Why does Genji’s Swift Strike reset cool down on kill? Now this is NOT a “I hate Genju” thread. I understand he’s a ninja assassin. I am asking purely out of a balance perspective. Why does it reset?
Why is he alone in this? Why don’t other heroes have cooldown resets when they meet certain criteria? Why doesn’t Widow have her power stay at full charge scoped if she gets a headshot? Why doesn’t Reaper have Wraith reset if he gets a kill? Or Pharah concussion blast if she gets an environmental kill? Or DF reset RP on wall kill?
If the argument is Genji is weak without it, then look at Reaper or Pharah. They could certainly use a buff. If it’s “It rewards skilled play” then why not Widow? If the argument is “He’s an assassin. Killing is his shtick” well that’s just lore and shouldn’t be part of balance.
Again this is not “nerf Genji, buff X hero ect” thread. It’s more thought experiment and question why Genji alone is allowed such treatment when similar ideas could make other heroes more viable and play more tactically.
Genji’s kit is bloated is not just something “haters say.” It really is, and because of it every Genji is 400 rating higher than they should be.
Why can Genji deflect mid ult when McCree can’t flashbang mid ult even though his ult and hero is weaker? Genji is just badly balanced is the answer to all these questions.
The character would likely feel awkward without it.
Let’s suppose I Dragonblade and swift strike at Mike and kill him. I move faster than normal but, without swift stirke unless anyone else is close to me I’m not going to get to accomplish anything for the next few seconds.
Genji’d also have impact issues in regular play as he’d struggle to ever get multiple kills/get out without swift strike.
Why does McCree’s roll reload his gun? Why doesn’t Dva’s cannon need to be reloaded? Why do Reapers attacks heal him?
The answer to these and many other questions is that the developers try and give heroes unique mechanics that make them fun to play and differentiate them from the each other.
If you look at the shimadas they have the most stacked kits. Gengi has more passives than any hero in the game. He has the most mobility and one of the strongest ults. Hanzo has insane dps output coupled with log sized projectiles and to go with it lovely mobility and wall climbing.
If you haven’t noticed the shimadas are favored in this game and anything that remotely takes away from their kit is slapped with the nerf hammer.
…Because this game is about every hero feeling unique, and having their own unique mechanics.
Swift Strike is on a pretty long CD for being his only horizontal movement option. It also only deals 50 damage. The character would feel useless and clunky without it. You comparing Swift Strike to all these other abilities is just comparing apples and oranges.
Okay that’s fair, but then why did Doomfist get nerfed as hard as he did the way he did as these arguments could be made he needed the combo to kill and RP to escape.
I will say I’m surprised at how thought out some of these arguments are and they’re more then “because he’s Genji” and I’m happy for that.
The argument “If he didn’t reset on kills it would make Dragon Blade harder to use” yes but, that’s everyone else’s Ultimate. If I toss BOB at a Rein and he kills him but his other team are behind something what then? Or Barrage/High Noon and they hide? It’s just part of using the Ultimate with effective timing which is lessened with Genji.
Because blizzard is incompetent when it comes to doomfist and People outrage and is well known for overnerfing.
It wouldn’t be harder to use it would be useless, Without being able to connect to enemies is like Mccree’s deadeye Only being able to hit in a 20Degree Angle in front of him with deadeye.
Because he is a popular hero and popular heroes will always remain top picks. Since so many people play him there is an equally large army of genji mains that will defend him on balance discussions.
This is how Blizzard has always balanced their games.
because damage has lackluster damage without his combos. Lackluster damage that is extremely unreliable at that. he needs to be able to snowball quickly with his combos.
swift strike resets, because his kit is meant to be a flankers kit. able to get in get a kill and disengage at will.
tracer has the same concept in short cooldown blinks.
Okay but all of those arguments can be made for Reaper as well. Or the exact same arguments can be made with DF as the focus instead of Genji but he got massive nerfs. It just seems to be special treatment rather than actual balance and a lot of double standards when compared to other heroes, how they’re treated and people’s stance on them.
It’s because people where whining about Doom. Reaper needs buffs and Doom got too heavy a nerf. They only people who may argue otherwise are those who benefit from this poor game balance (tanks and supports)
It’s because reaper doesn’t need to use wraith to engage, Genji does, So while Reaper comes up to somone, starts shooting, he get’s low, he wraiths out.
Genji has to dash in, And Dash out to be viable.
Doomfist has 2 abilities to get him out of danger.
