Why doesn't Reaper have any Spanish line?

you forgot doomfist asking if we know the way

i want him to say in his deep voice “BURRITOOO”

You can hear half of Brazil’s population and still be wrong in this statement. Just because most Brazilians don’t loose the accent, it doesn’t mean none of them do. Also, he was born in a country where the only people who doesn’t speak Portuguese are some immigrants, mostly from Japan and China, and it doesn’t look like he came from any of those.

Dammn, get served dude

So you’re basing all of this on the accent of the voice actor? Wow. Would it interest you to know the voice actor for Tracer has way too posh a voice to sound anything but funny when the Punk skin-specific voicelines are triggered?

Well, based on what we currently know about reaper so far, I can only guess that the combination of reaper being an American who primarily speaks English, and that the VA speaks English and not Spanish (I’m guessing), plus the fact that it wasn’t really that important lore-wise, caused Blizz to make the decision to not put in Spanish voicelines at the time.

I’m also guessing that getting a VA to say lines that isn’t in VA’s language is added administrative work, and since it wasn’t absolutely necessary for the lore or gameplay or whatever, they just left it at skins.

Again though, it might come in the future when we get to explore reaper a little more.

As someone who lives in LA, I hear a LOT of spanish spoken on a daily basis. Many service-based jobs in the area require the employee to be bilingual.

I propose that those skins change his ult lines from “Die, die, die” to “Ay, ay, ay” in the same tone.

Because usually taking Spanish in high school it’s the only/ first phrase you remember/ learn

@Reaper
Pretty sure it’s because the mech is, like, more held together with duct tape, also that voiceline sounds more like a line torb has. I’ve never heard roadie or rat say anything close to that.

A. Yes.
B. Not really.

And that’s everyone? Especially someone who joined the military at a young age?

Reaper’s VA is 100% american, and basically the quintessential "white dude."
Ergo, he doesn’t speak spanish well enough to meet Blizzard’s VA standards for other languages.

…Is what I was going to say before I realized Keith is from LA.
Why doesn’t he speak some Spanish, even if it’s latino-slang? It’s almost impossible to grow up in California and not pick up on the spanish dialect there, even if it is just slang itself.

Erm, I wasn’t really speaking in absolutes there. Certainly not everyone in the LA area speaks Spanish, but for a young Hispanic man, presumably with Hispanic parents, I’d say chances are good that he is at least semi-fluent in Spanish, even if it is not his main language.

No you dont, his lore isn’t fully revealed.

No todo los hispanos saben hablar español. Ahora hay muchos que solo hablan ingles. Perhaps he no lo habla because he is 2nd or 3rd generation. Lots of Americans today do not know there former generations languages. I would like to know if Reaper is Mexican since he has the mariachi skins. Perhaps he is of mixed heritage like many Americans will be in the future and are today. Many hispanics are also mixed today. ¡Pero si me gustaría escuchar algunas líneas en español!

Me it suits me that he speaks only English, I do not like Spanish language at all, I do not want my favorite character to start talking about it xD
Then death comes = la muerte viene
It’s really not scary, and yet I am not English or American

Hmm that is interesting to debate. I think spanish is the second most popular language in the USA next to english. Odds are he is more then likely to know it then other languages. But who knows we are talking about overwatch in the future. It also depends on his story. Alot of hispanic people chose not teach there kids english, some kids choose not to learn it favoring english. Some foreign parents keep there language a secret. Some parents push there kids to learn there language. Even in other parts of the world some regions have 2-3 main languages to speak. I hope he knows at least some. It could explain why Reaper and Sombra sort of get along if for example both of them share some mexican heritage. (If so then that mariachi skin is misleading or has another significance or was just for fun which I don’t mind cause its cool). Then we also have the possibility that he is adopted by someone of hispanic origins. There are many possibilities.

Look. At the end of the day, if they wanted to add some spanish or spanglish voice lines, they would.

If they want his Hispanic culture to branch out, they would do that.

If they prefer Reaper the way he is, then that’s how he’s going to be.

Having a voiceline in response to your homeland isn’t a requirement and plenty of heroes in Overwatch don’t have them.

Besides, any spanish lines from an american voice actor who sounds like Reaper is bound to be cringey.

Lol sorry kid but that’s the best answer so far.
