Where every DPS stands after Beta 2 IMO

Gonna seperate this into three different categories, the good, middle of the pack, and bad, with that being said lets start:

The Good:

Sojourn: Definitely the strongest DPS from my experience, her kit is very versatile with her being able to take engagements at any range, good mobility that enables her to flank or simply reposition, and honestly disruptor shot is very versatile in it’s uses. Definitely overtuned tho.

Tracer: She got a DPS nerf but overall still insanely good, being able to harass the enemy backline, get a pick, and quickly get out will always be valuable and tracer is just always good at this.

Genji: For once Genji is finally good again with him being able to do his job without getting CC’d, what else more to say? Extremely mobile hero that is able to get into and out of backlines quickly and get picks. One of the best heroes currently in the game.

Hanzo: Again mainly the same except for a storm arrow nerf, IMO Hanzo is the hero who benefits the greatest from the 5v5 format. Very deadly at all ranges and IMO you can really never go wrong with picking him. Both Shimada bros are simply no laughing matter.

Soldier 76: Despite the nerfs to him he is still extremely good IMO, again less barriers in play so allows him to do more work and is all around a very safe pick mostly. He’s honestly the DPS that the game needs to be balanced around, he feels extremely balanced while being good.

Cassidy: Last of the heroes who left a strong impression on me, his magnetic grenade is arguably cheesey AF but overall he just plays so much better now compared to OW1, if you’re cracked with him you will dominate matches.

Middle of the pack

Widowmaker: I know she seems like she’s this god mode hero again but IMO she is very map specific and heavily countered by picks like tracer, sojourn, genji, Sombra, wrecking ball, D.va and winston. Benefits from 5v5 and can be very strong but not like omg she’s OP plz nerf.

Ashe: Still a good ranged DPS, again map specific like widow maker but still good, also benefits from 5v5 as well. BoB nerf is like whatever, she’s still great overall at what she does and doesn’t feel too strong or too weak but rather very well balanced.

Sombra: Her changes are good IMO, I felt myself getting more picks as her and actually felt impactful as DPS for a change, she’s more niche IMO but she makes a decent flanker that can disrupt the back line.

Echo: Got a lot of nerfs coming in from beta 1 but overall is a very mobile hero like pharah who has high killing potential but is shut down by hitscans quite easily. Also her ultimate is very feast or famine either you copy tracer get 2 pulse bombs or copy Reinhardt get focused and no ult at all.

Pharah: Overwatch’s premier aerial mobility hero, still good under the right conditions but again gets heavily countered by hit scan heroes and relies heavily on mercy.

Mei: No more freeze on primary fire but more DPS on primary fire and still slows so IMO she is a great brawler who is also good at punishing very mobile team compositions. Tho ranged heroes absolutely shut her down.

Junkrat: buff to his projectile size so king of bronze continues his reign. decent overall but man is it easy to just select heroes with range to counter him.

The Bad

Reaper: Reaper received two nerfs that have effectively made went from a decent brawler/flanker to an extremely inconsistent hero that does piss poor DPS outside of extreme close range. Overall he has an overreliance on Zarya and Lucio to even work now. He need’s buffs and maybe another ability, blizzard needs to look at him more like a flanker. Tho DPS nerf should stay he definitely needed that one and OTPs can cry about it.

Bastion: His changes are mostly great IMO and he does feel better overall but he’s gonna be making supports heal him a lot with that massive hitbox and no more self repair. Another thing I’d like to touch on is that his ult sucks, maybe they want you to combo it with grav or Orisa’s ult but overall you just move out of it’s way while it does literally nothing at all. That grenade do be good tho.

Torbjorn: The rivet gun buffs are very nice but honestly he suffers a lot from 5v5, I find that it’s so much easier to focus his turret without an extra tank around and sitting in the backline doesn’t cut it for him anymore plus overload lost armor so he’ll be easier to take out when he pops this ability.

Symmetra: Glorified TP bot lol, same as in OW1 but some small buffs, does not fit the fast paced gameplay of OW2.

And that’s about it, I didn’t go into my more intricate thoughts on why they’re good and kept it simple for the sake of the length of the thread and it’d take me maybe an hour or two do so. Hope this can at least be start a discussion that’d be nice to have.

I definitely agree with the “bad” characters. Bastion’s model size needs to be reduced by 10%. They actually did this in the April fools experimental last year and it really fixes his biggest problem. As for reaper, oh boy they really need to tighten up the spread. The damage nerf was necessary but the wide spread feels horrible to play with.

I’m still iffy on sombra. Sometimes she’d feel the same as in ow1 with your damage just being healed away as you did it. At least in the original, you had a 5 second mute. But again, I’m not 100% yet.

I’m probably biased and all since I like the character, but I feel that Torb deserves to be promoted to middle-of-the-pack, especially with the fire rate buff.

It’s true that the turret has a harder time staying upright, but Torb’s got flexibility with his two gun modes, Overload is still amazing despite the change to bonus green and not orange HP, and he benefits from DPS losing the speed passive as well as armour changes meaning that I don’t need to strip armour off using LMB before using RMB. Ult is still pretty darn good as DPS ults go.

I don’t think he’s up there with Ashe or especially Widow (who should probably go up to “good” tier imo), but I certainly didn’t feel like I was weaker than Mei or Junk when I played Torb.

your probably right but i would switch widowmaker to good and tracer to middle of the pack? im not the best tracer but man did i feel pretty weak with her in ow2. also im an average widowmaker and she does feel strong in ow2 because your not shooting at shields or obstructed by them

probably just me tho or a my elo thing.

Imo Symmetra just felt more feast-or-famine than she did before, which is amazing they managed that. In situations where she does well, she continues to do okay, and in situations where she struggles to make something happen, she’s worse. The alt-fire speed increase is cool but 90 damage is just laughable for a DPS hero. Why do you need to lands 3 orbs that take 1 second each to charge to get a single kill? Sym just has the same core issues she’s always had and they never really address them because the community sentiment towards her is so overwhelmingly negative that there would be instant calls for nerfs if her pickrate ever improved. She’s just decent on a few maps in 1 and people think she should be nerfed because of it despite underperforming literally everywhere else.

Maybe I need more time with her, but I felt Ashe was straight up bad in OW2 after playing her the past year in OW. With how aggressive everyone is now and increased cover+flanking positions I’m not sure there’s much room for her as she performs really poorly when people are constantly up in her face or avoiding los.

Basically I guess I think she’s balanced fine but I’m not sure her playstyle really fits great into OW2 (a common problem through a lot of the heroes). The only reasons to choose her over widow is dynamite+bob which idk if that’s enough. I’ll be happy if others feel differently since I really enjoyed playing her lately.

I’m not sure about Ashe too and i’m looking to play another hero for OW2. I’m not young, so i need one playable with a medium sensitivity, maybe Sombra.

The problem with Ashe is that Sojourn is so damn good that she basically makes Ashe irrelevant. She has better mobility, an AoE damage field, and can one-shot. Ashe might be able to apply damage more consistently with her primary weapon being a hitscan, but Sojourn can just charge up on the enemy tank then one-shot someone. It’s basically a consistent damage vs. burst damage issue and burst damage will always be better when applied in this way. Sojourn having a one-shot in her base kit will probably keep Ashe from being more than just decent.

Yeah this too. Basically these type of ‘slower’ characters (you can include Bastion and Mei in this) can be balanced but don’t really have a place in the game anymore.

Pretty much, characters that take any real time to kill suffer more than characters with burst damage. It was at least sort of tolerable in 1 with two tanks to rally behind, but only having one tank now (with most of them not having consistent team protection) really emphasizes how much better burst damage is over consistent damage.

You know it’s a problem when Junker queen, a god damn tank has smaller hitbox then him. My experience during the beta was that he’d just die extremely fast if left unattended to by the supports.

Honestly… yeah, his max damage output is really, really solid now.

To be fair, JQ also probably ought to a bit larger regardless, as she has about the hitbox of a roided-up Moira, but, yes, just scaling Bast down a bit would be great.

Are we playing the same game? McCree is definitely way worse in OW2 and had almost no play time in OWL - you know, those guys who are really cracked and have some of the best aim of anyone in the game.

I’m judging off of personal experience not league play lol, league play is a whole nother different beast compared to the average game for the most part.

i personally would switch widow and hanzo here simply because her being a hitscan (more consistency) and the maps in OW2 are much more wide open gives her a indirect buff. on top of her getting back her 200hp. widow is better than hanzo currently. other than that, the list is roughly accurate

I get what you’re saying and you’re probably right because I am heavily biased towards Hanzo, but I also think he is an extremely versatile hero when compared to Widowmaker. I wouldn’t really even classify him as a sniper at this point and rarely compare him to widow outside of one hit headshot potential.

:mega: Give Mei her freeze back!

Anyone else feel like, Reaper at this point needs a rework? I mean I get shotguns could be considered niche, but like… feels like he hasn’t been in a “good” spot for a LONG time.

Right, but you said “if you’re cracked with him you will dominate matches.” so you’re not talking about average matches.

I’m pretty sure nearly everyone I’ve heard give an opinion on McCree besides you has said he is significantly weaker in OW2.

Agreed with almost everything but cass. I consider him as bad as in ow1. Range matters, so he will thrive on maps like nepal, ilios, koths in general where cqc matters. His 20 m native falloff on top of general hitscan falloff damage of 35% makes his positioning very limited and overall value as very low. And stun or cheesnade will not make any difference unless they will revert hitscan falloff damage back to 50%. Cass playstyle is based on given opportunities, he is not a playmaker he is good if you go to him, to his range, and the range is meh you can easily play around him like vs rein/zar and get 2-3 times more value from some 76 pick.
