We NEED to force more people to play support/tank

These days all it feels like now is flex or lose. Almost every game, and I can no longer play the heroes I love when I have the 3 or 4 dps comp on my team every game. And even then, solo tanking or solo healing is no fun as it leaves almost no room for mistakes.

I get it, it’s fun getting POTG and all that, but I wish there was a way to force more people to play tank and support than have the same guy solo heal or solo tank every game.

When you have to force people to play something they don’t want in order to have a decent game… well, that’s just bad game design in my book.

I never have a problem getting supports, or playing support. The role is in a decent spot.

Tanks are screwed, though. Bribing more people to play that trash role is about all you can do. I’d be legitimately embarrassed if I worked on the state of balance for tanks.

But how would you fix it?

Myself, I’d make tanks, well… tank more.

Give D’va her old DM back, and revert rockets for instance. People spend their time complaining that

  1. they are stronger at DPS than DPS
  2. people don’t want to tank anymore after the changes…

Well hell, make them good at tanking, and just live with the fact that trying to DPS into tanks is frustrating, because, if they are effective, it WILL be frustrating.

With less damage from the tanks, the DPS role will be important.
With better tanking, the natural tank players will enjoy it more.

You should never force people, that’s how you will end up with throwers or just a terrible game in general.

Incentives is what you should use if the role is lacking that much on ladder

Or, as much as I hate to say it because I personally hate LFG, if you really don’t want to fill give that a chance, you may have a good experience with it.

roleQ fits that. You want instant queueing times? Play tank.

Personally I’m not against role Q or for it, but going off of my experience using WoW’s role Q it is a good option. They even give bonus loot when there is a role that is seriously lacking.

I say they just need to do more than skirmish for long wait times, like maybe have a much better training grounds that you can go to while you wait.

We don’t need to FORCE people playing roles they don’t want. Wee need to make those roles more interesting to play. Saying this as an ex tank main - you won’t force me on a tank role unless it actually becomes interesting again.

we NEED more tank and support heroes. role locking would take some fun out of the game, if there are more tank and support options, more people will play them automatically

Supports are easy, I’m a support main, and even I sometimes have to do another role when bc there are already 2 supports, but man NO one wants to play tank, and I feel that. Tank is the most miserable role. The only tank I really like to play at all is Wreaking Ball, and even then it’s such a horrible single tank.

Gotta make them fun to play first

Yeah yeah “fun is subjective.” But obviously the way things are right now, a lot of people don’t see it that way.

you shouldnt have to force people to do something, its a video game. they should want too.

the fact they dont means the tank/healer roster is boring. some people enjoy it, and thats great. but not everyone wants too sit there spamming heals into someone or holding a shield up.

this is blizzards fault for designing these heroes poorly. while it makes for a great bit of diversity it also seperates the playerbase. the real issue comes up when you realize how powerful tanks and healers really are. if they wernt so over tuned, you could run 6 dps and no one would bat an eyelash. but as it stands dps are only there to deal dmg, healers are there to keep the tanks/dps alive and the tanks are there to create space so the dps can deal dmg.

its a very paper rock sissors style of design, and it results in people picking there side and stickingg too it. its not the players fault the game was built wrong, the people have shown time and time again what they wanted from OW but blizz ignored it and tried to force there own agenda (its there game so its there right) but this results in more and more people giving up on the flex-god life and instead insta locking the hero they actually wanted to play.

take away PBSR

DPS can only rely on a win to accumulate SR.

I assume ur talking about qp. Because in ranked I rarely ever see this problem. If anything ppl are reluctant to tank, especially play zzzzzzz orisa. But dont really run into people who dont want to support.

I will say it directly: a lot of times it is more fun to lose as a DPS, than to win as a tank.

Tanks used to be a danger, a force that you can’t ignore. Nowadays they are more of an obstacle, nothing more. With anti-tank heroes on rampage and healers being gods who decide whether you live or die - tanks are just pet’s on a healer’s leash.

You want more tanks, here’s a tanks and supports player suggestions:

  • Give main tanks 50% CC resistance and stunlock immunity (stuns past the first don’t hit).
  • Revert the Armor -3 nerf (it has been made redundant and didn’t help to begin with).
  • Release nothing but tanks and supports, main or not, for three years.
  • Release new tanks and supports with aesthetics that appeal to DPS players.
  • Stop endorsement decay for people in groups (grouped up players tend to have better teamwork which means better tanking and supporting experience).
  • POTG system that reflects the non-Eliminations tasks better.
  • Better interface that rewards tanking and support as as well as it does damaging.

This!!!
I used to play a pretty mean main tank/off tank D.va before they gave her the DM Nerf and gave her rockets instead. I had so much fun BEING A TANK and not a chunky DPS.

I know her DM was a bit strong, but I always thought that shortening her DM instead of punishing the time of it was the better fix because DM is a shield with huge limitations.

I also believe regular SHIELDs should debuff by lowering damage of people who pass through the shield. IE start punishing Doomfists and Tracers and Genjis for carelessly pushing in on a tank into the enemy. Yes it is their job to flank but that doesn’t mean tanks shouldn’t have a method of protecting their squishies.

This also could allow Tracer’s pulse bomb to be buffed again.

AND it leaves room for a character to have the ability to cleanse debuffs and we could introduce more buffs and debuffs into the game along with CC immunity/clears.

I really don’t think forcing people into playing roles they don’t wish to play is a good thing to do, after all video games are about freedom not “You have to do this or no one else will do it for you.”
I say let’s make Overwatch a 7v7, 1 slot will be AI Controlled as a support. No matter what the comp is the slot will be auto filled by a healer.
Or let’s just have more health packs in general.

Strange, and here I play Mercy, Moira and Bappy despite being a DPS Main.
