also aside from the fact this doesn’t matter in the real world this also wouldn’t even bother digital footprint not a single school or job would care I typed in a year old forum about OVERWATCH a VIDEO GAME
Reality is that the average player is pretty bad at the game
And then this players will assume all sorts of theories that come from top500 players with mediocre takes; like Samito for example. A guy that cannot track enemy cooldowns. Yet he knows how to fix everything xD
Now what I mean about the average player, is the common guy that understands only basics about gaming. Most specifically, shooters
And when it comes to FPS, there’s really not much to them than walking around hallways and shooting anything they come across
Basic games like Valorant or CounterStrike
And we see Blizzard’s attempt to favor this players with every rework they introduce
All characters become friendlier to new and casual players, but the beauty of such reworks is that they also brings depth to experienced and veteran players
All this become a much larger problem when you see things like gamesense or which strategy, one, or the entire team, will use in a fight
… and yet, most of the time, players are still, walking around, in hallways, shooting at anything they come across; yes
Mercy is no exception to this problematic
The average player don’t understand they are in a 1v2 numerical disadvantage.
And yet, they don’t realize that they are only fighting 1 single aggression
They are only trully fighting the pocketed target
And this is perfect game design right there
Because if Mercy was able to peek and shoot you down, then we would have a balance problem
Because you have to choose:
You can either survive and babysit a teammate, or blast everyone across the map
But you can’t have both
So when people cry about Mercy being OP, or boring to play, with or against, bla bla bla… they are just performing bad
That’s it
They can’t handle 1 active aggression, and 1 support that represents 0(zero) immediate threat to them
Now there is another problem to this concept, which is skill range
And the sad reality, is that Mercy is a problem in low Elo
Because in low ranks, people can’t kill each other; because they can’t aim xD
The same reason why Mercy is so annoying in low ranks, is the same reason why no one plays Kiriko or Tracer in those skill levels
Because they can’t land their shots xD
Now if we go above Masters, and you see anyone complaining about Mercy, that guy, right there, has an icecream cone in his forhead
The reason fot this, is because in High Elo there are much better support characters to pick, with much better toolkits than Mercy
But far from being a catastrophy for her, the higher the rank, the more specialists you’ll see thriving
And again, that is also good design
Wrapping this up, what I’m tryinig to say with this last segment, is that you can’t have all characters in the roster, having the same impact across all skill ranks
In a game like Overwatch, that is unachievable; it cannot happen.
You are playing the wrong game if you believe that.
There are just too many disciplines to master
Which lead us to, once more, correct game design.
The way devs takle this problematic, is by rotating metas
Everyone is having their share of fun; eventually
Today, we have Moira.
And Sombra. Getting free AFK elims
TL;DR
I’ll take any hitscan with an Ana or a Baptiste against that Mercy+Pocket, any day
The first comp can put both preassure and make use of some serious utility, while the second… is just 25% damage boost of whatever this guy can hit; or else you are just wasting your time
When you see any other supports pulling 6 or 10k of both healing or damage, always remember that Mercy can’t bring to the table more than 1.5, maybe 2k every 10mins
Situational, yes, but very roughly after the Healing Penalty
