That would honestly be the first time I have seen it used in such a fashion. May I ask if the intent to use it was before or after finding this thread?
It was after, but I had seen it used that way prior to it for a similar reason. It’s used sometimes to congratulate people who reach level 3, or in threads asking where people ask for funny meme images to cheer themselves up.
That’s a pretty rare use case, but it is one.
Somebody doesn’t like fun.
A part of me hopes that this discussion could be the catalyst towards trying to create positivity from the image. Thus succeeding if not out right banning, but at least learning to find joy where from something that sought to only agitate.
Props to you for trying to better someone’s day.
Out of interest do you guys know if there’s a way to check what trust level you are?
A poster built a script to check it, no official way to check it, I had to google it to find it, fastest way is to try posting an image, your level 3 if it lets you.

“*grabs popcorn” has a long history of being used in online forums where a heated debate is expected, but I doubt there has ever been an instance where its usage can be considered “productive.”
Indeed, the Moira variation sought to only add an OW spin to the idea.

Although the difference is, I highly doubt that said Moira quietly enjoying her food, has Caused Many Heated debates.
Except of course, for when some random person decides that the poor innocent picture needs to be banned entirely for existing.
Their was never any debate on its creation of heated debates, only that their inclusion was not only unnecessary, did not add to the debate, but only succeed in ruffling feathers at best.
You can extrapolate that someone posting the grabs popcorn equivalent on your thread means “Hey… maybe you should think about what you just said as it’s very controversial here/everywhere”. The intent usually is commenting that a thread is GOING to be very active and is a heads up on that fact. Negative or positive meaning usually up to the subject of the thread, not the popcorn meme.

You… sure about that? Lol
I’m going to eat some popcorn meme rarely shows up in positive conversations, that’s the heart of the discussion.

But it is not in fact, the Root Cause Of said Toxic conversation, following it’s posting.
Is it the fault of the person who comments that the thread is being heated that the thread IS heated? No.
Does the popcorn meme actually insult anyone directly other than “wow, you picked a doozy of a comment” which is debatably also not negative just observational.
Quite, I’ve been in this thread for far too long, I should really step out. I keep hoping that eventually I will be able to get my point across, but decidedly most people have been very defensive about their stance, so its difficult to try and convey my point as most see it as an attack or that I am being defensive. Neither of which I am trying to be, only understood.
I think it’s understood that YOU think this particular popcorn meme is non-contributory to any thread it’s used in alone and it’s value to the forum is purely antagonistic.
Am I mistaken?
You are correct, its existence is decidedly negative and rarely presents itself in a positive manner. Nothing beyond that.
I’m just hoping that someone locks this train wreck of a thread. o.o
OK! Well, i’m off to enjoy some well deserved Pie.
(Yes i actually have pie, and yes i just used that in a constructive and non-intentionally insulting way.)
Are you insulted by the pie?
