I feel like people are going to be missing those barriers, because all roles are going to be dying more often in OW2. Like some people will unironically miss double barrier.
Youāve been programmed to rely on tank players. Time to move on and have solo impact instead of hoping your tanks do everything. Use natural cover like every other FPS.
1/2/2 is the lazy design choice when you donāt want to add more tanks.
But some people still have to play tank.
Youāre thinking about this from a DPS/support perspective. This change completely destroys what people enjoy about playing tanks.
How? Iād love to solo tank and s*** on everybody because I do more damage, I have triple everyones HP, I have a better ult and more utility. Why does every tank player just think they are a sponge and there is 5 people attacking them at all times? Such whiners itās insane.
So current DPS players will take over the tank role? I canāt necessarily disagree with that. Itās entirely possible they just said screw the current tank pop. The sad thing is, for those like me itās what kept us playing the game since release - we donāt have many other options. While the DPS players have plenty.
you know Iāve been defending devs for quite a while now but even I canāt bring myself to say itās not a lazy choice, it most certainly is and in all honesty it hurts to actually say it
sometimes the easiest route is the right one but not this time and Iām afraid they wonāt listen
The game itself will be significantly worse in all aspects, but apparently DPS queues are worth ruining the game for.
Believe it or not, people actually enjoy playing tanks to, you know, tank? If I wanted to run in and kill people, Iād play DPS.
Hammond isnāt a main tank below Masters ELO.
If anything, given the difficulty of balancing Hammond with less CC, and CC resistance passives for Tanks.
My guess is Hammond becomes a DPS in OW2. Say around 350HP, with a 20% smaller character model. (But fix the zipline length).
I think they will change it or add 6v6
I keep trying to tell this to people, but no one seems to get it. For instance if you donāt like Mercy or Reinhardt, you arenāt supposed to like them. There are balanced, changing them to fit someoneās play-style who doesnāt play them is equivocal to ruining the hero for those that enjoy them how they are.
Did you just call Ball an off tank? Lmao
Heās 1) a main tank and 2) literally the best solo tank throughout the history of the game.
Ball solo tank 4 DPS Mercy solo heal comp was literally meta during GOATs
Also the fact that you think Winston will be a bad solo tank ābecause he leaves the backline openā just shows you donāt understand how Overwatch works.
You arenāt supposed to be encouraged to play passive and overly defensive, youāre supposed to go be aggressive and apply pressure. If you have a backline with a Winston comp, it should only be Mercy/Zen and any ranged DPS you have. You donāt need another tank to bodyguard or babysit them. Thatās the support playerās job.
And thats ALL that matters!
Fun? No thank you!
Obviously there are going to be changes to tanks. Your post completely ignores that as you sound like you are assuming current version off tanks will be solo tanking.
Iām willing to try. I can see the devs wanting more fluid / faster paced fights. And given all the spots maps have for flanks etc . . . it helps that.
The tanks will need to be reworked so they can counter each othe and cover the second tank roles . . . Despite all is said and done, tanks help establish space with pushing carts or holding on to the robot. Rein and Zar are in a good place but other tanks not so, when going toe to toe with brawls and countering the other tanks.
Tanks like dva or hog (or even winston) will need some rework as they canāt push off rein or zar (say all else is equal like dps and support) off a cart because they can shield bubble from long range stuff and dva canāt rack up enough damage to win the 1 v 1. And it might be by design of 6 v6 because two tanks could cover for their deficiencies .
On other side of the coin, tanks like diva, ball, and winston can peel like no tomorrow, rein can charge away, but hog, oris, zar canāt so some rework will have to be done to help peel. Sure hog can hook but its not the same as a tank thatās your face . . .
The devs didnāt even show orisa off as they havenāt figured out her rework in 5 v 5. Also they only showed dva vs dva (one team later went zar) . . .
5 v5 open queue, this might be interesting but might be just like 6 v 6 open (most people run 1 tank and 1 healer in open anyways)
Not this tank main. I play tank to be the tip of the spear, for the rush of trying to control where and when engagements happen. To make space for my team to do work, and make it as impossible as possible for red team to do theirs.
I play a ton of Winston. Winston isnāt looking to protect his team. He can, and will, and I do. Frequently. But itās more about taking off angles, harassing support lines and forcing red team to make choices. Peel or lose your supports. Back off and give up positioning or stay and deal with Monkey. I donāt want to be in front of my team, I want to behind THEIRS. Thatās my role. That doesnāt change one bit in OW2. In fact, it looks like Winston is getting better, with ranged damage as an option.
I feel for anyone who thinks this destroys their OW experience. But I donāt agree. I think this makes tank play more important, raises the level of potential skill expression in EVERY role, and puts the emphasis of tank play on strategic decision making. Which is where I think it belongs. Youāre welcome to disagree, but donāt speak for all tank players when you arenāt all tank players, please.
Iām really curious how many people making this statement actually main tank and would be shocked if itās not close to 0%. It really reeks of āI have no idea why people main tank in the first placeā.
As an extremely aggressive tank player - I really honestly do hope youāre right brother. I guess Iām just a bit cynical as thereās not been many things Blizz has done since release Iād call a pleasant surprise.
