I am asking about this because it looks like it was reduced.
New core gameplay content release rate is extremely slow, it takes ages for new hero or map being released and then added to Competitive.
All event are repeating every year with nothing new in them. Recent Lucio ball is extreme disaster, it lacks everything. It looks like devs no longer put enough effort into event, especially considering that some of skins are made by outsource artists and studios.
Balance changes are rare and take ages. Recent support changes have been on PTR for several weeks and it was obvious from first day that Sym “buff” solves no problems. But nothing was improved and it was released on Live with no changes.
I don’t want to be ungrateful, Devs did a great job, especially in first year, but after that OWL thing it started to look like they are no longer interested in making this great game even greater.
i believe that too, so little new content.
No lore, no comics, no animated shorts, no new things in this event, no developers update, a lot of bugs/errors in this update and no answer from Blizzard.
All the new things that we get is OWL related… im worried… Blizzard can do a lot better than this…
Yes, it’s boht that they don’t care, and that a lot of blizzard staff is probably working on this fortnite clone that’s going to miss the boat when it comes out like HOTS did. Wasting money to chase trends rather than strengthening their brands.
First of all, of course the team gets scaled down when a game moves to maintenance.
The main reason for this is probably that it takes a longer time to get everything stabilized the more content you actually have in the game, though. And also, I’m guessing they are fixing some shortcuts taken during development.
You know it’ll be a minor difference that won’t matter since they’re again chasing a trend in the market and arriving at the party after it’s long since been over in a market that’s already saturated. They’ll be lucky to get their money back, and they should’ve learned from Cliffy B.
I’m almost certain they inflate that number somehow with either blizzard launcher numbers, f2p weekend players, or some other trick. This game is not as active as when it launched when they first boasted those numbers and it takes longer to find matches than it used to.
Agreed. The seasonal events are seemingly lacking in many ways. It was assumed in 2017 that the events were recycled due to Blizzard dedicating a lot of time toward the OWL, but after it’s conclusion, and seeing the latest Summer 2018, it’s safe to say that is no longer valid.
This Summer event does everything wrong. The event is once more recycled for the 3rd time in a row. It’s the second worst mode, next to CTF or Yeti Hunter. Lucioball is so 2016 with its simplicity and was originally the beta test for Overwatch’s non-PvP capabilities. It actually puzzles me why they seemingly cannot make new modes for the events. They managed to do it the first year, starting from scratch with their new engine. Now that they’ve made considerable updates and augmentations to that part of the game, you’d think it’d be easier for them to implement new modes that are enjoyable. This “new map” for Lucioball is false. It’s not “new”. It’s the same arena, with a different backdrop.
This Summer is awful. The mode is the same stale thing, the skins are extremely lacking, apart from a few. The sport’s theme in general is bland; they should’ve stuck with the fun Summer/Beach theme. Summer 2017 was better than Summer 2016 for this reason. The Sport skins are so subjective. And even worse, a tradition that absolutely MUST die, is the revelation of all the skins during the week prior to the event launch. It kills the hype. 2016 was much more fun when you could login to see who got what and experienced the surprise or mystery of it. Now, that is no longer reality. We know exactly what there is to expect…plain and simple. Boring.
The rest of the content is also rather poor. Which, surprised me. In 2017, even with the rehashed modes, the skins and other items were, for the most part, all really good. This time…the voice lines are all senseless. Sprays are…sprays. They Mei emote is all right, but again…the Sport theme is all subjective, which is all there is to say about the intros. I am one to believe that the Sport Theme should be for the game mode, and the skins should be more Summer. They’re more versatile and interesting this way.
Events are important for this game. They attract a lot of attention and traffic to the game for a bit. Overwatch needs this continuous news and hype of freshness, or it will drop-off. They need to make it happen for the events coming up. This is the first time an Overwatch event actually disappointed me and I didn’t play at all. I just bought the DVA skin and logged out…and that’s unfortunate.
It pains me to say this, but it does seem like something is wrong. The lack of content, the lack of lore, the lack of typical Blizzard polish, the lack of big features like replay all adds up to say that the team is most likely too small.
Granted that they are adding things like lfg and such, but the rate of that is pretty low. And there’s less and less communication with the community which only fuels the speculation.
