ^ is the representation i want in game and I’m asking for. His brazilian voice actor is from Rio de Janeiro, he has the “carioca” unique accent that Jonny couldn’t do, an accent that gives Lúcio a character. When you hear him speaking you know he’s from Rio de Janeiro. get it?
Last I checked Lucio “jumped the line”, so to speak, because his actor nailed everything they want about his character.
Do you think Junkrat represents Australia? His VA sounds like he learned the role purely through quoting Paul Hogan and Steve Irwin.
But that’s fine. Blizzard didn’t hire him to voice an authentic Australian VA, they hired him to voice Junkrat. Just like they hired Jonny Cruz because they thought he was a good Lucio despite not speaking Portugese, or hired Darin De Paul because he is a good Reinhardt despite not speaking German.
The character themselves will always be more important than the language they speak. They’re not going to C+P some of the Portugese VA lines into the English game because that would sound awful.
My only issue is Jonny speaking portuguese, when that’s not his native language.
It’s not, but they’re not going to recast Jonny simply because he’s not a BR native, nor are they going to compromise the quality of OW’s VA by dubbing in a BR VA’s lines.
where I said I want a recast? :o
I always thought it was “Don’t get caught with your beard in the litter box”. They do own a cat, don’t they?
I’d imagine they’d get someone to work with him on accents/pronunciation for any non English lines. It would be really odd sounding to bring in a different actor just to do a few lines that they mix in with the original English dialogue.
I was listening to a few compilations of the voice actors from the non English versions of the game and it sounds like for Hanzo and Genji they used the ult lines from the English version which was just…weird sounding, so I hope that was just a one time thing.
hopefully from Portugal too
I play the game in portuguese and I get all languages (as in english translated to portuguese but also the original voice lines: english, swedish, spanish etc etc)
It’s different? yes. Adaptations are made in the other versions of the game. But people have to accept that these heroes are from different parts of the world, they have their own native language and //accent//. Lúcio speaking portuguese and not having an accent, is pointless to me.
People here are assuming i want a re-cast, when i never mentioned it.
Can we hope for Reinhardt maybe getting some German too along with more Japanese Hanzo, Arabic Pharah, Swedish Torby, and maybe for fun, some Spanish Reaper
What about Torbjorn though? (The topic of this post)
He needs an ice cream scoop emote too … ;3
Oh I agree! But since the English version of the game has an established voice actor I was just pointing out that I would hope that they would try and get a voice coach or language teacher to help him speak it with the proper accent.
I get all that. I think the issue is adding voice lines to this version of the game featuring a voice actor that sounds nothing like the Lucio in this version of the game. It’s like if Torb suddenly had authentic Swedish sounding lines, but in all of these lines his voice sounded like Alexander Skarsgård. And then in all the English lines he still sounded like the Warcraft Dwarf we’ve all come to love.
I also understand, it would put everyone off. But you guys has to understand my point of view, having portuguese lines (only a few, not all of them) being added into the game, but not the ones that already exist? Stings a little. Because this is about representation, I feel that these few portuguese lines of his brazilian VA could be a good a representation.
I second this, I’m Portuguese too and very glad they are finally adding some Brazilian Portuguese lines! I just told the news to my portuguese friend with brazilian background and he’s really pumped too haha, he plays Lucio a lot!
For pharah not speaking arabic like her mom, her dad is canadian so I just assumed she speaks what she is most comfortable with. Given how culturally diverse OW crew is and she grew up around all of them, makes sense she would pick the most universal of the two languages.
Blessed be you, Michael Chu!
(I really wanted this message to be all caps xD)
