Owc came out and the queues were very fast, while the rest of the modes were unchanged.
Split the playerbase? Maybe the people who are forced to play one mode or th other will go towards the one they enjoy instead of being mierable and tilted in the one they dont enjoy.
Always found the playerbase split argument funny. It’s basically saying that the proposed mode would be enjoyed by a huge amount of people and that’s why it shouldn’t get added. Killed by its success.
Open Queue.
On my end, QP Open Queue is always faster than RQ (unless for Tank Queue ofc).
I’m not sure I understand the title. Arcade modes are plenty and there are custom games. Fact is they have very few players.
If we need to guess why, I would say it comes from 2 factors.
The “utility”:
There’s no real reason to play Arcade. If people wants to gather XP for their BP ; QP seems being a faster way (imo, yet, team deathmatch is the fastest except where there’s 500xp bonus in a role for QP)
One wouldn’t learn anything by playing in Arcade, its not very good for training heroes or maps.
The “Fun” :
Despite people are crying for its return, playing 2CP is not that fun. The Tank Passive is ruining other modes. Even Mayhem which was kinda fun is now just hell because of abuse of certain abilities, same for CTF. The rest of modes aren’t just fun like Elimination, Duel or Deathmatch (which one can play just as warm up).
But from a different point of view, OW2 does have more mods : Push and Flashpoint. There might be some other in the works (we never know). But strangely, there are people ready to hate those new modes.
It’s not the only reason but it’s a factor. Blizz was even hesitant to add Arcade back in the day because we had QP, Comp, vs AI and Weekly Brawl. Especially if you’re talking about 6v6, which would be at least 4 new queues (QP+Comp)*(RoleLock+OpenQueue), this would throw all the queues outside of arcade into chaos.
Blizz knows way more about queue times and populations than we do, unless you’re regularly checking out every possible queue time at multiple mmrs at multiples times of day and multiple regions?
I’ve only played a little recently but just last night, my duo was getting 4 minute double DPS queues on a Friday evening in NA, even though there hasn’t been so many people queuing for tank in a year completely removing that bottleneck, and I reckon OWC lowering other populations is the cause.
It’s also about making sure players aren’t overwhelmed + spreading content out over time to keep engagement up. Dumping everything in a season all at once makes players less interested in the individual new offerings and spikes player counts early in the season, but then there’s nothing for the rest of the season so players leave.
play one mode or th other will go towards the one they enjoy instead of being mierable and tilted in the one they dont enjoy
i honestly don’t get how someone who gets so worked up over a video game would suddenly not be getting that worked up from playing the same game in a different format. Like maybe going from like, Comp to Mystery Heroes? But I don’t see how I could be seeing red in 5v5 Comp but having a blast in 6v6 QP. (but I’m one of those curmudgeons who doesn’t think 6 Winstons is le epic and hilarious for 5th time i fight it that night)
Queue times are a real thing, you know?
Try to play flex - you will end up playing tank.
Maybe if you all would not wanna be dps mains, we would have nice things like more modes.
This is dumb logic. Split player base concern is not for protecting the popular game modes, but for protecting the other game modes to keep their populations high enough to warrant using.
This is several years ago, but Jeff Kaplan gave us a day’s snapshot one time of stats for various game modes by region and platform.
For EU for that day, 99.8% of all hours played were in just 9 game modes. Splitting the player base is a very real concern for the borderline fun, but not extremely popular modes.
There is a very good reason Blizzard has limited how many options players can pick from to keep people finding Qs for even the lesser played game modes for the given period of time and chunk of the world you are in.
Its why we have lost various game modes that weren’t popular enough or had them in rotations too.
I didn’t say it’s about the existing modes being popular, you made that up in your head and then called what you yourself made up “dumb logic”. Which is also funny, by the way.
It’s killing a mode because it’d be successful, that’s it and that’s what makes it a funny argument to me.
Yeah, i just think they wouldnt be “ruining the current mode” They are currently forcing players to play a mode they would rather not play…since the players have no choice but to be funneled…
