Seriously, out of all the “unfun” things in this game like Shield Bash canceling nearly everything and basically allowing her to Auto Kill a Tracer, Moira’s beam damaging people across the entire objective killing a Pharah quicker than a hitscan, Hanzo busting Tanks better than Reaper even without the abomination that is Scatter Arrow which was in this game for over a year and a half, Junkrat walking up to any 200HP hero shooting one explosive and letting his Concussion Mine finish them off while he flies away with nothing but a scratch, Tracer blinking behind the enemies One-Clipping a Mercy or Zenyatta and escaping untouched, getting a useful pick only for Mercy to Resurrect them as if it never even happened stopping us from pushing, Symmetra tossing a moving Shield in front of her while she’s frying people around corners…
Oh but Sombra lands a hack and we gotta butcher her and send her back to F-Tier where she is now statistically the worst hero in the game… Wow.
One-shot mechanics? Okay.
Two-shot mechanics? Okay.
Extremely high burst? Okay.
Multi-kill to team wiping ultimates? Okay.
S-tier kits combined with S-tier damage? Okay.
Sombra?
Random spread low bullet damage gun.
No form of burst damage.
No form of alternate damage.
A kit with a drawback attached to every part of it, be it animations delays, audio cues, or countered by taking damage, the most basic aspect of the game.
Complete with bugs on top of the drawbacks to make her completely unreliable on top of clunky feeling.
But according to non-Sombras - Okay.
Yeah with all the crazy abilities in this game, I find it crazy how people fixate so much on the hack as being some ridiculous OP ability. You’ve got a steel trap that totally immobilizes you and makes you a helpless sitting target, while taking away all movement abilities. There’s a sleep dart that prevents you from doing ANYTHING at all for several seconds. There’s several ways to one shot kill, as well as many near-instant death combos. You can resurrect a dead teammate at full health in a second or two.
Then there’s hack. The ability that’s somehow determined to be more OP than all of those, and needs the limitations that it requires constant line of sight, and a single point of damage interrupts it. Even if it lands, it still allows full movement and weapon usage and only takes away abilities for a few seconds. Yet it has the most drawbacks in using it, being tougher to use than even Mercy’s resurrect. And somehow people still complain about it.
I’d love to see statistics on how many hacked players even end up getting killed as a result of the hack, I’d bet it’s probably under 15%. Yet people play it off as the best ability in the game.
While I agree that there are many ridiculously unfun mechanics in this game, hacking a tank can mean death sentence for their team and not just the tank.
Good aim after you’re hacked so you can out damage her (Literally most heroes have primary attacks that out DPS Sombra’s only source of damage)
Moving behind a wall/barrier after you’re hacked
General knowledge of the game
Putting pressure on Sombra
There’s a lot of things you can do when you’re hacked and 1v1ing a good sombra is generally not the best option. Falling back is generally good as well as landing a few shots because she is a squishy hero with little to no real damage output.
Hacking could mean you die. And that’s assuming you don’t flick around at the sound of the hack with your barrier and break LoS or one of your team doesn’t shoot the Sombra. And even then it’s going to take the rest of Sombra’s team to coordinate to kill you, because they need to strike in a coordinated manner while you’re hacked. Sombra herself can’t kill the tank because she has to translocate away after the hack or get blasted to dust, so she’s relying on her team to finish it.
So yeah, the tank might die, if several things all go right in a short time-frame. Compare that to Hanzo. One storm arrow, tank is dead. No coordination required, no multi-step process. Storm arrow, dead tank. How is Sombra the dangerously OP one?
Yeah and so can Brigitte’s Shield Bash, all it takes is a quick Bash through Reinhardts Shield and they’re free to hook him or use any ultimate they want to get through, that goes for any Tank, hack isn’t even close to being that much of a threat considering it takes time and positioning and you know it’s coming and it only takes 1 damage to cancel so it’s risky.
Non-Sombra players after her buff said she was OP, that we’d go into a Sombra meta, and that there was no counterplay. We never got that Sombra meta. In fact, her pickrates were actually constantly and consistently declining, so that “meta” fear is baseless.
Non-Sombra players now think she’s fine, and that she just has a high skill floor.
Sombra isn’t as high-skill floor as people think, she’s just so damn buggy and riddled with clunkiness that it takes way too much unnecessary effort to get impact out of her. The people saying she’s fine, but she’s high-skill floor, are using it as a complete cop-out to address actual balance issues because THEY don’t like going against Sombra.
Fix her bugs, and that’s a good start. She could be incredibly rewarding while maintaining the high-skill floor.
I no longer respect or regard people’s opinions who say Sombra is fine where she’s at and that hack was OP and needed these garbage nerfs to it. All they had to do was remove the .1 second latency. Instead, we have garbage LoS mechanics, garbage cooldowns, and 10+ more bugs.
The disruptor has the kit that is the most easily disrupted. Ironic.
Pretty much Andough. The effort to reward ratio is really off with Sombra. Hack was annoying but not really OP. She is buggy as all heck. I like how everyone just dog-piled on me for suggesting that hacking a tank could have an effect on the team and not just the tank. I never said that killing them wouldn’t have a similar effect.
I’d really just like Sombra’s bugs to be fixed. To my knowledge we haven’t got any word on Sombra since her re-balance other than Jeff saying something along the lines of “Sombra isn’t exactly where we want her to be”. If Sombra is too powerful or too weak after her bugs are fixed, adjust her from there.
It shouldn’t be difficult to update the player-base on what the plan and/or status for balance changes is. Blizzard should be more vocal and communicative.
They really should have just have gotten rid of that 0.1 second leniency and see where it went from there. Blizzard seems to really like to change a lot about one character and leave them OP or UP for months.
The abilities that doesn’t you play the game are highly disliked (Sombra, Mei. Doomfist have all of these, and thats why they are always off meta, besides Doomfist in season 10).
If hack always resulted in a kill I could see how it could as it would stagger the spawn but in general it isn’t. It’s just annoying. Is it more annoying than Junkrat’s trap? Not in my opinion. If it’s just as powerful/annoying as all that other garbage I see no reason why it can’t exist.
