Everyone else is confined to science and technology, why are the Shimada’s and Kiriko allowed to run around with spirit animals? Feels like a lazy way to create interesting designs, especially if you’re making two of them pretty explicit weeb-bait.
All was well in the Overwatch cinematic universe until some quirked up fox girl literally teleported in blowing magical papers in everyone’s faces. At least Zenyatta is a robot, giving some techy explanation to his weird kit. Kiriko feels like an anime character retconned into Overwatch.
it just opens up a massive can of worms. why is magic seemingly exclusive to Japan? why wasn’t it used during the Omnic war? why are they gatekeeping it from people like Mercy who could use it for the greater good?
when you introduce stuff for marketing without explaining it’s connection to the pre-established lore it pokes really big holes in the story.
Mercy doesn’t actually Res anyone lore-wise,she can stabilize someone close to death but if they’re actually dead she can’t do anything. It’s just a gameplay mechanic.
Culturally speaking it’s kind of weird that one of the countries on the forefront of automation and technology has it’s three characters being a dude with a bow and arrow, a lady who throws kunai (NO. NO. STOP. Kunai were not throwing weapons. What the hell is wrong with you people?) and a dude who was made into a cyborg ninja… by Europeans.
I’m guessing Genji can’t yell about nano machines for legal reasons.
don’t apologise!! mercy doesn’t have her own cinematic, so it makes sense that theres some ambiguity around her character, same with zen. all three of the shimada’s have canonical stories, which is why their use of magic makes me a bit peeved.
Zen’s orbs e.g. discord orbs can be explained as somewhat of a “bad omen”, “bad feeling”, just a gameplay explanation of chaos and order in omnic’s religion
The Dragons cinematic allready confirmed magic in the world of Overwatch… why is NOW everyone upset about it?
It is just weird that all the ones who are magic are in fact japanese, I agree. But a Fox Girl was a obvious decision. Maybe future heroes that ain’t japanese can dive into the more spiritual aspect of OW, there is enough material Blizzard could use easily
It wasn’t magic, at least Blizzard said that.
Those dragons can be explained as a vision that Shimadas have when they do some family rituals, like act in some way, speak in some way, etc
