What are some good ways to tell if ppl are soft throwing in your group

Soft throwing ≠ throwing

actually, there is no such thing as soft throwing

there is throwing, which involves intentional actions or inactions

and then there is doing something unintentionally, which is not throwing (soft, hard, medium boiled, whatever) at all

Dude. It’s just a phrase that means unintentionally playing significantly worse than you normally do. And yes, that does happen. It’s not actually throwing. Both the term and what it is describing exists though.

Its not a viable phrase

Throwing involves intent

Dry water?

Bright darkness?

cold heat?

unintentional intentional underperformance?

its very, very simple, not sure why you are struggling with this

It’s like the electric eel. Electric Eels aren’t actually eels. They are a knifefish. You can argue they shouldn’t be called “electric Eels” but that doesn’t mean that they or the term don’t exist.

Soft throwing isnt actually throwing. It’s really just a specific scenario of underperforming. But that doesn’t mean it or the term doesn’t exist.

Then the word “throwing” should not be part of the phrase

I dont hand someone a glass of water and say here you go, a nice glass of hot ice

Its water

Therefore it is not reportable since it’s not throwing

You might not but I definitely will now :upside_down_face:

Just dont toss it at me in an arching throw like only Torb can do in this game

Exactly

I KNOW! That doesn’t change how the term exists and has the meaning it currently does. The word eel shouldn’t be in electric eel, but it is. Someone asking about how to identify the animal shouldn’t start an argument about what it is called.

Then stop calling it by an improper term/phrase and instead find another term/phrase that is actually correct, and use that correct term/phrase ongoing

Those who think soft throwing is UNINTENTIONAL are either trolling or a feelsbadman part of todays society.

Looks like protato has a different definition of what soft throwing is

Soft throwing falls under so many category that I don’t think there is one solution. I don’t think soft throwing mean you are throwing. But it can be used to trick others to not notice the actual motive of throwing.

That’s the thing. IT IS the proper phrase. It’s a bit of a missnomer. But just because the electric eel isn’t an eel that doesn’t mean it isn’t called that. I didn’t make the phrase up. It’s already a phrase with an agreed meaning whether you like it or not.

protato doesnt agree - quote “Those who think soft throwing is UNINTENTIONAL are either trolling or a feelsbadman part of todays society.”

I’d love to know how protato differentiates ‘regular’ throwing from soft throwing, given that both are (as he/she is defining it) intentional

soft throwing is: Throwing in such a way as to not alert your teammates. If you have only played tracer for 5 mintes 3 months ago. If you pick Tracer in Comp, this could be considered Soft Throwing.

But what I really meant by soft throwing is this. What if I picked Soilder 76, and instead of aiming at the enemies, instead I aim just slightly to the right of them. It would look like I was playing normal. And if you want to argue that it wouldn’t look normal, I disagree with you.

no it’s not Brooster, we understand what you are trying to say, but if someone says they didn’t mean to signify intention when they used the word “throwing” then they misused the word and should definitely go brush up on their English.

what if a smurf had a grudge with you, and he found you on his team one day, he’s not gonna jump off the map for the entire round, he’s gonna soft throw, how can I detect a soft throw?

so he’s willing to lose SR just to help ensure that I lose SR?

even though he’ll lose more SR than I will because the lost SR grows numerically inverse to your own performance in the match?

uhm, really?

wow. just wow.
