I’m trying to find out which rank would be considered average and at what rank would you say someone is good, besides the obvious Master and GM ranks, which I consider as being exceptional. I’m in silver and I think of myself as being about average but maybe I’m below average 
. Your thoughts?

Yeah, I was stuck here for 2 years and only when you get to Plat is where your mistakes are less forgiving and you tend to hone down your positions and notice the flaws more.

The peak of best chess players so far is around 2800-2850. Even though the peak is 2850, the avg rank isn’t in the middle of 0 to 2850 at 1425. Its closer to 1000 ELO. For Overwatch, peak players are around 4700. Middle is closer to 2000-2250 for average. Which means Gold 5-3

So… Gold. I think Gold is agreeable with everyone.
You can shoot better, die less but still fumble on simple mistakes or under pressure that causes you to panic and get sloppy.

In the past 2200 was 50th percentile.

Pretty much. From Jeff the distribution of players was peaked around gold with roughly an even distribution in silver and platinum. Meaning the near dead avg is 2250 back in 2018. Throughout that whole time I can’t imagine much has changed.

Depends on the region. Back in OW1, I would’ve considered mid to high silver as average in OCE since it was so hard to climb back then due to lack of players and mostly only smurfs playing lower ranks.
But in OW2 in OCE, I’d say low to mid gold is average now considering how much easier it is to climb now thanks to more players populating the lower ranks.
Dunno about American server or region.

From what I remember reading, Bronze and Silver are a little under a third of all players, Gold is about a third of all players, and Platinum and above are a little over a third of all players.
Even by 2019 the average player was technically very low Platinum. But for me it’s always been that mid Gold is about the average.

I remember Jeff saying gold was the average rank and has the largest player base in OW1 so I assume its the same for OW2.

OP, silver players are usually stuck in silver cause they are unaware of map placements, relying on tank for cover instead of the environment, not playing corners and high ground advantage, being out of reach of support and taking on more than you think or being against someone you’re not kitted to tackle. Also aiming mechanics are still rough.
Gold tends to gets close to like nailing down half of these things and Plat get’s most while Plat and Diamond have upped their mechanics and aiming that drop silver without a problem.
From there Masters and higher have honed down these rookie mistakes and play well under pressure while doing insane head shots and making sure those making mistakes are taken out quick.

When OW2 launched the introductory placement changed from 2350 to ~1500. Most players will PLACE in the silver range so the general curve is lower than OW1, undoubtedly.
The reasonable crowd will say gold. The snotty crowd will say diamond. One of these groups is much more likely to be employed and have a good social life.

No one knows anymore. Long long ago Jeff told us that most players were in gold rank. Now Blizzard withholds all that information because it’s most likely horrible and will make the game look bad or something.

Gold has been the historical average on the bell curve. I’d imagine they tweak things to keep it that way.

Ok, that makes sense. I’m climbing through Silver quickly and expect to be in Gold soon. I got stuck in Bronze for a while until I learned better game sense, lmao. Now, it seems I’m flying through Silver and that makes me a bit nervous, NGL.
