Why an ELO Ranking System, when there is a performance based tracker in the game?

If I medal every game in Kills, Damage, Heals, Objective Time, etc, then why do you insist on a Win/Loss system for competitive?

There is a performance tracker, tracking how well you do each match, why is that not a consideration in your ranking?

Why should I lose 50 SR if the team underperforms and we lose?

Thoughts?

There is one for everyone under diamond rank.

Please, explain with the source.

The only bad part about private profiles is that an official dev is private and you can only find his posts via search feature and not by clicking on his name.

That is from 2 years ago, no modifications at all?

If it’s not Baroque, don’t fix it?

They definitely adjusted the system lol.

with map pools and hero changes. but the matchmaker I doubt has changed much.

Would love a blue post on it, but doubt at this point they would admit anything as this game is in the …

They do adjust it constantly.

One of the problems with it, is that it isn’t very good at working out how well you played.

For a while, Mercy’s performance was almost entirely based on how many people you rezed at once.

People started playing to satisfy the sr function RATHER than trying to win the games outright, because that is how you went up ranks with her.

To say that this was “bad” was an understatement.

Personally I disagree with the whole SR+MMR Matchmaking and PBSR approach to comp ladders. Either you work off win/loss or you work off individual performance but not both. The fact that your SR or Rank can either out pace or be out paced by your MMR is problematic and has fueled 90% of this forums posts in protest. Add in that teams are compiled around an average of MMR’s that can lead to HUGE skill discrepancies that then also affect how much or how little SR you get because the game designed you were ‘supposed to win’. That’s uber faulty match making and as an engineer I’d be embarrassed to have my name attached to any of it.

i dont know why they dont just matchmake off pure mmr.
then have a competitive system based on wins. the higher the mmr of the game the more weighted the win, hence the more wins you can net at the highest mmr matches the better the player you are.

trouble is they also want a grind based game.

As long as MMR isn’t based off some blackbox algorithm that decides what is supposed to be skill vs unskilled sure. As it stands ranks on the ladder don’t actually stand for skill but end of seasons reward points. Your SR might be NEAR your MMR but very easily your MMR could be in a different rank than your SR and because of that MMR match making will start making matches to try and pull your SR closer to your MMR thus the “rigged” match making complaint comes in

Because medals are extremely dependent on context and are ultimately irrelevant in the bigger picture.

Honestly I’d rather have teammates trying to win over teammates just trying to statpad.

I would agree, but when people are not trying to win in the lower brackets, and it’s hard for those to stat pad, you’re either good or bad at that lower level.

i dont know. i think lower elo stat padding is doing all you can to help the team win when you cant rely on the skill consistency of team mates. why not seperate the good stat performers from the bad ones and then let them learn teamwork in the next rank where you have more consistent mechanical skill players to work with.

punishing good stat performers low elo just drags out the skill filtering process and increases the grind. that maybe fine when the game was new and had a large playerbase, who were all playing in good faith, but now you have a smaller playerbase and one full of alts, smurfs and trolls, so it just makes for very inconsistent matchmaking and frustrating games.

Agreed, also not having a microphone playing a team game is horrible.

Communication is key.

If you lose 50, it is you who underperform.

the PBSR evaluates almost all your stats per 10 min compared to other players playing the same hero at your elo. Your performance is based on that not how many medal you get. If you lose 50SR with 2 losses it means you are absolute pepega and do not belong in your current rank because you negatively impacts your team and should be going down
