Their design is really good in the 2d portraits, but the 3D modelling department really dropped the ball. I suggest a new model.
We all have bad side profiles, no need to point it out.
“bad” or “not conventionally attractive” characters can and should exist in overwatch and more games, venture is fine
I’m not talking smack about the design, I just think the 3d model is substantially worse than than the official 2d art. For example, the eyes are more relaxed in the 2d art, which is more in character
You need a hobby. A productive one, one that you won’t be ashamed of it.
I 3d model… funny how appropriate that is for this topic. We call this design off model.
Like entering discussions on a forum just to tell people to get a hobby?
And you need one as well, but please the definition of a hobby first.
I’m not really sure what thier aim is. I’m literaally saying the raw design is very good, but the in game model is off design. It reads less as relaxed and optimistic, which is the entire character, and instead reads as dopey.
You know the rules here people are NOT allowed to call venture ugly or unappealing shame on you!
I agree though, 3D model is weird to look at while the sprays and portraits look really cute and nice, but that goes for just about any character
Junkrat is dopey, but that is the character.
I just don’t think Dopey was the goal of Venture. Ironically I feel like Mauga got all of Venture’s alternative culture swagger.
Relaxed, tatoos, confident in themselves but not arrogant. Mauga ate that persona up when clearly that was venture’s goal.
Well one look at Mauga and you immediately think of that one Disney movie and Hawaii/Samoa. The VA nailed it as well. Venture doesn’t really have that “exaggerated swagger of a rock miner” and more of a hobo you’d see at a California gas station
I think the op just wanted venture more like the concept art was.
Some people on reddit even tried to make small changes to make the 3d model more similar.
The only problem I have with Venture’s model is their silhouette through walls looks a bit too similar to Zarya’s.
I’m an artist myself, but have the benefit of working in both 2d and 3d mediums (I have to do both for my indie game art) The smaller head and less pronounced chin, and upward tilted nose are there to create a juxtaposition between thier head and thier giant coat and gear. The big hair was supposed to emphasize that effect.
For lack of better words with that attched picture, the 2d art looks like they are ready to t take on the world. A swagger and confidence in themselves.
The 3d model unironically looks like they just farted, for lack of better words.
A lot of characters change from concept to model, that’s not new just look at juno or mercy concept art to see considerable difference in face or costume design.
Mercy has a very pointy chin.
Why are people assuming that Venture is a she and consequently requires a more “feminine” look?
Do we have the lore?
See, IMO this is less conpcet art and more in the final design approval stage. What really happened imo, is that the 2d conceptual and 3d teams are too seperate. Some of these small flourishes are not a concern to the more technical side of art.
Sorry English is not my first language I corrected it.
I don’t even think it’s about having a feminine look its just about looking more appealing, if venture looked like that edit there was have been way less hatred of the character.
