After playing a lot with this terrible character, I’m ready to call it as a failed design.
-Awful sound design: way too quiet on their actual movement including burrow, yet their obnoxious voice line are constant and seem particularly high in the mix for no reason. Do we really need to hear wHoOpSiE dAiSy blaring at us every ten seconds?
-Awful visual design: Someone said ‘wow they burrow into the ground, gotta get those earthly tones’ and as a result we have a dull dredge of a look, de-saturated yellow green and brown like a waste disposal site. Widow says it best… filthy.
-Awful characterization: If archetypes like Soldier or Doomfist could fit a children’s TV show, Venture belongs in one for toddlers with this cringeworthy gee shucks routine.
-Insane amount of CC: You can’t use abilities during their drill dash (try suzu as Kiriko for instance, it gets cancelled), they get CC on literally everything they do including primary. Nobody wants to get pushed around constantly. Camera control is yanked away and it feels bad even for the Venture.
-Bizarre burst fixation: Why on Earth did they decide to make a character that is just you burst down in a nanosecond or you die (unless you get your free escape back). This is terrible. Their range is if anything slightly too good, and even this m1 does too much damage for the aim requirement.
-Atrocious ult: I don’t need to explain why this ult (they get it every fight with that charge so more like another cooldown) is bad, just a free win in a brawl situation basically and for some reason with way too much range.
They also probably have too much mobility. I like Venture less after every game I play with them, and I just want to go back to last season at this point.

You know a character is bad when even blizzard themselves prefer use the BP as an ad on steam to promote the game rather than their new FREE hero.

It’d be misleading to put Venture on that picture because Venture isn’t part of the bundle. They’re a free character. You pay for the Ana and Rein skins, while also getting premium pass skins such as the Widow and Doom ones.

That is not the point.
The highlight of the season is supposedly the new hero but they would rather promote the BP instead.

I main Venture now. And I do agree they are a tad bit too strong.
CC, mobility, high burst, multippe combos and variations, good at frontling and flanking.
Other then the short range and super clunky ult they’re really strong when left unchecked.
Yet they are very weak to CC which many can force them out of their abilities or cancel them which is an 8 secone downtime.
Really wishing brig had at least a 0.05 stun on her shield bash so that she could disrupt ults and other abilities.
That way supports wouldn’t be as dependent on the dps and tank to help them win the 2v1 in the backline

You say that, but after reading your post and looking up OW2 on Steam, I’m greeted with a video that starts off with Venture.

I am talking about the splash screen ads that opens with steam. If you have it disabled you won’t see it.

How are they supposed to put Venture in the “expansions and content packs” sale advertisement section…when Venture is free
Complaining without even bothering to think about it LOL

The ultimate also does too much dmg too quickly imo, needs a fire rate nerf, or limited to 2 shockwaves per ult, not 4. Or just make it a line aoe, considering Thier whole kit is very hard to miss with. Also, mobility x vertical mobility x invuln in one cd is filthy XD
Imo!

I have to agree. I think that 3 of the last 4 heroes all have serious design issues. Lifeweaver, Mauga, and Venture are all really bad additions to the game. Even Illari, who I enjoy, has design flaws. The last well designed hero was Ramattra. This doesn’t give me hope for Space Ranger.

Just falsely advertise, duh. That’s what we want to encourage Blizzard to do, right? ![ ](https://d1mldsz5gr8kpv.cloudfront.net/en/overwatch/images/emoji/twitter/roll_eyes.png?v=12)
And i do not think ram was well designed.
Switching heroes(i do not know the real term for them) is a common moba thing and they barely pull it off with ram.
With the number of people playing Venture, will soon see Blizzard saying that the new hero was a Success

Speaking of sound design, has anyone been confusing Venture’s primary with Baptiste’s secondary (healing grenades)? I think the primary could sound a little louder or have more bass.
As for burrow being incredibly quiet, a lot of sound queues, not just Venture, have been hit or miss lately. Lately I’ve noticed some weird things like sometimes I hear Pharah jetpacking across the map, but other times she only 10m. above me and I can’t hear a thing. Same thing with Zen charging his volleys, even when he’s right around a corner, I still don’t hear the orb volley charging, so I peek thinking it’s safe. I think I must have either changed my audio setting on accident or the developers are experimenting with different mixes, but it’s worse than a few months ago, when I could consistently hear things.

Venture is on advertisements. Just not an ad for ultimate BP which would be misleading.

They are afraid that Venture in the ad would just make people play Paladins.

What do you think is a better counter?
Cree?, Sombra? or Pharah?
the funny thing i think is using their ult from behind the payload cart or from stairs / ramps
nobody expects it in arcade/QP and you can do a full team wipe from behind cover

All are good. I’d say Sombra, but that’s a double edged sword. You don’t pick Sombra for damage, you pick her for hack and EMP.
Cree can work wonders if you play ranges well and can hit basic shots, lord knows I’ve been shut down by too many already which is susprising. Yet the extra tankiness, better range, hinder nade, and a well time roll can all act to outppay Ventures.
Pharah is a good one, but you’ll be hunted by every enemy. While Venture remains vulnerable against a Pharah I don’t find Pharah too terrible to play into. Again, due to Venture’s ability to be highly mobile and has burst that can close that HP bar or at least really cripple a Pharah if they get a couple of hits on her.
If you really want to shut down a Venture Sombra is the way to go, but you’ll need to still find value affecting the rest of the opponent team at the same time, which is a hard thing to juggle. Because if your teammatrs are just…well uncoordinated or clueless, you’ll be left with not a whole lot to carry with.
