I’ve been browsing the forums and seeing a lot of posts about people getting banned lately. What’s going on? Are there any new ban waves happening, or is Blizzard cracking down on something specific?
It already feels like Overwatch is struggling with player retention, especially with so many people moving to Marvel Rivals, and now it seems like bans are happening left and right. Are these justified bans, or is there some kind of mass enforcement going on?
Anyone else noticing this, or is it just overblown? Would love to hear some thoughts.
I think this is not normal, and it is not good for the game.
It’s not normal that in almost 3 or 4 days there are more than 15 threads of banned people, just imagine the ones that get banned and don’t come to the forum.

This is not right, and all these people should be unbanned. I’m sick of putting up with this company.
The trend of “Im Banned” threads has only been rising. Blizz’ highly sophisticated automated moderation system that makes absolutely zero mistakes at work.
so, spending 4K on the game gives people a free pass to do what ever they want?
nobody can tell us if the bans are justified or not (especialy the one receiving the ban)
also, iirc they said they where going to crack down on smurfs and other types that ruin the game for other people. that might explain the increase of bans.

But what are you saying? You are nobody to know why that person spent that money on the game in the first place. Second, no one should be deprived of the ability to play or at least have a non-permanent ban after spending money on a game.
If you think that the solution to the OW problem is to ban everyone, you are wrong, then you and two other people who do not open the chat will be left.
WE HAVE LESS PLAYERS THAN EVER, WE HAVE THE WORST STATS THAN EVER. Do you really think the solution is to ban everyone? Most of the people who got banned here were for “Toxicity” Why don’t you just mute them?
Do you really want to be left alone playing this game without opening the chat or doing anything?
That’s your mistake, thinking that the permanently banned player will make another account, when there is a competing game that is doing very well. This is pushing players away.
It seems as if the consumer has no rights here. Banning left and right is not the damn solution, the playerbase thanks to another game is already low, and with this what it does is make it worse. What Blizzard needs to do is silence these accounts for a certain period of time. The toxicity doesn’t end when you ban them, you create a new account and start insulting again. A lot of people do this.
The saddest part to this, if you read the post I’ve linked above, you’d see they are actually banning someone who could have and was offering to fix the game for them

Edit* the funniest part to my post, it was for reddit and when I finished writing I had been banned, so copy pasta it over to here. I had an legit rude message in my inbox too from the reddit mod, insulting me and telling me they didn’t want to deal with me asking why it got removed, because they didnt like what I wrote
I also got banned forever, but I don’t play a competitive game, my account is native and I haven’t used any cheats. After playing a several of competitive I rose to platinum 3 with tears, what cheats, come on… Mostly I sit quietly in qp. Sorry for my English
I’d argue you on that one and invite you to have a look at my view on the bans, the link is my farewell letter as well, though mine was a message to help inspire the community once I delete the game in a couple of days. Fyi I have multi accounts already which all have paid skins. So it’s like 3 people leaving at once
you will not get a straight ban from the game though…
you’ll get banned from using the chat for a few days and will increase the more times you get reported. this (probably) will also go away after a certain time (don’t quote me on this, i remember reading this a long time ago) if they keep being toxic they’ll eventualy get banned and yes, that’s a good thing…
i rather have less players who aren’t toxic then having everybody being the biggest trolls because there’s no consequence what so ever (wich will be even worse for player retention)
inbetween ban waves this forum shifts into a “this playerbase is toxic as hell” and then a banwave comes and we end up with these kind of topics on the forum.
i also have no problems finding matches… had games where i’d had to wait 10 times as long just for the match end because people left or where as toxic as they can get.
if you get triggerd by chat, just disable it. it’s not hard to stay under the radar, on the other hand it’s also realy easy to get on the radar (the game is at first moderated by the players themselves, the system cannot pick a player willy-nilly and ban them for what ever reason it sees fit)
they do… they get banned for doing it again… and again… aaaaaand again.
Mr or Mrs dodgy who pays potentially thousands for private cheating software now spends $2 on premium Overwatch currency and their account can now never be permanently banned. People who post things which are straight illegal in chat can no longer be permanently banned because they also spent a nominal amount to ban evade.
That proposition makes no sense. In fact there are many people who complain that OW is so toxic and full of cheaters and Blizzard don’t do anything and it’s bad for the game. So quit or everyone should quit. Yet when Blizzard actually do something, a bunch of the very same people kick off about Blizzard actually banning or taking action against people and how that is bad for the game. So quit or everyone should quit.
